Yes indeed. He has the ISG for sex massage advice. Why would he trust someone on the street? New to Bangkok I guess.

Its just the same when someone on the street asks where you are going, tells you your restaurant has closed, and offers to take you to a good alternative. Actually a bad alternative (with commissions). Even trusting Thais have been known to have been fooled. I have always been surprised that Thai girls I am with are willing to have discussions with unknown persons on the street outside the Hotel. Thais can be overly polite. I just tend to ignore unknown people trying to talk to me on the street, especially if they announce "its my lucky day".

Even Thai working girls can get commissions for taking their customer to certain restaurants and discos. I don't always care. I am happy to take the bargirl to eat at "Love scene" near cowboy, regardless. The food and prices are good. Crazy House has a restaurant upstairs. Would be surprising if the girls did not get commission for bringing the customers upstairs to eat.

A new scam I have experienced a couple of times OS (not in Thailand) , starts off when someone appears to find a gold ring (gold plated I suppose) close t where I am standing and asks if it is mine, and wants to give it to me. I actually have no interest in rings whatsoever.

    This was my experience:

The English-speaking male tout pulled me in from the sidewalk, and offered me a ". Beauty special friendly girl for special massage". Ok, so I assumed that clearly meant your usual naughty massage.

I paid in advance 800-THB for the 1-hour. After I paid, the tout made a point of saying to me,". You tip her extra, if she do all OK for you." That also seemed clear enough to me. The cutie washed my feet and took me up the elevator to the 5th Floor. After I showered, the girl re-appeared, and I initiated the usual negotiations trying to determine her limits and what it was going to cost me in "tips".

Big Zero. Not even a fully clothed hand job. There wasn't any sex service available at any price. The tout then re-appeared and explained that ". There was a misunderstanding, that really they don't offer any sex services of any kind there." The tout asked if I wanted to cancel, and I said yes, and I put my clothes on, and went back downstairs to the desk and stood there. Big dumb blank stares all around. The tout refused to refund all, or even a portion, of my 800-THB.

We strongly recommend against Maiden Massage.

Has anyone else had similar experiences, especially at just your "average" oily?
Was the girl hot? And you got a regular one hour massage? But at twice the typical price perhaps. The "special" comment yes does have a meaning, but as you say the tout also said "You tip her extra, IF she do all OK for you." Its not really clearcut whether this was a pre setup ripoff.

    Rose Bar, Patpong

Have paid a visit to the Rose bar in Patpong once every trip to BKK over the past 2 decades, just to get that good ole sleaze vibe. 2 decades ago, it was a happening bar, even worth pulling the occasional duo for some at-home entertainment, they being particularly adept at certain skills. Over the years, it's certainly gone downhill, but last visit of 4 years ago, still provided a hint of said sleaze for a quick BJ in the back room, along with a lot of friendly groping by a group of girls looking for some brief employment.

Visited last week, afternoon, around 3pm. Certainly NOT prime time, but previously, there were girls available at that hour, even if they had to be woken up. While the carny barker at the bottom of the stairs was still there, offering the enticements, on reaching the top, only 2 OLD women there. I'm sure residents, free room provided for caretaking the place. Still, for 90 baht, a beer in order, and the a/c was working. Declined the BJ offer from the "mamasan" as well as the offer of the "bartender"; even I hadn't reached that level of decadence. Only useful purpose I could see is if you wanted to scare somebody from partaking of the industry. Forget trying to instill fears of STD's; here was actual visual proof of the horrors.

Alarms should have gone off when a shot glass came for her, but I was simply stunned at the horrors before me, frozen like in a classic B horror movie. I KNOW I did NOT offer a drink, merely wanting to finish mine while asking a few questions. Only 2 in the bar; all the other "girls" had moved on, given the bar did not offer a salary, only commissions. The mamasan said she had worked there for 25 years, and I believed her. The only thing I was saying was "My ow", not interested in any of her friendly hand wanderings.

Asked for the bill, and when it came, pulled out a 100 to pay. Then told that while yes, the beer was 90, the lady drink was another 90. When I protested I had never offered a lady drink, I was told I had said "yes", and the mamasan didn't have any money to pay for it herself. Knew I hadn't, and certainly 90 baht not a major pad, not worth calling the tourist police. More mad at myself for not seeing it coming, and did feel some pity for the 2.

