I have begun checking dates to return to the Philippines. I want to spend a lot of time in Cebu this coming Trip as I met a lot of ladies online who live in and around Cebu City. The Fiesta takes up the entire third week in Cebu. I got stuck here again two years ago. I could barely move about due to the very heavy traffic. The Elizabeth Hotel more than doubled its room rate per night to where I was paying $ 110/ night for the same room. Hotel was full so no room for negotiating. Marco Polo Plaza is already fully booked for that week.

I will have to avoid Cebu that week. I will spend the time in Davao City and see how things are there. I may also visit Ormoc City but with the Cebu Fiesta I could end up stuck with no way to get out during the Fiesta. Streets in Cebu are shut down for the week and it is no fun being there. So Davao, far away in the south, is my best choice. I may fly to Cebu for a couple days and then leave before the Fiesta begins and return after it is all over.

All hotels double their rates for Sinulog DS so it is a time to avoid unless you like to party in the streets. At the same time the Pope is in the country and while not Cebu there is talk in the press of a fll weeks holiday as he is in the country. What other country would stop work for an entire weeks because a religious guy who promotes the population explosion of the country etc is in town?

Will not be a good place to be although lots of cuties dancing having fun and happy maybe great also.

Yes, DS, I agree with all your comments about the Marco Polo. One of the very few truly international standard hotels in Cebu. I use Trivago to check prices and sometimes this hotel is under 2000 Pesos. All rooms are very good. Major downsides are the buffet breakfast costing 750 P per person and the pool temperature, as it is not heated. Otherwise, the Marco Polo is great! Next time I will purchase breakfast pastries and fruit, etc. Outside before checking in.

This last Trip I did not stay at the Elizabeth Hotel, my normal Hotel in Cebu City. I was 4 nights at the Marco Polo Plaza, 3 nights at the Mandarin Plaza and 2 nights at the Harrold's Hotel. I disliked the Mandarin Plaza and I would not stay here again. It was very dark and gloomy looking and the one Restaurant was large, dark and very gloomy. Food was bad and service was terrible. In fact the service in the room for anything was also slow. The Hotel has a very small swimming pool, but it was enough for my 3 year old son who loves to swim. I would not stay here again! Price I paid was $ 60/ nt net.

The Marco Polo Plaza was the best hotel of the three and far superior to the Elizabeth Hotel in all areas. I got a special rate of $ 65/ nt but without breakfast. Main problem with this Hotel is that it is expensive. Room Service is expensive. I had a horrible hamburger that cost me P 500. I ordered it cooked medium and it arrived well done! There are several restaurants here and none are cheap! I dined at the very nice pool side restaurant while my eldest son, Daniel, and my young son, Colin, went swimming. I could view them from the table where we dined. Food was okay but nothing great.

Wine at the Marco Polo is expensive. So I sent the Mothers out to purchase it at Tinder Box. We also brought our own mini bar drinks and snacks outside to avoid paying the high prices for what was provide by the Hotel in the Room. Service at the Marco Polo is excellent! They go out of their way to assist you and the Staff is very courteous. My tiny Son, Colin, loves this Hotel and does not like to stay anywhere else. Has two beautiful swimming pools with huge towels provided. I will stay here again often.

Harrold's Hotel has no swimming pool and the lobby looks very low rate. The Restaurant off the lobby is much like a cafeteria but the food is good and reasonably priced. Staff is very efficient and courteous. My room was smaller than at the other two Hotels or what I get at the Elizabeth Hotel but it was nice and bright and not at all dreary. On the rooftop from 5:00 PM to 01:00 AM there is both indoor and outdoor dining and a very nice bar. Outside you get a magnificent view of the City. Music is played and the lighting is soft and romantic. The inside Restaurant here is very elegant, as is the bar. Food is good, service is also good and the prices are decent. I was up here once with my young Son and his Mother and again with my Daughter and her Mother. I will stay at this Hotel again.

