I go to NL a couple of times a year. I have not been there since January. So I was there a couple of weeks ago, and this is my obersvations. First I work weekends so I always go during the week. I find this much more relaxing and a lot less jerks. I always stay in NL most of the time at Fiesta Inn. I always like to bring company back with me this has never been a problem here, the taxi stops at the security gate and the guard comes out I usually just wave and he waves back.

On this trip I did not see the usual number tourist at BT or Downtown. Even for a weekday. I do agree that the quality of the women was down at the bars, but not as bad as I thought from the other posts. Alot of the door ladies were still ones from January. It appeared to me the girls at the bars were a little more agressive than normal, this maybe from the lack of tourist and trying to make the sell before you go to the competition.

I did find the door ladies were a little more uptight. First of all you had to beg for them to undress. Most did not want to do this even for a little extra incentive. Next I do not speak much Spanish, but I have never had a problem with finding a door lady to come to the hotel with me. This trip however was completely diffrent they wanted nothing to do with it. I ended up going to Papagayo's which I do not like to go to the bars because you have to pay the bar fine. Well I was completely turned down flat by one girl, but finally got another girl who was very nervous about it. All through the night one of the other girls called her on her cell about once an hour to check on her. What is the diffrence in attitude, I think it has more to do with the tourist who beat the young lady up this summer in BT more than what we are seeing on the news. I think the girls do not want to be put in a situtation that would put them at risk of being beaten. I guess I don't blame them.

Next while in NL this trip I never felt uncomfortable, once. I walked from my hotel to the grocery store, convience store, and to a couple restaurants at night and never once felt threaten.

If I was to offer any tips about staying in NL it would be these:

    1) You are in a Foreign Country you do not have the same rights as in the US get over it and change the way you act to avoid confrontation.

    2) Limit your alcohol intake keep your wits about you. This does not mean you can not relax have fun and enjoy a cocktail, just watch how much you drink.

    3) Don't dress to draw attention to you, leave the cowboy boots, air nikes, the pro-sports shirts, and the usa flag crap at home, your in a foriegn counrty not everybody like people from the US. Usually I just wear a plain T-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes.

    4) Have some extra cash stashed in your sock, shoe, or somewhere so in case you do get rolled you have some money to get back to the border/hotel.

    5) Always make the deal before getting in a Cab and make sure you understand it is in Dollars or Pescos. I never use pescos, everyone takes dollars and can make change. This has never been a problem.

    6) Find some useful spanish phrases you think you might use and have them on a sheet of paper and keep in your pocket.

    7) If you walk around BT or around town at all beaware of what people are doing around you, make eye contact with people you meet smile and say hello. Be aware of where you are if you have a bad feeling about something trust your instincts, and go back to where you last felt comfortable.

8.) Last these ladies have a hard enough life. Try to treat them with some decency, that is the least you can do.

Sounds to me like a critical situation in the making! 30 cops at McDonald and they don't serve donuts? Perhaps they were there because they wuz hungry

    BorderJumper,

It looks like you rather live in NL than just jump over the border.

You're absolutely right. If you don't look for trouble, most likely you'll be safe.
I'm staying in NL one - two weeks at the time and never had problems.

I'm sure that there is some "collateral" and innocent people getting killed. But 99.9% who are killed or kidnapped are involved in drugs.

There's one history that I know from the first hand. Bad cop who found himself connected to a wrong cartel was affraid of being killed. All his neighbors knew that he'll be killed. His wife moved out with children to Monterrey. One women living next block told me: " I hope they will kill him away from my home" He eventually got killed just at the front of her house.

I was really puzzled why he didn't run away. I was told that he was fired from work few weeks before his killing and stayed in NL, because was collecting unemployment money.

So far, I feel safer in NL than in certain areas of NY or Chicago.

I don't know what happened to Papagayo lately but on the last few visits down there I found the women quite disappointing. Large girls in their 30s. And then this one woman sat down at my table that had to be in her 50s.

The other place I'll frequent is 123. Me encanta Vanessa. Danash has the best women with the US-styled prices.

The cops have had a big presence in boystown but they don't seem to hassle the customers aside from checking cars that aren't taxis at the entrance.

Nuevo Laredo proper doesn't have the tourist business back at all. The cops are on patrol and seems quite safe. I don't know what the deal was but when I was in the taxi on the way to BT, there were about 10 police trucks and a bunch of cops in the McDonald's parking lot on Lopez de Lara.

    20 de Noviembre Holiday

    FYI

Was at the zone, the bars were all being shut down at 2 AM sharp and the zona was being closed due to 20 de Noviembre Holiday. I imagine all the bars will be closed all of the 20th??

