I just concluded a small business trip to Bucaramanga. This city is called La Ciudad Bonita "The pretty City". I could say that it is a pretty and a relaxed city. It is like a smaller Medellin and a more cooler Barranquilla weather wise. I was on a business trip for three nights. This was not a mongering trip, therefore did not have much opportunity to explore and find chicas and can not comment much about P4P action. Also, a co-worker of mine was traveling with me and was not into this lifestyle and prevented me from doing my typical exploration. I could not get rid of him for most of the time as we were working together on the project that my company sent us. There is some information, however, that could be useful which gathered while I was there:

AIRPORT, ATM, AND TAXIES.

The airport in Bucaramanga is small. You can find ATMs there to get your money. I got a great exchange from the ATM. I used my capital one 360 Debit credit which charges no fee. Got 600,000 COP which came to be 192 USD, not bad. The yellow taxies are outside the terminal waiting for you. Those are not airport taxies, so there is a high risk of getting scammed or worse. I had no choice of taking the taxies because my flight got there late at night. I believe there are public buses that come to the airport but not late at night. There was no incident with the yellow taxie for me. The taxi cost me 32 k or about 10 USD for a 30 minutes ride to my hotel.

HOTEL AND TRANSPORTATION TERMINAL.

I booked at hotel Palmera Real located inside the main transportation terminal in Bucaramanga. The terminal have buses that go to most main cities of Colombia. The Hotel Palmera Real is also a short term motel. The terminal is pretty safe and notice a small police station inside the terminal as I walked inside. The Hotel Palmera Real turned to be a great affordable hotel. One bedroom with a very comfortable bed for 100 K or 33 USD for the night. It is 140 K for two people. I found out that with the 140 K rate you could bring a girl no charge. If you pay the 100 k single rate, they add 42 k if you bring a chica. The place is chica friendly. On hotel receptionist told me that you just have to be discreet or not to bring odvious street girls If you call a girl from a escort or mileroticos, she just have to check in the reception area and they would send her to your room. The Hotel also gave me of a number of a escort service to call that they know and is authorized to come and that customers use for girls to come to the hotel. I was not able to use it cause I was working most of the time. The hotel was excellent. For $33 USD, you can't beat that price. It has a Jacuzzy, Sauna and steam (bano turco) it is super clean, quiet place, the beds are great, the vibe is superb, there is a restaurant outside the Hotel and a small bar inside, and breakfast is included.

Zona Rosa.

The only negative I could think of the Hotel Palmera Real is no way near the Zona Rosa. If you want to be close to the Zona Rosa, you should book at the hotel Chicamocho http://www.hotelchicamocha.com/location.htm at Calle 34 and Cra 31 which is a block away from the Zona Rosa. The chicamocha charges 200-250 K or 65-80 USD via booking.com for one person. I was happy paying 30 USD at the Palmera Real, therefore did not make the switch. The Chicamocha is a famous landmark that most people know. Palmera real is a 20 minutes ride to the chicamocha and Zona Rosa and the taxies charge about 8 K-10 k for that ride. There are also public buses from the Palmera Real to the Zona Rosa for less than 2 K. I was only able to check the Zona Rosa on a small break from work. I noticed a few bars and discotecas all cosed because I there in the afternoon. The bars and discotecas were in the same area of the Hotel Chicamocha, or a block away. I cannot comment about the bars and discotecas because I did not go back at night time when they were opening.

WEATHER, CITY AND DELINCUENCY.

The weather is similar to Medellin, Spring like all year according to what the local people told me and also my three nights there were Spring like. It is a city located in the mountain with beautiful scenery all over, very pretty city, very clean, people are very nice and friendly. Some locals told me to watch my back because there is a lot of delincuency and told me to be careful with the taxies and the moto taxies. One Colombian local I met at the restaurant in the Hotel told me as we ate breakfast together told me that his car windows were broken and a briefcase with his legal documents and phone was taken from the car two days earlier. The items that were stolen from him were located in a black market and he was trying to negotiate paying a high amount to get the items back. So the local guy was pretty much getting rob twice. I had no incident of delincuency and felt pretty safe walking on my own during the day and night time in this city. Its a bi city with some neighborhood designed like in medellin but not as big as Medellin. It is not as modern as Medellin and not as big as Medellin. Some poor neighborhood have similar designed and populated houses / fabelas within the mountains like in Medellin and Rio. The women, I did not find them as pretty as Medellin, but youcan find some good lookers here and there among the local population.

P4 P ACTION, BARS AND MPS.

