My plan was to fly in mid July but after checking airfares I'm now looking at Sep/Oct timeframe (40% saving; $1500 versus $900 round trip LUX to MNL Jul versus Sep). Any tricks on where to find the best airfares? I've been using the various online reservation search engines and websites and it seems like I'm finding the lowest fairs (but who knows I haven't traveled for 20 years or so and hunting airfare is new to me; maybe I'm missing something?). I notice some websites promote a very low fare LUX to MNL with no ability to check online details. But when you call their toll free number they quickly clarify the cost of the flight for the date searched for on their website is actually much higher then the teaser rate they showed (of course it wasn't a real search engine but you don't know that at first if you're a newbie like me). These types of websites have the highest prices relative to Expedia or Orbitz. Also I noticed the number of hours between departure and final destination arrival can vary significantly for any given round trip airfare price when working through the raw data available on Expedia. Now I see what a good travel agent does to consider all the possibilities to prepare the best possible itinerary for a customer. I'll stick to using Expedia unless someone has a better idea. I'm guessing that if I book now for Sep/Oct time frame I'll get the best flight combinations (to minimize travel time) at the best price since the best combinations surely sell-out first. Am I getting the hang of this or someone has a "go-to" travel agent who always works miracles? Or do any of the foreign airlines provide online booking with specials not carried on Expedia? TIA for any comments or help.

P.S. This post might be helpful to any lurkers out there planning their first trip. Which has me wondering if I should be posting this on a thread other than "Chat Rooms and Pen Pals)? I'm as new to ISG as I am international travel and specifically the Philippines. Seems natural to post here since everyone has been so friendly and helpful. Imagine it makes sense to get hotel near the manila airport since I'll be returning to Manila for my return flight to LAX after visiting Cebu and Davao?

The girls will aggressively tempt you into jumping quickly into some type of emotional commitments. That will be one of your biggest challenges, in my view: remaining casual enough to play the field while you are there. Just tell yourself, over and over, that you are not going to make any commitments or reach any grand conclusions during your trip. Leave those for a couple months following your trip - after you've had a chance to clear your head and put the trip in perspective.

Houz—I agree completely. Chatting online with girls they can be equally aggressive in becoming my one and only serious gf. In fact, I routinely say to girls online that there is no way I can honestly become serious (with them online) without meeting in person first; and of course they become very offended because I suspect they don't have very little experience with internet dating or know how different the chemistry can be in person. For those girls who do not lose interest in me after I say that, I also point out that we would have to continue to get acquainted online after I return home to really know if marriage together would really be the right decision for me. BTW I am not even necessarily going to find and marry a foreign bride but I am open to the possibility when I look at the available women to date in the states. The best rule for decision making I have ever come across goes something like this: the amount of time required to make a "good" decision should be proportionate to how easily that decision can be reversed or undone. Since I pretty much live by this rule I would not make any hasty decisions regarding marriage. Not to mention the additional complications of integrating a foreign culture into my culture. With a prenup agreement you could view marrying someone so much younger as a 10-year proposition (or longer so long as it's still working for her). My suspicion is that as she becomes Americanized (and I become a very old person relative to her) she is the one who will want to move on to greener pastures first. For this to make sense I should also point out that I don't want any children (this is a puzzling concept to them especially since I currently have no children). I've found the easiest way to explain this is to simply say my sperm are defective; since they seem to believe that I would really be happier if we had children despite my desire not to. To my surprise about 1/2 say this is not a problem if it is God's will and that a good loving relationship would be enough. GL's comment that foreign guys are judged by a different set of standards is clearly at play here.

I think it is a mistake to regard the Phili girl's acceptance of older men as a "cultural preference" though this is certainly a fantasy that many older men who come here like to have. If you ask a 19 year old Pinay whether she would be interested in a 40 year old Pinoy guy, she will be incredulous (unless of course there is a huge difference in economic position.). What's really going on is that foreign guys are judged by different standards. Whereas her friends and family would be aghast about the idea of her dating a 40 year old Pinoy they can accept that she is going out with a 60 year old foreign guy without question (unless she comes from an upmarket background in which case the acceptable age gap is lowered). So visa, money, treats, staying at decent hotels, going on trips, are all a big part of it, combined with generally better attitudes and in some cases more heallthy and fit physiques (for a given age). If the benefits of western healthcare are not outweighed by the problems of a western diet.

I'm not sayiung that these girls can't have genuine afection and love for older guys, but let'; s not kid ourselves that these are islands on which young females have a mysterious cultural preference for older guys.

On the taller girl's front, unless you develop a preference for ladyboys, the best advice may be to just get over it. There is no geographic enclave of taller pinays. Girls from richer families will on average be taller, but are in general more difficult to find/attract too. GL—I appreciate being educated by members here who have been there and know first-hand about the culture. Thank you for taking the time to point this out to me and others who may not know better (because I obviously had a different idea in my head). My misperception comes from recently watching an online video published by a wellknown Tour Company (ForeignAffair and its affiliate LoveMe) intended for an audience of American men interesting in finding Asian brides. To their credit they do point out that most relationships do better with closer ages and that success becomes very difficult with any more than a 20 year age difference; consistent with what I had read 20 years early based on statistical marriage data. But aside from pointing out the obvious statistics they're doing a great disservice.

I'M making a note on Qingdao because of your comment. This is the similar idea that there could be a region with a certain gene-pool that grows taller women. I have noticed looking on DIA and CB that China dolls are generally much taller than Philippine women. As I get deeper into this process of looking closely at the women from different Asian cultures I'm starting to develop a preference for Chinese women (physical appearance) more so than Philippine. That preference is coming from the height difference but also from their observing facial characteristics. Philippine women have very wide noses that I don't find attractive relative to their Chinese counterparts (fortunately there are exceptions). I've noticed Chinese women more generally want men within 10 years their age (of course there are exceptions here too) where Philippine women prefer (or tolerate) much older mates. No doubt my quest will require a trip to China sooner than later.

You have the right attitude in that you are just here to relax, have a look around and see what you can find. The best opportunities will pop up when you least expect it.

There is no area in the PI where women are taller or have bigger boobs. A tall filipina is a 5ft 6 ins one, and who then wears high heels. It is very hit or miss on the dating sites too, as many women just guess on their heights and have no idea of their real height. (I met a woman who said she was 5ft5ins and turned out to be barely 5ft. She just guessed her size).

In all seriousness, if you really do want tall, full-bodied women then you should take a trip to Mongolia. I have just returned from there and the women are absolutely stunning. Tall, model-like, beautifully dressed, full bodied, and horny as hell too LOL.

Yup. and I use that particular search feature frequently to find tall girls within a particular city; all that's missing is the option to only show users currently online. DIA also provides a search showing all online women but just doesn't let me combine with location and height.