    Door girls still at work.

Old news Joe! I remember when that article appeared and saw it on the other site when it was posted.

The actions of a few tarnish the reputation of the entire.force. This article was written during the hysteria of the "gang war" back in the summer. The centro business district lost business mainly because of the media reporting in the U.S. of the situation which caused people to cease coming to Nuevo Laredo.

Since then, it has been discovered that most of the Americans "kidnapped" were associated with the drug trade in some way or the other. Either punk ass kids coming over to make a score or others with relatives living in NL and involved with the trade and were lured over and kidnapped until their relativescomplied with whatever demands were made.

As recently as this week, I read a report in a U.S. paper where a Congressman was labeling NL "The New Baghdad"! Now how fucking ridiculous is that.

I guess, living there for the past 5 years and encountering no problems whatsoever makes me wither special or lucky or maybe a combination of the two.

To the great consternation of my wife, I have no problems greating the Municipal Police when I pass them or talking to the State or Federal Police if they come into OXXO or Soriana when I am there.

I still think it has a lot to do with attitude and demeanor. Who knows though

    Question for Borderjumper

Borderjumper, then why are the owners of bars and restaurants of the centro district going to the municipal presidency to complain about the municipal police, saying they were tired of the extorsions against American tourists, local clients and national visitors, because it was driving away tourism? They said the not just the bar and restaurant owners, but all of the first block of the city suffer from the outrageous actions of the police.
The extortions affect everyone in the downtown area, especially the foreign tourist, and the proof that it is the police - all those of the afternoon , night, and morning shifts go to the currency houses to change between 300 and 800 dollars to pesos. That is per night.
They enter our businesses and remove clients and acuse them of fabricated crimes. They have even resorted to stopping automobiles, nobody escapes.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
I took that from an article in the El Manana newspaper. It sounds to me that the local merchants don't even know what to do about it, so they are going to the municipal president to complain. Joe Driver
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below is copy of post from another group.

I added translations, not exact word for word, but the idea is intact.....people there are as tired, of us being hassled by the police, as we are.
I guess it was ok with them, until it starts hurting their business, now they are up in arms about it.

A group of more the 15 owners of the restaurants, bars, and night clubs went before the authorities to make their complaint against the police, saying that many clients have stayed away, in mass, from the centro businesses.

    800 DÓLARES POR PATRULLA
    $800 for each patrol officer.
Our clients no longer return to our businesses. We are being done in by little tourism and the economic movement.

    Funny thing is!

I keep seeing these reports and reading the anecdotes of people being robbed by the local Police here and that flies in the face of everything I have experienced living here for more than 5 years and coming here for more than 30.

Maybe in the past, who knows, and perhaps it was the attitude of the persons that caused the hassles. You know, if you act like a victim, you will be a victim and should you be looking for something that is out of the mainstream norm, it is possible you will get hassled.

Times are changing down here. We have a new slimmed down better paid Police force with a Chief in charge that has little tolerance for the corruption of the past. The NL Police's new missions seems to be protection of public buildings and patroling a limited area of the city. The Feds and State Officers still patrol the city as a whole and they are a totally professional group.

I had reason to go to the main Police building out on the west side of town a couple of weeks ago o the Transito Office for a copy of an accident report. A professional operation, everyone I spoke with was helpful and friendly and went to great lengths to research and pull a report that was over two years old. The charge for this and for the copies? Zilch, nada, zero! The officer refused any fee whatsoever and went so far as to apologize for his ack of English skills to my wife.

I am in agreement with ZENACTIVE's advice on reporting the Police. I would not tell them you plan to report them but make it obvious to them that is your intentions.

All patrol vehicles have their numbers painted on the side. Every one! Make note of it. Take out a pen and paper, or use your hand and pointedly write down the officers badge number and name from his name tag. Many times they see you doing this and a rapid change of attitude will occur. Especially if you have broke no laws. It has worked for me in the past in Juarez.

In NL, most of the hard core crooked cops are history. The new ones are ambitious and try to do the job right. Perhaps, if one is testing the waters so to speak, your actions will keep him on the straight and narrow

Ended up with an older (30ish) one in Marabu; great GFE w/DFK, BBBJ, and offer for barebacking
I loved Marabu years ago but I am not sure how good the place is at this time. I met a girl there, Erika, who must be 29 today... great body, nice face, not the best fucking technique but just to enjoy that curves were enough to send me high. She looks a little like Tyra Banks and I must say in body also... but the last thing I knew about her was a pregnancy. Does anyone know about this Marabu chica and how good or bad the place is today?

