Another day spent pondering the riches of Moscow. Having recently travelled to a few FSU countries back to back, its worth illustrating yet again the misconception that you can impress girls in Moscow with money. I was sitting in the internet cafe a few hours ago and a fresh off the plane American was trying to impress upon the waitress how much money she could earn if he invited her back to the US. Maybe that was his chat up line I dont know, but I screwed up my face, shook my head and wondered.

Girls with degrees (most of the better dressed Moscow girls) in their early 20s typically make between 1500 and 2500 USD a month. One of my regular 30 year old pokes makes US$5000 a month working in her banking job. And these girls are paying minimal tax on that income, so its equivalent after tax to 1.5 times that in the west.

In Kiev, by contrast, a typical salary for a university educated girl in her early 20s is more like US$250 - $300. So if impressing a girl with your spending power is your aim, then dont waste your time in Moscow. The girls here have access to more Millionaires and Billionaires than any other city on earth.

In fact the GDP per capita of Moscow is around 10 times that of the remainder of Russia. Its around USD 20,000 per annum. Thats about the same as Australia, and more than New Zealand. Russia GDP is about $500B this year, and $200B comes from the 10 - 12 million people living in Moscow. The remaining 130 million people contribute just over $2000 per capita.

I can honestly say that I find it harder to impress chicks with money in Moscow than in London, and London is loaded.

If wooing girls with your wallet is your aim, head for the russian regions.... places like Yoshkar Ola, or Cheboksary where life is grim and incomes are grimmer. If you come to Moscow, you will inevitably end up at the tochkas every night (full of girls from the regions who have come to Moscow to tap the available wedge).

HWilli... The Sheraton is definitely not the most girl friendly place in Moscow... I suggest you consider switching to one of the Marriottts... Comparable pricing but very girl friendly.

OTOH, why don't you stay in an apartment? You have much more freedom and can come and go as you please. Most mongers to Moscow swear by apartments instead of hotels because of the price and privacy.

I have a multiple entry business visa, so in theory I could stay in Russia for 180 day increments.

Most of my stays in Moscow are in the Cosmos Hotel, which although far from the center, is close to the Metro, and is nestled in with some first class brothels, not to mention the working girls in the lobby.

A friend of mine that visited Russia about 5 years ago, went home, quit his job and moved to Moscow and now is in Spb. He promised people that if they visit Moscow or Spb for a week to ten days, that they'll be back in less than a year... in my case he was right... many times over!