I will be staying again at the Hotel Elizabeth, but not as frequently as there is not swimming pool. Filipinas love to go swimming as do my children AND the lady guest's children, if any. Hopefully they have hired a competent Hotel GM and have none of the former problems with service and in room wifi.

I will be in Cebu the end of this week after a brief stay in Makati at my usual Hotel there. I used hotels.com to book hotels in both Cebu and Davao. I will tell you how itworks out. I will first stay at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Cebu and then try both Harrold's Hotel for 2 nights for Madarin Plaza for 3 nights. Then, off to Davao City.

I like the Marco Polo in Cebu but the rate per night was going to double after the 4th night, prompting me to try the other 2 hotels. Both gave me Deluxe rooms (up from Superior) at good rates and give the square footage of the rooms. Rooms are very big. I will be looking to meet some new, lovely, young ladies as I arrive alone for the first two nights.

I have no plans to stay at the Elizabeth hotel in the near future. When I last stayed there I got the impression that the Hotel was in decline. The Hotel GM quit, citing the fact that HE was working very long hours running four (4) of their properties. The Hotel Manager is more of the "middle management type. She is pleasant and gets her work donebut does not appear to possess the necessary skill or desire to be a real Management Executive like the former GM was. In other words, if the Guest is "happy", Fine. If the Guest is "unhappy", okay! So long as her paycheck comes in she does not worry about the other matters. And the Hotel will never have a swimming pool. Not in my lifetime anyway.

I am planning a Halloween Party for my two young sons on October 31. If anyone has a young child PM me if interested in coming by. I just might do my "Cemetery Search on ALL SOULS DAY, November 1. I posted on the Davao Board as to one eveing at 10:30 PM I was in an elevator heading to the top floor to my Room. Thank you. I am not concerned if the Hotel is in a busy traffic area. I, nor my children, will be walking around outside. When I need a taxi the Hotel Staff with provide it for me. I checked it out and the deluxe room is very large and the rate is excellent. I viewed photos of the two restaurants and they look good. I am only staying for 2 nights, as is my custom when trying out a Hotel for the first time. I will be staying most of my time in Cebu at the Marco Polo. I stayed at the Marco Polo for four nights in July and for three nights in August.

At the Marco Polo the room service breakfast if P520 and it is huge and magnificent. Why go to a large buffet and have to deal with all sorts of people when you can dine in your won room comfortably? We dined out most evening s while at the Marco Polo. There are several nice restaurants in Cebu City that I like.

Never stayed there DS, but often driven by. Keep in mind that it is at a major traffic intersection. Even the alley behind gets a lot of congestion. So, busy on south, west, north sides and Escario St. Another busy street, only a block to the east. Stayed often at Marco Polo and like everything except the 750 pesos per person for breakfast. If included, then the online rate jumps considerably!

I am trying three different Hotels in Cebu City this Trip. First is the Marco Polo Plaza. I was there for seven nights last July / August. I got a good rate and I would have stayed longer but the rate increased by 75% after the 4th night. So I will spend two nights at the Harold's Hotel and then three nights at the Mandarin Plaza. I am not staying at the Elizabeth hotel, formerly my hotel in Cebu. The service had declined dramatically on my last stay in July. No swimming pool and no 2 hour room service make it unappealing. Also, the restaurants are next to each other and right off the lobby. Anyone can approach you at any time. I do not like this.

I got nice rates at all three hotels online. I still have to decide where to stay in Davao and whether or not I go to Leyte this Trip. A lot is still open but at least Cebu is covered.

I booked Marco Polo for four nights as price went up after this date quite a bit. I am thinking of the Mandarin Plaza as the Price per night now quoted is same as what I paid at Elizabeth hotel and what I will pay at Marco Poo Plaza. I am also considereing the Quest Hotel and the Harold Hotel. Photos of Harold Hotel have it looking very nice. No swimming pool apparently.

How is the Room Service and the Restaurants at these Hotels? Has anyone tried all three: Mandarin Plaza, Quest Hotel and Harold Hotel?
