For the 2-week warrior especially, GC and other remit-type services are rarely needed or wanted. The longer you live here, with multiple girls, GC is probably THE country standard app now for transferring money, pinoy to pinoy. Taxi drivers have started using it to receive fare. Just yesterday riding in a tryke with some lady, she tried to hand the driver a p500 note for a p20 fare. He balked. She didn't have anything smaller. Off the top of my head I asked her to ask him if he'd accept a GC payment. He agreed and that's how she paid. Almost all stores accept it now, as do many sari-sari's (they might add a convenience fee). GC can get you out of a jam if you only have large notes on you for a small item.

Who would bother going to Cebuana or LBC to remit money to family on another island, when they can send from their GC account directly to a family member elsewhere, instantly? GC is also great if you want to taxi a girl to you from wherever-the-eff-she-is, as Grab has a p79 fee for Manila. GC is also accepted by Lazada / Shopee, while many foreign debit and credit cards are not.

Most do not have bank accounts, PayPal accounts or GCash accounts. I've met girls who have jobs, but only possess an employer ID and no official ID. I've met college girls with college ID, but no official ID. When asked, the answer is always "I will get it next month".

The requests for money only start after the Filipina has taken the monger to another chat platform. If a request for help is turned down, the Filipina will terminate the conversation. There is no need to delete or block the girl. If a monger actually lands at NAIA, he is free to contact the girl again and invite her for a root. All would have been forgotten, and if she needs urgent cash, the chances of meeting are good.

GC. I had assumed everyone in Phils had a GC account. But discovered months ago that some girls don't yet have one. Using GC means you must 'Verify' your account, by allowing the app to take your picture (a selfie), a picture of your valid ID (GC only accepts certain valid ID's), a selfie of you holding your valid ID next to your face, and possibly also a picture of your SIM card (your GC account can only be used with 1 phone number), and also possibly a selfie of you holding your SIM card next to your face. Usually the process goes smoothly, but you can't send money to anyone until you Verify.

Also if you Verify and then try sending money to another GC account that has not been verified, you get a warning msg from GC: "You are trying to send money to an Unverified GC account. Are you SURE you want to do that?

GC can be great, and also a PITA.

3) Your girl doesn't have an ID

Many girls either have only a BC or Brgy ID, and not a valid ID. The ID system could / should get fixed one day when they roll out the National ID (supposedly next year). You can sign up for the National ID now (they just aren't available for delivery yet).

Knowing this, the girl might inflate (double) the amount she requests from you, to receive enough money to buy what she needs. She is literally at the mercy of the neighbor or fam member that you send money to.

I wonder if that's why so many ask for load? Maybe that escapes the text search bots and they can get away with that better than asking for cash.

I never did find out, can load be cashed out or refunded? I'm assuming it can.

A load can be xferred to another user on the same network (Globe to another Globe user, or Smart to Smart; its called 'passaload', or pass a load to me, and its found in dialing the *143# menu for Globe). Hence it can be transferred and sold from one Globe user to another.

I should tell you that most things sold to other pinoy (outside of immediate family) will be sold at a wild discount. A few examples:

1) You girl needs money and has no phone or GC. You offer to load her neighbor's (a third party) phone and have the neighbor sell the load by transferring the load to another Globe or Smart user (a fourth party). You load the neighbor's phone with p500. The neighbor (#1) transfers the 500 load to another neighbor (#2). #2 then hands #1 p300 cash, keeping 200 load for himself. Of the p300 cash in his hand, #1 then hands p200 to your girl, making 100 for himself. Your girl gets much less than you sent.

2) Your girl doesn't have a Gcash account. Her neighbor has a GC account. You send p500 (keeping the sample amount the same) from your GC to the neighbor's GC account for your girl. Your girl runs next door and asks the neighbor for pesos. The neighbor hands her p400 (or 300, or. . .). You never have any idea that she didn't get 500 pesos. Keep in mind that the neighbor must pay a 2% fee to cash-out your money, so that the most money possible for your girl to receive is p490. The most any of my girls have received from an outside party (neighbor) is 95%. Others got 50%.

3) Your girl doesn't have an ID to collect remittance. You remit p500 to her ID-bearing neighbor, who runs up the street to a nearby LBC and picks up p500 cash. The neighbor hands your girl p250, keeping half for herself.

Your girl contacts you asking p500 for cough syrup and antibiotic for her 2 yo daughter who has a cold. She has sent you a pic of the doctor's prescription. You send it thru one of the above methods to her cousin. The cousin keeps half the money. The girl buys only the cough medicine, which treats the symptom and not the cause. Two days later she is asking for money again, as the cough severity has returned when the syrup ran out. Nice chap that you are, you send to the cousin again, he keeps half again. This time she buys the antibiotic.

Its a violation of all dating site Terms Of Service for anyone on the site to ask another person on the site for money, at least while communicating thru the website. Reporting the instance with a copy / paste will result in the offender being banned. Once conversation is moved from the dating site to another chat app, anyone who lies in order to get money (or any other thing of value) is committing fraud.

Its difficult to find pinay who don't ask for money, from sites like DIA. Roughly 3 in 10 ask for money by the second chat. At least let me take you to dinner or a movie before you scam me.
