The Medellin Mansion vs Club VIP

He NEVER showed up late in the dozens of times I have used him. By booking with him directly, and his English is fine, you get the real airport rate (though Itip him and bring small gifts for his son) and you help a good person. Nothing against Greg or VIP or Clemson or the other dozens of people opening B&Bs or monger hotels in Medellin but they need the money LESS than Hector IMHO (and I think they charge about double the real rate of 40,000 including road toll). With both places, I did not get one. The Mansion driver though arranged other alternatives for me. The Club VIP guy just did not show up period leaving me to scramble for a ride. In other arrangements, that driver Robinson, did not show or was very very late. I would not recommend him as I found him unreliable (as confirmed by others).

Tom, you are a nice guy, but nice guys finish last, that is unless you do a little bloodletting.

The Cartegena guy, "Mr. Personality" is buying or is gonna buy a higher end place...or he may not, depending on which way the wind is blowing.

Heard other rumours too. Seems like everyone will be opening a B & B. Cubanut's friend, 'W' has set up a corporate shell to sell you if you need to incorporate fast and don't want the hassle.

Very accurate report, as I stayed with Beersterry at the Mansion and at Club VIP at the same times.

I want to add that I really think Tom is a great guy. I think Robert at the Mansion is also great guy.

Bottom line is this, if you want a very quiet, private, and nice place and don't need the hook ups for the action then stay at Club VIP. If you want to have the frat party time with all the girls you can spend money on then stay at the Mansion. I am probably more inclined to stay at the party place but that's just me. I had a really nice and sweet non-working girl with me the last couple of nights which I wouldn't dare to take to the mansion so there are pluses to the privacy too.

I will add a few more things about my recent stay at Club VIP:

Not having a public computer was a huge hassle.

If your chick doesn't have an ID (even if she is your wife!) then she is not getting in. While I don't completely disagree with this policy, it can be a pain sometimes.

They are good about making reservations to restaurants and even helped me book a flight for one of my out of town girls. The night girl was an electrical engineering major in school and is a bright girl.

Again, Tom is a great guy with only a seven room place who is not looking to be a hotel tycoon and I personally think he needs a good second man like Robert at the Mansion to help him make this small place all that it could be.

Thank you very much for your comments, I would just like to add that I am very forthcoming with information all you need is to ask.

You were very self reliant therefore did not need seem to require as much as others.
Here in Colombia, "V.I.P status" in the clubs is very important and while it may go unnotice by visitors, its very much noticed by the local women.

Here at V.I.P. we try to mantain a reputation of taking care of our customers in a vip manner anywhere you go.

Environment

Club VIP is more private, more sedate with tighter security with the need to pass through security 24 hours a day. Any infrequent/first time 'guests' are required to leave their cedula with security. Good if you have a 'non working guest', a novia or your own phone numbers.

Medellin Mansion is a frat party! Period. Maybe get a little too much testosterone from some guys and a little too much drinking from others. It can be a volatile mix if the crowd does not mix. You can also get phone number here but not at VIP.


Summary

Club VIP has the superior facility but does not take advantage of it. I was underwhelmed by the organization of events, service delivery or even the information flow. The biggest event in town is happening and I had to find out what was going on from 1. The Mansion 2. Another guest 3. A cab driver I hired. Albert may be connected, but he seems to keeping all that information to himself. In addition, while Tom can be generous and providing you with free drinks etc., the other half of the operation is nickel and diming. A very strange dynamic. I think this place may need a little time to morph into the business it wants/needs to be, as it is very new compared to the Mansion.

Medellin Mansion, while it does not measure up to VIP in terms of facility, it delivers in the service department. It delivers fun. Though, if you have a girlfriend, it may not be the place to bring her. It is also a little more central. You can walk a block to the Casino, 1 1/2 blocks to MacDonalds if you so choose, 2 block to the Oviedo mall, 3 blocks to the grocery store, and 3/4 blocks to the Santilla gym. Body tech is half way between the two facilities.

Now that I have stayed in both facilities for approimately 2 weeks each, I can offer up what I have experienced. I stayed in the Mansion end of April through early May. I have just returned from the VIP.

Facilities:

Club VIP has a superior facility. I think the rooms are nicer and more spacious. All the rooms, with exception of Master Bedroom 9 have air conditioning, the jacuzzi also is in need of repair in the room. Room 3 currently does not have a refrigerator. The living room is very very nice. The eating area is also very nice with two tables seating 8, though you could squeeze another 4 people in comfortably. You could also sit on a stool and stare out over to pool. There currently are no public use computers.

The Mansion will have no living room as it has been turned into another bedroom. Common areas are limited to the pool only. Basic bedrooms have no air conditioning and I cannot remember which master bedrooms do, but you can see for yourself on their sites. The pool at the Mansion is larger, with more walking/sitting area and is kept cleaner.

The Staff
Both are hardworking, but I think the head housekeeper at the Mansion makes a big difference while the men at VIP actually work harder. Enough said. Front office, nobody beats Lina. Sorry Andrea!

The party guys.
Greg caters to the gringos and does a great job despite some of the bitching.

Albert seems to have this latin VIP thing going. I did'nt care for it. As other gringos have said, who the hell would notice that you have reserved that special table and are sitting one foot higher in a nightclub than anyone else ? Maybe if you were class conscious, but none of the gringos I know were aware of it and especially did not like paying for it. Guys just wanna have fun! Period.

Other guys:
Tom, the owner of VIP is a great guy, very laid back but does not want to be heavily involved with the operations.

Medellin Bob works his ass off. It makes a big difference when you have two guys doing the job.

Thanks for answering, also which one would you reccomend to stay at, Im 26 years old and I only plan on being in my room to f*** and I would like to go out and check the party scene and also pick up SW's besides the hoes at the mansion they will be alot more cheaper Im a bargin monger even though I could spend top dollars if I wanted but why pay 3rd world prices in Colombia. Im into Colombian hoes big time I have banged many of them in Panama but now I want to go to there home turf and get them for 1/2 the price if not cheaper.

In the center of the city everything is cheaper unless you go to the houses where you can see a different quality some are definitely worth it while some don't even bother unless that's your taste.

I am a newbie to this board, but not to Medellin. Last time I was in medellin I stayed at Torre 42 in Poblado, just up the hill from centro commercial san diego. It was ok but had no pool, so that sucked. I could walk to c. See san diego. My question for all of you guys is where to go?

I mean I heard of the Medellin mansion and Vip, but does Vip have a website. Staying at hotels and apartments with security sucks, too many people watching who you bring up to your room, basically many snoopy people, including guests. Has anybody stayed at both places to give a comparison? Any help would be appreciated.