Perhaps there are some girls available in the evening, but having read about the decline in quantity of bar wg's, perhaps the Rose a victim of those declining numbers. Doesn't even seem worthwhile to keep the electricity on. RIP.

Never use touts, all their income comes from fees added to what ever you buy. They have NO incentive to tell you the truth or be "nice". Lesson learned I'd say. (not defending the place).

Well I guess I sort of tried it. I was walking around Sukhumvit and saw an advert for full body waxing in Soi 24, so off I go. The beauty parlour was on Soi 24 on the right just behind the Emporium, set back a little from the road, forgot the name. Was handled by two ladies who gave me their phone numbers and offered to do in my hotel room next time. They were clearly learning and it was not a true job, but it was fun. Trick is to get all the hair off your dick, if it returns as stubble it cuts the hell out of the girls' pussy, and they don't like it one bit.

Cell Phone Purchase at MBK Center. Avoid NID TELECOM

My cell phone died while I was in Bangkok and I was in need of a replacement to carry me through my last ten days in town.

I made my way to the MBK Center, which is easily reached by the BTS. It's literally connected to the National Stadium station (W-1). The MBK's fourth floor features dozens upon dozens of little stalls selling every conceivable type of personal digital device. No matter what you want in a cell phone, you can find it here. They literally have EVERYTHING.

I was in the market for something cheap cheap. And in the world of unlocked GSM phones there are few cheaper than the Nokia 1280. After haggling at several stalls I found the best deal at NID TELECOM, which is not far from the fourth floor food court. I paid 690 baht, they transferred my old SIM card to the new phone and all was well.

Later that evening I was working my way through the phone's setup menu. The user manual that came in the box is truly awful and online information is scarce as well. Somehow I managed to block outgoing calls. DOH!

The following day I returned to NID TELECOM and asked for help. The ladies behind the counter ignored me while waiting on Thai customers. I patiently waited, and finally a guy looked at the phone for 30 seconds and declared that they could do nothing. He dispatched me to a place called Telewiz on the first floor. Turns out that's where people who have monthly cell phone billing can go to pay their bills. Obviously not a place for technical help.

Back up to NID TELECOM I waited again to talk to the guy. This time he decided my SIM card was bad. I was sceptical, but a new one was only 50 baht so WTF? Problem is the old SIM card had 1200 baht on it. Could that be transferred to the new card? Yes, the guy promised, the folks at Telewiz can do no problem. Down to Telewiz for a second time, where I learn credit cannot be transferred between SIM cards. So on my way back to the hotel I buy a 100 baht top off at the 7-11.

Guess what? Despite the new SIM card the phone still won't call out. FUCK!

Returned the following day to NID TELECOM and eventually worked my way up to the Boss Lady. I know from reading the collected wisdom here that in Thailand it never pays to show irritation, so as calmly and politely as I could I explained the new SIM card had not solved the problem. Clearly there is something wrong with the phone, I said. Can you pretty please take a look at it?

    Her response: "You go!"

As my British friends say: What a sour-faced tosser!

I wandered around the fourth floor for the next 20 minutes looking for a stall where they looked like they knew what they were doing. Finally, tucked way back in a corner I found a tiny little establishment called FRIEND PHONE at stall A-46. It was staffed by three 20-something guys. They weren't selling fashionable cell phone cases. They weren't flirting with the girls. Instead they were hunched over a variety of well-used electronic equipment and a couple of ancient battered laptops.

The guy I dealt with spoke very little English. But he understood "Call in OK. Call out no good." He took the phone and worked his way through the menus for about 60 seconds, then asked "OK reset?" Sure, I said, reset whatever you like. Thirty seconds later he gestured for me to watch him dial my phone, while pointing as his phone on the counter. SUCCESS! I called my voice mail back home. SUCCESS AGAIN.

Finally, I asked him if he would mind installing the original SIM card because it has far more credit on it than the SIM card I had bought the day before. He had a neat little homemade tool that made short work of this task.

"Thank you so very much, I gushed. What do I owe you?" He waved me away. But I insisted on pressing 100 baht into his hand.

So if your phone is acting up *AVOID* NID TELECOM AT ALL COSTS.

Instead, go see the guys at FRIEND PHONE, stall A-46.

We all know how much Thais care about what farang thinks.
It is still there. Avoid that and the Russian dancers.
