Let me clarify on the implications of running an illegal business in Thailand. All this is fine and dandy if the customer goes home happy. However if someone is unsatisfied with the services or feels he/she is cheated in anyway, all he/she needs to do is :-

1) report to the police
2) print out relavant information as proof
3) gather witnesses to support his/her report

If all you want is to use the forum as a guide, then it is perfectly fine, but once money and payment comes into the picture, it turns into an illegal act which can get everyone involved unto unnecessary trouble. I'm sure those of you who are legally skilled can explain better.

I don't want to get involved in this further, but I don't get your points. Of course there are some legal restrictions in Thailand, but this is not really your problem, isn't it?

We are talking about this forum here, and there are other 'inofficial' tourist guides in other countries, which have their own threads. Forum members know, what services they can expect, and what they have to pay. Payments are done in cash, nobody knows about it - and who are we to judge about that?

I can say for my person: If I go to Hat Yai next time I will send a PM to TV and ask him to show me around. He will spent time for me, so I will clarify the fees he expects before I hire him. That is a totally normal procedure. And - I will not contact the Thai authorities, and I will not check his work permit. Why should I ?

That's what we Thailand travelers should be interested in. An experienced guy in that region can save me a lot of time, and help me to have more interesting experiences.

1) TV is a not a Thai citizen or PR, nor has he got any working permit. He is what his nick says, a thai visitor.
2) Prostitution and pimping, which is TV's main income earner, is illegal in Thailand. So it is impossible to get a work permit as a pimp.
3) Any confirmation or proof that TV is running an illegal business in Thailand will make him a target for authorities to deport and blacklist him out of Thailand.

I think the discussion is somehow in a dead end, and I cannot discover any new arguments.

To get personal, discuss braincell quantities and IQs does not help so much, and it is quite ugly to read for non-insiders like me. But far more important: this way of discussing the issues does not strengthen the arguments, it only shows that obviously some arguments are so weak that personal attacks are necessary to cover that up - AND THIS NEVER WORKS.

I did the same thing for my marketing activities for Livingstone's Lodge in Bangkok, and I also charge room rates to my guests - of course, we are running businesses here. Jackson is open for those businesses, if they are close to the purpose of his forum, and I don't see any reason, why TVs business is not worth an own thread in the Thailand forum.

I would really enjoy an official post from TV in which he explains how he earns money with his activities in the south, and what services he delivers. With this kind of honesty everybody is free to decide whether he wants to use TVs services or not.

And all others, who criticise him: Do it with arguments and not with personal attacks.