The places to get some action are way less and more difficult to find than Medellin and Barranquilla. Seems to be a extremely discreet city when it comes to P4P action. Even the MP places in Mileroticos don't advertise their addresses. A taxi driver told me that there was some action at night at the places located at the Zona Rosa. CONCLUSIONS.

Overall, I like this city and the people there. The city is a pretty city as they called La Ciudad Bonita. Bucaramange is not a mongering destination and with the limited MP places to look for and the limited Zona Rosa bars and discotecas, I don't think it will become a mongering destination. You also need Spanish in this City as most local don't speak English. The city has great weather just like Medellin and la Ciudad es bien bonita.

1. The Bucaramanga airport to the city itself. Is there a bus?

3. The park with the cable tram I think it is called Chicamocha. Is there a bus?

First time in Bucaramanga, but I know Colombia and speak Spanish. Went out during the day.

the best part of an overland trip from bogota to buca was the viewing of the countryside and chicamocha canyon with overnite stops in tunja and san gil. the zona rosa area by hotel chicamocha was absolutely dead at 8pm on a thursday nite, of the 6 places i looked into most were empty, only one place had any action with about 20 colombianos, the place was similar to passions in sosua d. r. in that the chicas were all inside a 'circle bar', with 2 dance poles, about 8 chicas with 2 pole dancing. i was there about 30 minutes and similar to passions as no clothes removed. my hotel was hotel principe cr 17 #37. 69, in centro 69, 000 cop, would be 120k plus elsewhere in colombia, very nice hotel, spotless, aircon, even fresh oj and cafe delivered to your room at 7am without asking. one morning while sitting at the desk in my room reading emails 2 feet away appears a guy washing my window in my 6th floor room, he is standing on an 18in wide ledge, i wonder how the hell he got there, i go out into the hallway and the next room door is open, he had exited the window in that room as was casually walking along this narrow ledge washing all the windows. upon returning to hotel from zona rosa i could hear music nearby so i walked 100 m and on the 2nd floor was 2 ft wide you-shaped bar, about 4 ft hi, taking up the whole room, [30ft x 40ft] about 5 chicas were 'inside'. the place was classy looking. there were high bar stools around the bar, the chicas would approach you to take your beer order. i talked to a chica and asked when the chicas danced as about 5 where just walking around inside the circle. the deal is you pay 30000cop for her dance on the bar in front of you. i saw about 10 minutes of one dance and she still had all her clothes on when i left. she said no sex onsite. i told her i could hardly wait to get back to medellin. she seemed surprised when i told her for 30k i get 30 minutes of fun in mde. the next day decided to check out the casa situation, most were like in the santa fe area in bogota, in that the chicas hang around a 'lobby' in the front part of the hotel, so they are not actually on the sidewalk but damn close, the only available ones are in the 'lobby', lots of 3 to 5's. these places are rep001tered around the centro area, not clustered in serveral blocks like in santa fe. after a several taxis trips with different guys and having them asking other cabbies about casas, i finally found one similar to the mde ones. it is 'modelos club' ca14 #24. 70. 6454948 their card says 24 hours, except sunday 10. 00am. at 2pm about 5 chicas picked one about a 7, father was venezuelan, mother colombian, . paid for 30 min and extended to another 30. very enjoyable time. i forgot the price, but about 40% over mde centro prices.

i found my notes. 70k for 30min, beer 5k, but that chica was looks 7, attitude 9, sex 8, and i was lonely and missing my mde chica, so there!

Good day. I plan on going from Bogota to Bucaramanga overland in May. I have read some reports by Cyberdas with lots of info from his Aug 2010 visit also some 2009 reports on the 'Buca' site. Has anyone any more update to date info on casas in Buca, San Gil area? I will be telling my Medellin novia the reason I am going to the Buca area is to ride the cable car across the Rio Chicamocha Canyon.

Hello. I'm new to the Forum. I've been reading everybody's ideas and they seem complete and well rounded. I'd like to add a couple of things for the new mongers that may be going to Bucaramanga anytime soon. I've been there twice this year (once in March and then in May).

Restaurants:

There are a few places open 24 hours / day / 365. They're local favorites so any taxi driver will know how to get there even without an address and I believe you can get liquor there after 2am (Colombian quasi law-double standard doesn't want liquor sold after 2am).

TONY's is located right across the street from the local market El Guarin (Calle 33 / Carrerra 33). You can't get quality food, above average portions, good service anytime of the day, and it gets busy. Prices are above average for Colombians but not for Westerners ($20-40). The deals that all Bumangueses know and you should too are the Breakfast Plates-If you haven't eaten in the whole day you might finish their Breakfast Plate Special (Caldo with Egg, Arepa, Carne Asada, Yuca). They also sell it by the half. I've never ordered the complete plate, people would think you're being a glutton. Trust me, the portion you get just from the half breakfast is bigger or at least the same than anything Sizzler could offer in terms of the size of the steak. Outdoor feel, safe area, right down the road from the Zona Rosa, Hotel Chicamocha, across the street from Chiflas.

