The First Amendment sets out only what the government can and can not due regarding speech. But the Supremes declared that money equals speech. The founding father slave owners would have agreed, but didn't need to include it at the time, since only white property owners were allowed to vote. Slaves and women were chattel, their property.

I want to be able to own stuff (and remain rich), but I also want to have an FDA to inspect the meat, an FAA to keep airplanes from crashing, the CDC to keep Ebola in Africa, and the FBI (to find the guy who shit on the rug in the Capitol on January 6 and put him in prison). I want Interstate highways, clean water, public sewers, public schools -- and public health. That's what a democratic, market socialists want. Libertarians and unfettered capitalists want private schools, private gated communities and private sewers.

However (sigh), I live in Berkeley (which is far kookier than you can imagine) and I have learned to keep silent. You are right, many Democrats (particularly here) are weak minded to the point of insanity. They do nothing about the young blacks who use any protest as an excuse to loot, the homeless who shit on the sidewalks, or even the Canada geese (which, like the hordes of migrant people have moved here permanently) that tear up the grass in the Parks. They are weak, weak, weak.

Yes, people still want to come to the US, and I'm in favor (somewhat) of immigration. I want Thai restaurants, Russian programmers, and Brazilian swim suit models. But as long as people want to come here, we should decide how many and who we want to let it. We don't need anymore 75 year old grandmothers or illiterate lettuce pickers or car theives. We should want and welcome the Sergey Brins and Gisele bendchens. I don't particularly care for Americans (or white people) and I don't want to "make America great again". I just want to make it great for me. I want to drink water out of the faucet, leave my front door unlocked, walk down the street to Peet's without worrying about getting robbed by a hoodlum or stepping in some human shit. I want to live in an educated, organized, law abiding society -- believe me, these are socialist values.