    Last Weeks Trip

    Hey guys,

Just wanted to state my opinion on here and see what kind of feedback I get.

I was in Nuevo Laredo Oct 29, and headed out to the local bars that are near the border. Montero is the name of one of them and there are two others right down the street from there. I have been going just to those border bars for the past years, maybe 2 years. All the trouble around the Mexico and being thrown in jail for something that I did not do was enough to keep me from straying to far from the border.

Anyways, I was down there (the local border bars) and I have to admit, there are some really good looking girls around that area. But it seemed to me that for every 1 girl there was atleast 3 guys. WTF, more then ussual!! So anyways, I am drinking and looking around and I got to thinking, "I have not visited BTs for some time, so maybe there is a bigger selection there and hotter looking girls there as well."

Guyz.. WTF is going on over there. I have been going to BTs since I was 15, and I am 28 now. In all the random times that I have been to BTs, I have always found a great selection of women. This was not the case this particular night. I was baffled, all the hot girls, or so it seemed, were at the border bars. Anywyas, I felt that it would have been a waste of my time to run back to the local border bars, and stuck around BTs for some action. The only remedy, drink till they look good, only draw back, I am not sure if the lay was good or not. Kinda defeats the purpose.

So my question to the locals that get to visit whenever they chose too. Is there some kind of trend going on over there, or did I possibly just catch BTs in a bad day?

There are time I wished I lived back in Laredo.. hmm. I think after I send this, I will drive back down there tonight. hmm.

    Herradura and Montera

BT is definitely preffered place to lay down in NL. Bars Herradura and Montera just at the border are definitely underestimated. When I started visiting NL my route was always straight to BT. Recently however I found a lot of fun in bars. (Maybe I'm getting older?)

Whatever it is, I have limited (4 - 5) number of girls that I'm constantly playing. It makes me comfortable when waiter/waitress remember that I'm drinking only Modelo (I'm suspicious about Corona, especially in Herradura - always open and instant headache after drinking)

OK, lets talk about major subject. Girls and service. At least minimum Spanish is a must. It's not that difficult if I can communicate. It took for me 3 years regular visits (once in two weeks) to speak a little. Girls are affraid to talk to you, they mostly don't speak English. But we are really don't care, since our business is just to get laid.

Last Friday I was with 22 - 24 years old petite Elisabeth (Beth). She asked $60, agreed on $40 and was paid $50. Since I met her a year ago, she gained few pounds, but is still young and attractive.

We went to hotel Monterrey (the only cheap decent hotel in area).
What is really nice about Elisabeth, is that she is really acting like a girlfriend.
We were playing for an hour on bed kissing, hugging and slowly undressing, before we started action. Sex was straight, she was affraid go doggy because she thought that I want anal. She got very hot and insisted to go without rubber. Well, I can't afford to think after: "what if I've got".

Overall it was nice experience. Total two and a half hour for $50. Good value.

  14. #216
    Yes Joe,

I know, and I don't mean to tell policeman that you're going to report him. What I want you to do to post it here or report to the police. Right now there is opportunity, because they are cleaning police department and police is being fired every day.

By all means, don't try to fight them. Pay your $50, but try to remember plates, numbers names and time.

Attitude "pay and forget" hurt us all.

NL is trying to stop it, but need our help.
Zenactive, if the police see you writing down their licence plate number, or looking at their badge, what's to keep them from putting you in their car, driving you out in the middle of nowhere, and then beating the shit out of you, and claiming you assaulted them first? It would be your word, vs their word. I wouldn't place any bets you would come out on top, in that situation. You might end of in jail, minus a few teeth, and charge with assaulting a police officer. Witnesses? Again, if they drive you out in the middle of nowhere, like they did me, and then rob you, like they did me, you would have no witnesses. I'll phrase it to you, like the crooked NL cops phrased it to me, when they robbed me. "You can give them $50, and they will drive you back to where they picked you up, and you will have no problems. If you don't give them $50, they will take you to jail, and you will have lots of problems." Now I wonder what they meant by ,"lots of problems"? I think they meant they were going to file a lot of false charges against me, if I didn't give them $50. It would have been my word, vs. theirs. Who do you think would have come out on top, had I taken them up on that? I doubt it would have been me. The NL police can fuck you over, bigtime, and they know it. It will be your word, vs. theirs. If they think you might report them, I don't want to think what they might do to you. Anything they want, and they know it. Your ass is theirs, if they think you're going to report them.