SENORA BUCARAMANGA is a mirror image of Tony's. Open 24/7/365. Sells / should sell liquor after 2am. Has the same breakfast deal combos. The address is Cra 27 # Avenida La Quebradaseca. Across the street is a long time establishment called EL MESON DE LOS BUCAROS. Nice place, open outdoor feel, the bar is basically a big circle with an upstairs. I don't know why anybody would want to sit upstairs when you can enjoy the cool breeze and see all the crazy commotion in your little gated circle establishment; unless you want to hide because your doing something naughty with somebody's wife. Hahaha. Great place to take anybody (date / gf / GFE / breezy) and put down some cold ones or a bottle of anything. Prices are within reason, taxis are so easy to get in Bucaramanga at any hour. No pros there, just a good place thats been for more than 20 years, just like Tony, Senora Bucaramanga.

CHIFLAS is a notch higher than both Tony and Senora Bucaramanga but they're not open 24/7/365 and IMHO you can't get pretty much the same stuff at either one of these establishments except one or two entrees. She'll be more impressed though at Chiflas, and I think there's also one in Medellin.

LA FONDA PAISA is way too expensive for locals, and everybody says they're just overrated. Right down the block from the Hotel Chicamocha on the same street as Tony is a restaurant called Changua why Arepa, this place is comparable to La Fonda Paisa.

DON LUIGIS is the place to go (located like a block away from El Parque San Pio going away from Cabecera on the highest Carrera (maybe Cra 35/36) , a must if you want a quality COLOMBIAN BURGER with all the trimmings and fries (10000 COP). The thing about burgers in Bucaramanga compared to the US and the rest of Colombia is that they come standard with arepa and PINEAPPLE SAUCE. You can't get that kind of quality in a non existent sauce in the US, pineapples are way too expensive and way too dry. That sauce changes the dynamic of the american burger since it makes it more sweet / sour because they also throw in Tartar Sauce, and QUAIL egg on top, interesting huh. My recommendation is to bring a poor Colombian there, I've done it, its pretty much "PANTIES IN HAND" my friends.

They're use to be a place when I was in High School there that sold burgers that included Salsa de Mora (Blackberry). Out of this world burger. Stuff you just can't get anywhere but there. It use to be called MAO PAO, until it got shut down, some mafia / paraco crap from the owner, always the same story.

HAMBURGUESAS AL CARBON. Located on the perimeter of the Club Union in Cabecera. A must as well if you want high end quality end burgers cooked with that flame broiled taste. Half a block down from the Cra 33. Everybody know where Club Union is. (15000 COP)

LOS TRES ELEFANTES. The three elephants is a major spot on Calle 56 Cra 27. They've been around for 20 years. The whole family is big like the title implies. A low key spot where the Double Carne Burger is crackin year round. Theyre open late. 1am / 2am. Good Service, Quality Burger (10000 COP). The lines for this place at one time were 20 deep, I've never seen anywhere put so much sauce on a burger in my life than this one. A must for locals if you're in the area and you want to keep it low key and reasonably cheap.

When I was there in March, I saw a few peculiar things going on in various bars. For starters, Colombia doesn't have Regulation E like in the United States, so miscellaneous charges that end up in your month end financial statement can get real complicated because the credit card companies will just say its on you, or your responsibility. It just doesn't get instantly reversed and investigated like in the States, so please be aware of how serious and complicated it can be to get any double charges on credit charges for locals there. So, I saw at several bars when someone is paying the bill by credit card, because so many places just don't take them unless its more high end, they actually bring the machine to the table and you watch them finalize the transaction and sign the final bill right there. U can't JUST LEAVE YOUR CREDIT CARD ON THE BAR AND GO TAKE A * IN THE BATHROOM, U HAVE TO WATCH THE TRANSACTION FROM START TO END. Someone may try to copy the numbers at the bar, and use it later, too many possibilities. It's funny because in Colombia when you use your credit card, their system will ask you how many payments. We don't have that here so the answer should always be ONE. When drinking with whomever, you must pay attention to the WAITERS discreetly, they sometimes like to forget to bring your change back when paying your bill. Trust me, they are paying attention to you, and they are monitoring your level of sobriety. For example, I was drinking with 2 breezies (California term for honeys) at this bar located in the Parque de las Palmas (PARK FULL OF TALL PALM TREES) at the establishment called SaxOp I think. They sometimes have live bands, like rock en espanol, you can see NBA games, the tables have little lit candles to set the mood. Nice, but anyways, we order a liter of Bacardi (76000 COP) , its real, not some knockoff, the waiter will show you the bottle before he opens it up, the problem is, when we ordered the second bottle, we all might've noticed that the cover might've been a different color. Hence the bait and switch move since we had already been drinking and were already starting to buzz and the waiter knows it. It was too late to say something since he had already opened it. SO BEWARE. ITS NOT JUST AT HIGH END JOINTS, its everywhere. I've heard of places where they will serve you a beer filled from the bottoms of all the other bottles that were consumed that day. NASTY and you can taste it instantly. To avoid this ALWAYS ask for the bottle and the glass, not just the glass unless its soda. Duh.

