Chip, there isn't even one significant or meaningful legislation or result proposed by, fought for and passed by Repubs when they controlled the White House, House and Senate since the inception of the Repub Party. Ever. Unless you count the crap they got done in the mid 1920's that resulted in their Great Repub Crash and Great Repub Depression that hit in 1929. That is the only significant result of an All Repub Control of the Federal Government that can be cited in history. Chip Roy's problem is that he believes they should have clawed back more. Fair enough, but $1.5 trillion is quite an accomplishment considering Democrats control the Senate and the Presidency.

I was watching CNBC last week, and Jared Bernstein, the chairman of President Biden's Council of Economic Advisors was expounding on the accomplishments of the President. Chief among them was saving $1 trillion through passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023! This is the money that the Republicans clawed back! In other words, Biden's economic advisor is taking credit for something that got passed only because Republicans threatened not to increase the debt limit. Democrats were shouting Armageddon and now they're taking credit for the legislation! Unbelievable!

Anyway, Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama might have been crappy ass presidents, if Republicans hadn't controlled the House during their second terms, and played a similar role to House Republicans this year. Instead, Clinton will go down in history as a very good president, having balanced the budget, passed welfare reform, promoted free trade, and cut the capital gains tax, all thanks to Republicans. Maybe House Republicans will also help President Biden preserve his legacy, after two years of crappy ass results with one party rule.

With only 21 bills making it into law halfway into November, the 118th Congress, controlled by Republicans in the House and Democrats in the Senate, is on the most sluggish pace to make law since the Congress that met during 1931 and 1932.

Back then, Herbert Hoover was president, the Great Depression had started and talking movies were still new.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), part of a group in the House that has stopped several spending bills from advancing to the Senate, saw his frustration boil over on the House floor Wednesday.

"One thing. I want my Republican colleagues to give me one thing one! that I can go campaign on and say we did, he said. Anybody sitting in the complex, if you want to come down to the floor and come explain to me, one meaningful, significant thing the Republican majority has done.

Hey, maybe the growing crime rates all through the Repub Nixon / Ford years and into the Carter years would have declined dramatically and steadily if only Joe Biden had been a more seasoned, mature, knowlegable, experienced and influential Senator in those years as he was by 1994 and was as a VP under Obama and is now as POTUS. At least those rates were on the decline in Carter's fourth year in office and that decline is what Reagan inherited from him in 1981. They sure didn't go anywhere but sideways through 12 years of Reagan and Bush1. The serious decline began and continued only after Clinton, Biden and the Dem Congress legislated, repeat, legislated, repeat, LEGISLATED a policy and followed that up with proper stewardship of the details that produced that result. Which is commonly referred to as "work" by elected officials. And that is anathema to Repubs, of course.

Seriously, have you all this time really thought it was all about the "magic" of being a Dem that produced those historic positive results and some "witch's curse" in being a Repub that produced their horrific results? LOL. Clearly, my work is not nearly over.

This is just political posturing on the part of Biden. The public doesn't approve of his handling of the economy, so he wants to put the blame on greedy corporations. Fortunately the adults in the house, like Janet Yellen and Jared Bernstein, won't let him do anything stupid, like impose price controls or excess profits taxes.

Price controls have been imposed since time of the ancient Greeks and they don't work out particularly well, as Richard Nixon, Hugo Chavez and others have discovered. When you place a price ceiling on goods and keep prices artificially low, demand is increased to the point where supply can't keep up, leading to shortages.

What would happen if we had an excess profits tax on energy, as recommended by one of your articles? Well, the price of oil would be over $100 a barrel and gasoline over $4. 00 a gallon. The reason they're not right now is because USA Oil production is at an all time high, 13.2 million barrels a day, counterbalancing attempts of OPEC and Russia to run up prices by cutting supply. And natural gas and electricity prices would be much higher as well. Right now, the only gas producers who are making money are the ones with oil wells. You can't make money drilling gas wells. If you take all the profits from the oil and gas companies when times are good, they won't, or for that matter can't invest in maintaining and growing production.

In the USA, we have one of the most competitive markets in the world for goods and services. Yes prices for some things are higher because of the strength of the dollar. But our per capita purchasing power is second to none, because of competition. As long as we maintain competition by, for example, enforcing the antitrust laws and not caving to crony capitalism, we'll stay in good shape.
Yep. Wallgreens' management got busted on that BS by its own executive, its own data and police data:

    Walgreens backpedals on theft concerns.
    Jan. 9, 2023

    https://www.axios.com/local/san-fran...edals-on-theft

Walgreens may have overblown concerns about retail theft at its stores, an executive said on a recent earnings call.

What's happening: "Maybe we cried too much last year," the pharmacy chain's chief financial officer, James Kehoe, said on last Thursday's call with investors.

Kehoe noted the shrink rate inventory lost due to theft, fraud or damage decreased from over 3% a year ago to about 2.5% in the second half of 2022, Insider reports.

Flashback: In October 2021, Walgreens announced it was closing five San Francisco stores due to "organized retail crime" in the city.

The following month, San Francisco Police Department data showed the five stores set to close had fewer than an average of two reported shoplifting incidents a month since 2018.
Yes, but: Not all crimes are reported to authorities, especially if they are minor.

Why it matters: The Walgreens announcement was a key rallying point for San Franciscans who successfully pushed for the recall of then-District Attorney Chesa Boudin.

The recent statements could also show that Walgreens' closures were more tied to a shifting retail industry and efforts to cut costs, which Bloomberg reported years ago.

    The Biden Economic Boom continues...

    • 11 months positive job gains in a row
    • better/stronger than expected November 2023 unemployment and job numbers. {ie. 19,000 more job created than expected}
    • the lowest in 50 years as the US payrolls rise 199,000; jobless rate drops to 3.7%
    • Unemployment rate the lowest since 1969
14 million more jobs created since Biden Took office, than the 6 million for the same period for Trump

Now, I realize those reports are all about statistics. But shouldn't someone mention that fact to the numbskulls cheering Numbskull King Trump's big pronouncement that he and only he can see to it that the USA will finally start drilling and producing a few barrels of oil for a change?
Thankfully, Biden abandoned his campaign promise to stop drilling on Federal onshore and offshore oil and gas leases, and otherwise kneecap the domestic oil and gas industry, when he realized that would hurt his prospects for re-election.

Obama may have been a self-righteous SOB from time to time, but at least he realized from the get go that domestic oil and gas production was good for America.

Do you think we'd have record production if we'd imposed an excess profits tax on oil as recommended by the Institute For Public Policy Research and Common Wealth? See your CNBC link below.
