every beggar kid in the area comes out to play after 7pm. they flood the area by the bridge and any whiteboy thinking of crossing from heritage needs to stuff his valuables deep into his pockets and place his hands in pockets just as deep. then he needs to walk very fast.

beggar boys can't walk so fast (you ever see a filipino walk fast. saunter is about their max speed0 so they soon lose interest when you see you are in your serious striding mode. but won't stop them trying to get a handout or a "hand-in" as you zoom by.

    Microtel in Pasay

One of the hotels on Hotman's list is Microtel.

    http://www.microtelbywyndham-manila....FUhJpgodv3QAQw

Has anyone stayed there? It looks as if it is right next to Mall of Asia. Can you walk over or is there some kind of wall forcing a walk around. The web site shows a pitafully small rooftop pool.

I can also see the Metrostar ferry from which you can take a bay cruise or go to Cavite.

    This looks really interesting. X

    I appreciate your help.

This will be a 5 day business trip and I will only have the evenings free so no chance to get to Angeles. I do like freelancers but also enjoy bar girls some evenings.

I have a couple of 'Freebees' lined up but location is not a problem for them (they are both able to travel!)

It looks as if, from the three hotels that my business partners suggest as being in a convenient location to THEM that my best choice may be The Heritage Hotel, unless anyone has a better suggestion!

Hotel costs are not a major problem. Something around US$150 / day would be just fine.

    Hotman.
You're welcome. Since your business partner recommended hotels in Pasay I'll surmise that the office (s) where you'll be meeting is / are near. Irony Monger's report is a good one; musty rooms, scalding / freezing shower temp fluctuations, and much of the advantage being across the street from EDSA Complex is lost so you still have to take a cab are demerits. A quick check of guest reviews show the Midas much higher ranked than the Heritage. I'd go with Midas for the reasons IR mentions and the in-room wifi is free. Note:the Midas is much closer to EDSA than Ermita. Another option is the Trader's Hotel which is also highly rated and roughly midway between EDSA Complex and Ermita.

I've stayed at the Heritage twice, last time was in Dec 2011. The location is good in that it is right across the street from the EDSA Entertainment Complex which is full of girly bars, a few blocks from the SM Mall of Asia, and also reasonably close to the airport. On the down side, it is outdated and a bit musty in my opinion. The water temperature in the showers is nearly impossible to get right; you either get freezing cold or scalding hot until you spend 5 minutes playing around with the knob (the shower's, not yours). Maybe that has been fixed by now. If you like Casinos (I don't), the hotel has one. Also, definitely pass on the breakfast buffet downstairs if not included with your room, it was incredibly overpriced when purchased separately.

All that said, I would consider staying there again if I saw a good deal on Agoda, but I wouldn't pay full price. Right now I see deluxe rooms for about $85 USD breakfast included. I've seen better deals, but this is certainly in your price range, and if someone else is footing the bill then who cares anyway.

My local business contact has suggested one of the following hotels.

    The Heritage Hotel Manila

    MIDAS Hotel Manila.

    Microtel Mall of Asia.

The Heritage looks good but I thought that I should check that the location is OK with the local ISG experts.

    I would appreciate your advice.

We'll be better able to help if you can provide the following: 1) your hotel and "date" budget, respectively 2) whether you have already lined up girls from dating sites (where do they live?) .3) your preference, if any, of freelancers or barfined girls. 4) your comfort staying in a rundown area (Ermita / Malate) , and 5) your length of stay. If you are here for business then you ought to stay somewhat near the location where you'll be doing so as morning / evening rush-hour traffic very much sucks. I would recommend reading the most recent 20 pages of Manila and Makati threads. The general info and the dating / chat room threads are also worth a read.

Anyway, of the three hotels you listed The Heritage is across the street from the EDSA Entertainment Complex, a spot of several go-go type bars where the girls are barfined. The Microtel is too far removed from anything but mall wandering and the sunset. The Midas (on Roxas Blvd) is roughly halfway between EDSA and Ermita, where there are freelancers at MBC, Amazonia, and G Point bars and Robinson's Mall.

If you're here for a 3-5 day all-play stay, I. E. No business meetings, you may want to consider Angeles.

The closest SOGO to Fairview is probably opposite Trinoma Mall and near to SM North Edsa Mall at the northern end of EDSA. Nice and easy to meet in the mall and walk a short distance through the MRT and straight into the G Floor door.