A word on the two high end spots.

ZONA ROSA.

STOP, cll 32 why 31-101 is cheaper than L'champagne, cll 32 why 32-80L Period. Champagne is the most expensive that I've seen. I haven't been to the Barra Dance Rubor in Cabecera so I couldn't say but UNIRII says that you can still negotiate something afterwards so it might be worth a try.

Comparing prices on bottles on liters from SaxOp a bar at the Parque de las Palmas (76000 COP) , STOP (110000) , Champagne (around 140. 150000 COP) but that includes the company and those are secure, doorman and in the Zona Rosa. The company is what makes it worthwhile, the bottle includes the girl, so I always had a LEECH that would tag along and get in on the action on my expense. One shot in STOP is 100000 COP. In Colombia from what I've seen use can always get BBBJ. They just don't care like in the US, they don't seem to be so preoccupied with STDs and HIV or whatever. Don Faustino, the owner of STOP, short middle aged dark guy will change dollars inside there at a small discount, I know I've done it. Let me tell you the girls eyes will lighten up like Las Vegas if they even see anything green come out of your pocket. You just can't get that kind of messing around (Kissing, Grabbing, Rubbing, Dancing) in the States. They are all trying to entice you to * them. It is full service so you can tax in the back room on the floor. If you want to take them out of the establishment, they charge you an extra 100000 COP and they're yours as long as you want them. Trust me, the average Colombian Cat doesn't have your bankroll, not even close so you're calling all of the shots PERIOD, you're KING!

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE of the ULTIMATE GOTCHA in those spots. Since the girls get a commission on every bottle the customer / client consumes (10000 COP) , I know a girl was breaking it all down to me after we started getting more comfortable as the days went by, you have to be aware of them dumping the drink on the floor in the corner when you're not looking. So when you buy a bottle / liter of anything, I recommend finishing the whole bottle with her before you go to the bathroom, because they will try to dump their drink so the bottle goes faster. I know from personal experience. The owner I know seems to be OK to gringos, shitty to the girls, I've seen him making out with girls in the table, having orgies, gangbangs in his house, has been known to not pay the girls their dues, so he can be another guy taking advantage of a tough situation.

Champagne, as I've said, is more expensive, the girls look better and do sport the little playboy outfits with the bunny ears. It use to be called El Porton 33 back in the 90s. Everything is more expensive, they do have an upstairs so you can get more cozy with them, more private. I seen two girls sitting on a drunk guys lap one time a few years ago, he became a mark and he was local. I SEEN her pickpocketing him right there at the spot. She was taking out the money from his shirt pocket. I couldn't believe it, I lost respect for that place when I saw that. But as the saying goes, a working girl is a working girl is a working girl!

One time I was mongrelling in a spot off the main strip on the Cra 33 where the Mariachis hang out, by Calle 38. It was a place called Crazy Horse (Caballo Loco). I met a girl there that said to me one day,"If you're down to pimp me in the United States, and bring my daughter, I'm down, I'm in". I couldn't believe it, I was in shock, she looked good too, the finest one in that place, Llanera. She even suggested trading sex for English Lessons. It never happened but still, I know she was somewhat serious, I had been seeing her for awhile. Hence, my fellow mongrels, you have to call the shots all the time, casual or serious and everything in between. Because we got the money, and the locals mostly don't, and the accents stand out, and trust me my Spanish is damn good, but I still have one, and when they hear it, everybody starts paying attention and listening in. We are the marks, everybody wants our money, and everything thinks we have millions. And more importantly, most everybody wants to come to the US and will do just about anything. I think if I tried hard enough, and I'm no Bradd Pitt by any means, you could get people to even kill someone for you to get a VISA.

Does anybody know what's the deal with the online prepago websites in Bucaramanga? Has anybody used any and if so, which ones, and how did it go?
