What usually happens is any guy like most of us is used to mongering in a certain area and has picked up girls with no problems there before. We become comfortable and feel safe by ourselves. That’s exactly where the problems start, feeling comfortable and safe in an environment that is neither.
Mongering is against the law in China and the girls and their co-conspirators use this as an opportunity to separate you from your money.

Just a heads up, many experienced in China know this but worth adding for new folks.

If a pretty young girl is offered on the streets for 100 Yuan, nearly Every time it’s a set up! Usually they won’t go to your place for one reason or other, they will try get you to her room, once there she’ll act like games on, but usually something will happen to cut it short before it gets heated.
When all is said & done, at best, you’ll be ripped off, at worst you’ll be in a fight with a bunch of her friends, possibly leading to police.
Often her friends will have a way into the room & get to your cash, they’ll switch fake notes or leave enough so you may not notice until you’re / they’re gone.

They’ll be right in with regular street walkers, if you hang & watch, the local guys won’t approach them, these girls are looking for tourist types or ones that don’t know what’s up.

Like we’ve all heard, `if sounds to good….

Unless in a very poor city, pretty girls Won’t serve you for 100 Yuan!
If you find one offering herself for 100, Don’t go

this information was relayed to me by an experienced local chinese monger friend who has been mongering for years all over south china:

this place is nearby the city of taishan and probably the most well-known city nearby would be zhuhai. a bus ride from zh is about 2.5 hours and then from the taishan bus stop, it's another 30 minutes or so to the ferry port where you board a boat to xia chuan or xiang chuan (lower/upper island).

he describes xia chuan as similar to what hainan island was like a few years ago when rules and regulations were more fast and loose in china: kind of isolated, not very developed, and uniquely "china". but in general, it is not wall to wall girls, but more like like cp where there are gals everywhere but you need to look just under the surface to find them all. the place has tried to become somewhat more "family-friendly" in recent years and many of the gals are confined to certain areas around the hotels and rep001tered bbss about. prices are 150-200 rmb st and 400-500 lt. the girls themselves are not particularly great, and many would rate 5-7 or "average".

the hotels, restaurants, and gals are all concentrated in one "commercial" area that you need to ride a shuttle bus to/from the ferry port, which is a pain. food is good, not great, and fresh seafood dishes are the specialty, though not particularly cheap. not very crowded in general, but more than a few taiwanese, hk, malaysian, singapore, and other asian tourists mixed in with the majority chinese tourists.

overall, my friend says that you might go there if you want a beach experience with your mongering, but on most details, especially quality/quantity of girls and convienence of location, cp would rate far above these "secret love islands". and for a beach experience, he preferred hainan which also has the advantage of being only a 30-45 minute away by plane from most cities in guangdong.

i've never been to xia chuan personally and i'm not persuaded to go based on my friend's description, but if you want to be able to have a "been there, done that" experience, then i guess you could go. the way i see it, there should be few really hot gals on this island because i can't imagine girls making more money being stuck on a dinky, hard-to-reach resort island, when they could make big bucks in places like zhuhai / dg / sz where there are regular boatloads/trainloads of mongers being delivered daily.

I think BBS would probably have younger and better-looking girls than those in expat bars.

Not that I know a big lot about expat bars, but in BBS the ages also cover all ranges. Same goes for looks, I doubt the grass is any greener over here.

I went to Beijing's expat bars using the maps posted by Sebastian My. It was a very unique experience. I think BBS would probably have younger and better-looking girls than those in expat bars.

However, not speaking and reading Chinese, it's very tough for visitors to find these BBS locations. I need Chinese names of the locations on a map to show the cabbies.

Would you do us a big favor by marking these locations on a Beijing map? Would be very nice to visit these BBS before the Olympic crowd run over them...

See report for SW in Zhongshan area for R100 that are good 6 and 7's but you need to supply the room.

Well worth trying them out if in the area, but use caution as some could try to take your hard earned bucks and if it does not feel right try another Sw there are plenty to good around.

Ren = person/people

So, WaiGuoRen is as you said "foreigner", from a different country (not city). People from outside your town/area are WaiDiRen (Outside Ground People). Local people are called BenDiRen (OriginalGroundPeople)

Black people can be called HeiLaoWai, or more commonly just HeiRen since black people are not indigenous to China. Or also FeiZhouRen (FeiZhou = Africa).

The minorities that you are referring to are not considered to be really Chinese by ethnic Chinese, although they are Chinese by nationality. Those racist bastards!

"lao" does mean "old" when translated literally, but in Chinese so often the real meaning of a word/phrase is buried in its culture and history.

So,

lao gong = husband
lao po = wife
lao ban = boss/owner

All use the character for "old" in Chinese, but it's a term of endearment in meaning.

I would translate it into elder in terms of experienced. In Germany we use the word old also for husband and wife. "Meine Alte" or "Mein Alter" which is not a very positive titulation.
