For something similar, but in the gritty fuente circle, check the Elegant Circle Inn. Five floors, two good elevators, nice view from the top floor of the circle / park / ocean. Breakfast not included, but at p1300 they toss in plated breakfast for p90.

The Diplomat is OK at best IMHO, some of the rooms are still musty and damp. Kiwi Lodge was a 'family' hotel and recently I was told it was saying this. Maybe wrong information. But if true is not a place for the likes of you and me.

Smaller hotel try MJ Suites near Ayala is new and promo rates at PHP1700. Cheaper is Pier Quattro but that is not is a great location. Metro Park is not bad large room and has a pool but again you get what you pay for.

Concur on Diplomat. Few weeks ago I had them show me their price list (hasn't changed in the last several years) and a room. I stayed there two years ago. If they have upgraded anything, I cannot see it (the room hasn't changed one bit). I think the price is p1400-ish, no breakfast. Easy to get a taxi any time of day. The place *does* have its charms: One day I walked in / out with about 5 different girls, and nobody batted an eye. Also in front is a decent massage place (p250).

At p2250, consider a deluxe room at Mango Park hotel (has pool on rooftope and free breakfast). However, the downside of this place (near the Iglesia ni Christo church) is its location on Maxilom: the traffic is horrid from 2-7 pm, you will have great trouble finding a taxi or jeep that is not full, and the traffic stands completely still.

I did want to mention here that for Guys planning a Trip to Cebu, there are two decent hotels that are also very reasonable. One is the Kiwi Lodge located on a quiet, residential street near Pier 1. The other is the Diplomat Hotel on F Ramos Street at the corner. I stayed there back in the early 90's. It has been renovated and it lists its prices as $ 27-$30 per night on Hotels.com. Neither place has a swimming pool but both have restaurants inside them. When I stayed at Diplomat the beds were large and nice and the room was a good size. It had good food and a bar back then.
