I was robbed by Nuevo Laredo police about 6 years ago. I was walking down the sidewalk heading towards the Horseshoe Bar, when these Nuevo Laredo cops spotted me, a white gringo, walking down the sidewalk. They rounded the block, and drove up to me, and ordered me to get into their car. I did. They drove me out to the middle of nowhere, so that there would be no witnesses, and they told me to give them $50, or they would take me to jail, and that "I would have lots of problems." I gave these crooked Nuevo Laredo police bastards $50, and they drove me back to where they picked me up, and dropped me off. They were very relaxed about this. I could tell they had done this many times before. I view this as part of "paying your taxes" so to speak, when you go to Mex. I still go to Mex, but it's risky dealing with their crooked police bastards. It's just part of Mex. That's how I view it.

I added translations, not exact word for word, but the idea is intact.....people there are as tired, of us being hassled by the police, as we are.
I guess it was ok with them, until it starts hurting their business, now they are up in arms about it.

Los dueños de bares y restaurantes del centro, acudieron a presidencia municipal para quejarse contra los policías municipales de quienes se dijeron cansados, ya que con sus extorsiones ahuyentan al turismo estadounidenses y al cliente local, así como al paisano y al visitante nacional.
The owners of bars and restaurants of the centro district went to municipal presidency to complain about the municipal police, saying they were tired of the extorsions against American tourists, local clients and national visitors, because it was driving away tourism.
Un grupo de más de quince propietarios de restaurantes, bares, centros nocturnos y cantinas se presentaron ante el secretario particular del Alcalde, José Luis Moreno y el secretario del Ayuntamiento Eusebio Sanmiguel Salinas, para presentar su queja contra los preventivos.
Encabezados por sus directivos José Luis Ortiz Cárdenas y René Molano Moreno, manifestaron que de plano los clientes se han retirado en masa de los comercios del centro histórico.
A group of more the 15 owners of the restaurants, bars, and night clubs went before the authorities to make their complaint against the police, saying that many clients have stayed away, in mass, from the centro businesses.

"La clientela ya no quiere regresar a nuestros negocios. Están acabando con el poco turismo y el escaso movimiento económico", dijo Ortiz Cárdenas.
Molano Moreno comentó que no sólo son los dueños de bares y restaurantes, sino todos los ramos de la economía del primer cuadro de la Ciudad, los que resienten las tropelías de los policías.
"Extorsionan a todo el que anda en el centro, máxime al turista extranjero y la prueba de ello es que los policías -sobretodo los del turno de la tarde, noche y madrugada- acuden a diario a las casas de divisas a cambiar entre 300 y 800 dólares a pesos. Eso es por noche", aseguró Ortiz Cárdenas.
El secretario del Ayuntamiento envió a los quejosos con Omar Pimentel Zúñiga, director municipal de Seguridad Pública, para que le entregasen los informes y las denuncias.
"Entran a los negocios y sacan a los clientes y los esquilman, fabricándoles cualquier ilícito. Además se hacen pasar por polifiscales con los paisanos y hasta por agentes viales con los automovilistas. Nadie se les escapa", dijo René Molano vicepresidente de la Canaco.
Our clients no longer return to our businesses. We are being done in by little tourism and the economic movement.
They said the not just the bar and restaurant owners, but all of the first block of the city suffer from the outrageous actions of the police.
The extortions affect everyone in the downtown area, especially the foreign tourist, and the proof that it is the police - all those of the afternoon , night, and morning shifts go to the currency houses to change between 300 and 800 dollars to pesos. That is per night.
They enter our businesses and remove clients and acuse them of fabricated crimes. They have even resorted to stopping automobiles, nobody escapes.

Was there last night, curfew has been lifted. Prices are about the same $15-40 for door girls. The later you stay the cheaper the prices.

Just about as good as it ever was, close anyway....curfew is gone, BT is guarded by Federal Polica (not local crooks).

I tried calling the various massage services about 6 months ago, which are advertised in the El Manana. One was Playboy massage. I was told that the service was $100 per hour, anything goes. I was also told they could provide, "any age I wanted." I told them I wanted to make a video, and try to sell it to a distributor, and this request threw them for a loop, so to speak. They thought about it for awhile, and then came back and said I would have to pay $2500 per hour for that. Uhmmm, if any mongers here would like to pick up that tab for me, please let me know, and I can begin shooting immediately. $2500 per hour? Shit.
