There's a new mini-shopping center called Robinsons Cybergate on JP Laurel, a little south of Swiss Deli and on the other side of the street. It's just opening this week and next and tonight we went to a new Thai place in the shopping center, called Bangkok Wok. It's owned by a young Filipino couple who went to school in New York, and it's got excellent traditional Thai food.

The place is very attractive, with a sort of minimalist decor and it's got seating for about 35-40 inside and another 15 or so at the outdoor tables. It's also the first place in Davao I've ever gotten sticky rice with mango, one of my favorite Thai deserts. This is not going to be any type of pick-up place for sure, but it's a great place to go with a date. The crowd was mainly well-dressed Filipinos and the prices are reasonable. We ate for about Php1, 100 a couple and we ordered lots of food.

I suspect that this marks the beginning of a new restaurant boomlet here, as I'm sure the new Ayala Center and the new SM, both of which are in the same area, will also house some new restaurants.

Hi all!

Been down to the sunny side a couple of times since last time I posted and there is a rapid increase in white guys (as mentioned before) and hungry girls (with equally hungry families) in Davao. This has also been touched before but I am experiencing an increase in the amount of desperate texts and offers I get. Now as some might know, I like to fraternize with all types of girls. 183 is reopened and is still very good. Idol, Pescados, etc on Torres are still pretty safe bets to meet females. Autoshop is still Autoshop for good or for bad. Station91 is not unsafe, no matter what people tell you. And even if it is, I'd say that the audience strip tease makes it all worth wile.

For the ones that loves a bit more upscaled resorts but want to try something other than for example Pearl Farm or Chemas, I can recommend BaliBali, a bit south from Pearl Farm and Blue Jazz. Either take the bike/4 wheel car down from Babak, passing all the resorts facing Davao, or use the 1500 peso (2-10 pax) banka from Insular. Day visit is around 1000 peso / pax. BaliBali suite over night is 4500 for 2 pax. Garden Vila is 3500 p.

After reading this back and forth I may have to rethink what mandrake had to say. Why can't we all just communicate nicely with one another. It makes you almost not want to post anymore. If you do not think like these 'senior members' then what ever you have to say is negated and or ridiculed. You guys are not the only ones who travel or live in a foreign land. I need to get the topic here off insulting me or my commenting on the Kid. My daughter's mother, an intelligent filipina (hot looking also), gave me great advice on him: "give up and stop thinking about him".

The current worldwide recession has been especially tough on the Philippines. I would guess that you should be able to negotiate great travel deals, especially to Davao City. Call in advance and inquire about discounted hotel rates. Mention that you intend to travel here frequently on business. As to the Marco Polo, I still think the best thing is to get a Travel Agency in Makati City to handle your entire booking package before you fly down from Manila to Davao. This should save you quite a lot. My guess is the Hotel is now experiencing very moderate occupancy. Business Travel is down and much fewer people taking luxury vacations.

GoodEnough told me that Ray and his Filipina wife are splitting up. This has the Hotel incurring some upkeep problems. But I would guess it will also offer some added room rate discounts. Neither Ray or his wife are stupid enough to allow the place to "go to hell". You should be able to get good deals on nice rooms. Expats love to exaggerate the troubles of guys living and gainfully employed in the Philippines.

In any event, ask for a nice discount everywhere. Travel is definitely down and people are spending less. We can use this to our advantage when coming here. As to the girls working in Hot Legs I-III and the other Clubs, it might be difficult. They have little idea of anything other than that westerners and Japanese/Koreans must pay a premium for them. I would still insist on a reduced rate.

Life here, or at least mine, is not all roses. It's the leisure-time activities that are more abundant, and lots cheaper here, but work is work and there's lots of it in my case.

But for guys travelling here,I do recommend you get an air and MP Hotel package to coverr the entire time you will be in Davao through a Makati City travel agency. If you contact the MP direct you can get a 20% discount by asking and perhaps a Corporate Rate (mention your Co and intent to visit frequently) that is lower. But a travel agency will do even better.

I will have my young son with me at some point. I then become a Father and that is all. Otherwise, I will be out and about frequently. The big titted travel agent in Davao is upset because I have not been calling her. I just work and sleep now. No time for much else. The Family has its roots in NYPD. My great uncle (kid's great, great uncle was 44 years with NYPD; last 20 as Captain of the world famous New York Harbor Patrol). The very fact that the Kid became a member of NYPD is incredible in itself. If you saw his graduation photo you would not recognize him just seven years later (125lbs heavier). There is a three year probationary period where you fuck up once, you are done. After this you become a regular Officer and union member. He is well thought of in NYPD as he is very affable, willing to work long hours and rarely complains. Sadly, he is not fit and a recent physical has him shook up.

I learned from my one sister that he cancelled his plans to go to Davao and has put off all travel plans indefinity. He is very scared and supposedly quit drinking and is dieting. But still a heavy smoker so little help it will all have. He definitely has chosen not to commmunicate with me (fuck him) and is planning to bring Davao Rose (his not my beautiful, big titted Rose) to NYC. My guess is Rose is "calling the shots". You ARE a newcomer here. You need to scan back through Posts here and also the original Davao Board from mid 2006 back to October 2003(before I came on there was nothing).

If the Kid were my Son I would have killed myself years ago. END OF STORY. He is my nephew. His mother is one of my three much older sisters. He is basically an underachiever in a Family with a History of Over Achieving Men. For reasons I can only describe as insane he attended the same private, extremly expensive/exclusive mens high school where both I and my brother attended and excelled academically and in sports. In four years there the Kid played zero sports and barely graduated. He then proceeded to live in my parents home for the next fifteen years, getting his fucking head together.

He excels at two things: Drinking (shots and beers is his motto) and Smoking. He is with NYPD as an Officer and has maxed out his upward advancement as a Patrol Officer. It was my collosal mistake to bring him to the Philippines and proceed to "call in favors" and "fix him up" with at least 30 filipinas age 18-28. To do this required assistance from my Son's (yes MY SON) Mother who introduced him to 5 or 6 MD's, Nurses, X-Ray Techs and Lab Techs at the Hospital where she is on Staff. I also had my Daughter and her beautiful Mother find dates for him with filipinas age 18-21 on the Island where I have a second home.

If you toss enough mud at a wall, eventually some will stick. His success ratio with filipinas was 5%, contrast this with my 85-90%.
