Agreed, but with a weak safety net, a lousy education system, an economy that doesn't begin to generate sufficient new jobs and the fact that un-mechanized smallholder agriculture literally wears people out while they're in their 50's it doesn't appear that there's an end in sight to this mind set. Add to this an appalling lack of family planning knowledge among largely uneducated people, and a Catholic Church loudly proclaiming the sinfulness of birth control, and you've got a self-perpetuating cycle.

That is something that drives me crazy hanging out in third-world countries. The countries will never come up because the people are being held back by their parents. I was talking to one chick in the Dominican Republic, 25 years old with no kids. She was saying she did not know what to do because she is about to lose her place. I said well go stay with your mom. She said that there is no space there for her because of her younger siblings. She also said that she is the one that has to pay for her mom's place. I thought that was crazy. I told her I would never expect my daughter to take care of me. My job was to raise her that she will be able to take care of herself and the children that she will have. But from my perspective it is her parent that is not respecting her. Ask Philippine community for help.

If above options fail, or if you do not expect any help from these sources, ask foreigner for help.

Remember foreigners have lots of money, they have no reason not to help, just ask, and ask another and so on. Pretty soon you have a string of foreigners sending money.
