I have been visiting the Philippines for the past 15 years, and I kept a strict buffet only policy. All you can eat but never take-out, Filipinas perform best in their own land, and I seen dozens of sad stories of Filipinas come to US and they gain weight and become lazy. Many Filipina have very kind and soft hard towards their family back home and they themselves become ATM machines.

I have been chatting with a college educated 24 yr old Cebu girl for a few months now. Just trying to keep my marshmallow interested until such time I can be there. Yesterday I mentioned that Feb 11 I will be vaccinated. Her response back was " vaccinated for what dear? ". I do enjoy their simple lifestyle but sometimes I wonder. In the same vein a few years back I was telling a chatmate how hot the sun was on a particular day at my house. She said the sun they have in Davao is much hotter. I told her its the same sun for all the world. She really did not believe me.

I was a passenger in a car which got pulled over for a traffic infringement in AC and as they police had seen the guy had a paying westerner pax the expectation was that I would be paying the drivers fine. I picked up my bag, payed the guy his P250 fare from DMIA and walked over to a jeepney. I assume this fine was a lot less then.

I just sit there and look stupid. I'm good at that. 😁.

If you're driving and there is an accident with a local it's going to be your fault pretty much anywhere in Asia. Especially so if the other party is poor.

For this purpose I have always like Cebu and Ayala Mall. There is a choice of hotel prices to suit most mongers. The Mall is easy walking distance and has a wide range of restaurants. The adjacent jeepney station means it is easy for girls to arrive at the mall.

Many Airbnb and condos to suit all types and budgets there too. A painful drive to local beaches but an easy weekend away trip to Moalboal, Alona etc.

On another topic I saw a youtube video where the filipino stated even if you are not at fault in a fatality while driving you must make amends to the family of the person killed in said accident. True?

If you're driving and there is an accident with a local it's going to be your fault pretty much anywhere in Asia. Especially so if the other party is poor.

Reparations to the deceased family is applicable to westerners or pinoy alike. The only difference is the number of zeros.

I'm considering this as well, find a place that has everything you need within walking distance or a short cab ride. What you pay extra in location you save on transportation costs in the long run.

There is a lot to be said for paying a little extra for location. I've found ground transport a PITA everywhere in PI.

Having lived in Davao for almost 20 years, I would urge you to disregard whatever you were told, as it's pretty much nonsense. I encourage you to come here yourself, make your own assessment and then determine if it meets your criteria. In all the years I've spent here, I've felt totally safe in being out at all hours and in any area of the city. I would say much the same about CDO as I have friends who live there quite happily and I've visited the city often.

Shorter people with dark skin can blend in much better than tall guys with white skin. Add in all of the fat xpats to that number as well.

Had a similar with a euro girl I met last year. She told me a story of how she had been given a loan to make an investment. Investment opportunity fell through and rather than repay the loan she got a boob job.

Davao is incredibly unsafe with foreigner abductions and beheadings a common occurance. Luckily the girls are so ugly that it's not a great loss to avoid the place altogether.

If we maintain this story, visitor numbers will remain low and the girls welcoming. 😊.

I was thinking of Davao but was warned not to go there by a Filipino, said its safe but foreigners do get targeted even there. Also saw a youtube channel on Cagayan de Oro but that falls under the same warning as Davaos. Surigao doesn't seem to have any major malls but might still work. I was looking at Batangas, ferry ride would put you right on some nice beaches in Puerto Galera and they have a decent mall. Only issue would be the ride to the Manila airport if one wanted to do some traveling. Oddly Roxas city might be an option, airport is right near the beach and some nice size malls with some cheap flights to the Manila airport.

Now it would be hard to just give up the hobby cold turkey but if I found the right one with looks, attitude and a small family who knows what might happen.

I'm looking for cities that falls under these conditions or close to them: A city where it would be possible to live on or close to the beach and enjoy that aspect of living in the Philippines. Also close to somewhat of a major city with at least one decent mall that would allow for shopping, ATM's and the like. Also enough public transportation be it trikes or jeepneys. Without an over abundance of traffic and also close to an airport that would make it easy to connect to flights going outside the country. I'd love to wake up and be able to walk out to the beach with my coffee but still be close enough to civilization to enjoy life. Its pretty obvious the larger cites have the women and the apartment living lifestyle with the malls and the traffic and the beaches can be reached in an hour or two drive.

Dumaguete has many of these but heavy traffic and poor beaches. Panglao Island seems to have everything but the mall.

I remember reading once that Panglao Island had issues with terrorists (kidnappings). It was about 3 years ago, but terrorist attacks are infrequent in the Philippines so (paradoxically) a three year interval would not make me feel comfortable.
