I was in Medellin for New Year's Eve last year and -- big surprise for me -- things were dead. Turns out new years is a holiday that people tend to spend with family and friends at home or at the villa, rather than going out to some big disco or club as you might imagine.

So if you are a solo traveler looking for action, New Year's Eve could be a lonely night. If you have some local friends who can invite you out to their finca, that's a different story.

As I recall, Mangos had a big new year's party the night BEFORE New Years which was a blast. I think they have one of these every month actually.

I will be traveling to Medellin in 1month (lucky me). I will be landing at the Main airport with American Airlines, but it lands at 8:30 in the everning. What is the best way to travel to the city from the airport? And how safe is it?

I would be greatful for any help.

Hey Guys,

I am flying to Medellin for a few days to celebrate NewYears Eve. Just curious on how the party scene there is for the eve. I was considering staying in Lima, but i'm dying to get to Colombia for the first time.

Also, I want to hire a driver/tour guide for my 3 days there, anyone know of any good guys? My spanish level is intermediate, so English is not required, but would be nice.

This site latinamericancupid.com is really good and to me it is a lot better than match .com or amigos.com I have used it a lot in mexico and now i am using it for my time in Colombia soon. It is a little pricey but I think the return is a lot better. Even in My home town of Tijuana i used it and was very good.

There is aslo a translator that you should learn to use plugin.imtranslator.com/ it will aslo help a lot but the funny thing is you can use on the sites and the chat boxes but in msn mail it wont paste

First time posting on this board so not sure if it is the right place. I am visiting Medellin for the very first time and don't know much about Spanish. I have been to Colombia several times, Cali, Bogota, and Cartagena and have friends in these cities so never needed a guide. Don't have a friend in Medellin so getting kind of nervous.

Also would appreciate hotels/apartments recommendations which are guests friendly and also respect my privacy; meaning don't want to stay at a place full of horny and drunk men.

Anyone knows a good english speaking driver and Spanish tutor?

I've been experimenting with meeting non working girls on the internet using daitng services like http://match.latam.msn.com and developing a written relationship with a girl(s) then meet them when I visit.

This worked well for me in Medellin. I met several and one spent the night on our second date and came back a day later for a romp in the afternoon! I'm late 50's and she's early 20's.

I paid for her taxi of course and the date was not much money. Much more satisfying for me, than a working girl. We all pay in the end, right......

I do go to the casas too just to take the edge off before a date ;-)