There is a Eurotel a hundred meters further north too and much further to walk.

All the other Sogos and Eurotels are a 30 min taxi ride away in Cubao, or the short term hotels in San Juan.

    Ermita / Malate it is!

Red and Pip, thanks so much for the advice. And hey, forget the Mason Dixon line, there are rednecks everywhere, I've encountered rednecks in New Jersey.

DC is south of the Mason-Dixon line, so that technically makes it a southern city. For those unfamiliar with what I mean, the Mason. Dixon line was what was commonly referred to as the dividing line between the Northern and Southern states during the American Civil War; as well as the boundary between slavery and freedom. Although in reality it predates that period by 100 years. It was created in 1763 to settle an already 80 year old property dispute between Pennsylvania and Maryland landowners.

IMHO whether someone is a redneck or not is more of a state of mind as opposed to a zip code. However, being from the land of where the "homes are mobile and the cars ain't" there's no question to my roots, but I prefer to be called a Florida Cracker. My family origin extends back here over 5 generations.

Chris, if you haven't already made your decision, I'd opt for Ermita. I've stayed mainly in Makati, but next time I think I'll stay in Ermita. Based on what I've read here I think you'll find more freelance action in and around Robinson's and of course at the MBC. If you have the time I would at least take a ride to Makati / Burgos St area to check it out. And conversely if you stay in Makati then take trip to Ermita / MBC area. For the DIA / FC girls I don't think it makes a hellava lot of difference; if the girl really wants to see you then she'll make the trip. But take into consideration that she'll probably want to spend the night and that you'll have to pony up a little more for transport costs as well as add to the wait time. Once you've decided where you're staying you can naturally focus or even limit your search to the areas closer to your hotel.

    DC is a southern city

And my Ma was born there also, and My dad raised there. We did move to Alexandria when I was 4, So you know where the Armory and RFK is. It is a good area out to about 12th st. NE. Now. But my uncle was a Lt. On the DC police force. I was in the back of a squad car and they asked if I had family on the force. They called my Uncle. He was screaming about locking me up and I was a pox on the family. This young un pulled over and let me loose. I said didn't you hear what my uncle said? They said he sure was my uncle and told me to move on. When I was a kid it was still the sleepy little town. Not now! But it is my home. I still do service calls where ever people will pay. Ain't nobody going to tell me I can not earning a living in my birth place. My X Philipina wife got a degree from Howard as a dental Hygienist. I was worried you would not understand what I was saying. I went to London. I like Paddington, and not Earls court. In rome I like old town around the Spanish steps and Albania girls. oh, yea I was born at Columbia Hospital for women. andBut worked at DC general, Marine Barracks, National captitol housing, My great Aunts lived on H st NE before the riots. I scapped and painted the 11 th st and south Capital st. bridges working summers for My Dad. Also Barry farms. DC government use to be at 6th and H NW. I got my licenses there and permits for years until they moved. Now the hall use to be on Kansas ave NW, but they moved that to Maryland. Road the Trolly with my great Aunt. Now she was from NW and came down from Penn. switch board operator for bell atlantic for 42 years. But most of this happened before you were born. But yea stay in the Hyatt in Malate and have the best of both.

Redman my man. You're from DC? And a redneck too? I went to college in DC. From what you said, cheap pussy and all, maybe Ermita / Malate is the right choice. If I wanted upscale and expensive, I could just hang out in Vegas, or M street and Wisconsin. How are you a redneck if you grew up 20 blocks from the capital? I could see if you were from MD / VA maybe. Anyway, LOL, thanks for the response.

I have had a street gang try to pick my pocket and kids try to grab the old ladys jewelry. Still have no desire to go to Makati, Just seeing it on the Horizon lets me know it is upscale. I could afford it. But I just ain't upscale. There was a good ideal about doing both. You will be there a week. Do upscale first. Do day time walk about in Malate and see what you think. Hyatt is great upscale hotel. In malate, great location to MBC and Robinson and Amazonia. But right out the door two blocks are a million homeless people living on the street. And a 100, 000 hungry street kids. And lots of cheap pussy. And my embassy, and churchs. So it is my kind of area. Like 20 blocks from the US Capital where I was born and have been working all my life. Had guns pulled on me there. It is part of city life. Have a safe trip. RED
