Welcome to the Novela (soap opera) ... of Barranquilla :)

Bottom line is really, Peter runs a service in Barranquilla; placing ads, setting hotels, translating, guide, etc.

Just like the guys that run the Medellin Mansion, the VIP, or the famous Ramon de Cali, and others, they're in business.
They're good guys, but of course they're gonna make a buck, that's a given, that's normal.

I met Peter a couple years ago, had a morning coffee, chatting a bit about Barranquilla and the happenings there.
He's actually a pretty cool guy.

Does everyone need Peter's services, of course not. We parted as amigos, him seeing how skilled I already was, and not needing his services ... hehehe :)

Guys that know the lay of the land, speak spanish, have novias (girlfriends), have contacts in the country, have Colombia / travel experience, etc obviously won't need his services .... but other guys do.

Lots of new guys visiting Colombia that are very inexperienced, they get a nice warm fuzzy knowing they have a contact in Barranquilla arranging things for them, placing ads, awaiting them ... Colombia is a dangerous place if you don't know what you're doing ... we all know that.

Winner I like your style too, you seem like a pretty cool cat. Matter of fact most of the advice you give is exactly the way I view things.

I've met a bunch of great guys from this ISG over the years, and a few bad apples too ... Peter is a good guy.

He'll show you the way in Barranquilla, he'll be up front on his fees, you'll learn from experience and then move on.

Always good to have friends in Colombia. I tell my gringo buddies who ask me the secret of hanging out in Colombia so much as I do: Make mucho mucho muchos amigos and ZERO enemies.

What is your point? I have no interest on the exchange rate being low, It only benefits me when I travel and have to buy US$ or some client brings me an electronic gadget from the US as it costs me less. Not when I do business.

1st of all...what friends are you talking about? I have never personally met a single member on this board. Next, Peter... who are you referring to that doesn't like you? Anyone that has ever been to Colombia knows that what you offer from an ad perspective is just another way to meet gals. One of the more expensive ways and probably not one of the better ways... but a way nonetheless. As for your other corny services... booking hotel rooms, taking guests out and charging them to do so... that is a waste of time and money. There is a saying you know quite well... No das papaya. Well my friend you are the one everyone should be running from. But that doesnt mean you are a bad guy or that someone doesn't like you. HEck Ive never met you... nor do I plan to as certainly I would have by now if I wanted to. No offense to you, but what would be the purpose? To buy a friend? No thanks.

It's simple to place an ad... just find someone with a cedula. It costs 10k pesos for 10 words in El Heraldo for either 2 or 3 days. My gf forgot whcih one.. I just asked her.

Now take your $140 service somewhere else. This board is about helping others find what they are looking for. Not about paying doofs like you to take them out and hold onto their wallet while they bust a load and then pay you 5k pesos an hour or whatever it is you charge for your time. Good riddance.

well it sure as hell doesn't make a lot of since to have the music up loud when i am trying to converse with the chicas in order to see which one i want to take upstairs. my spanish already isn't a1, and to try to interpret and talk through all of that racket just plain sucks. and juernes can't hold a candle to murillo. it seems that juernes was where they send the old, worn-out chicas to die. and to have a nerve to charge four times that of murillo is insane. another good thing about murillo is that the night i went there was a free concert at vivero. there were wall-to-wall non-pros inside and outside of the store.

I haven't posted in a while and hate to put a "negative" report on Colombia but need to get this done. 1st, I have been living/traveling to various parts of Colombia (live in Cartagena) for the past 6+ years. I have made the trip at least 1x monthly during that time and came to feel that where I visited in Colombia (Cartagena, Barranquilla, Bogota, Medellin, Bucamaranga, Pasto) was at least as safe for me as South Florida. I have visited casas in all those cities and had numerous adventures that are fondly remembered.

In my apartment in Cartagena there were 3 men from Medellin renting the ajoining apartment. After 24 hours of music so loud that it was heard in the reception (turns out the administration and other apt dwellers were scared to confront them) I knocked loudly and asked that they turn the f----- music down. I went back to my apt and 2 of them knocked on my door, one wanted to fight, he was obviously fucked up, kept pounding his chect and saying "you want to fuck with me!" He moved toward me and then my mistake, told him fuck you, you got it, he pulled a 45 Auto out and aimed , being loco but not entirely stupid I said you win and closed the door. He then kicked the door down, came after me with the 45, been a long time but I managed to circle the apt and got out. Ahhhh, went to the Tourist Police, ended up with about 12 at the apt, they found a permit for him to carry a gun. Seems all a Colombiano has to do is go to the police station and register to carry a gun. After 1 hour the decision was made that he agreed to be good and if anything else happened he would be in trouble, no shit. The police say I need to file a report with the other police in Centro, and that he was scared because I was bigger than him, what the fuck! Anyway, 2 nights later coming back from dinner 2 of the same police pulled me over and since I did not have a D/L with me they were going to write me a ticket and tow my car. I knew they only wanted a propina, they had the guns and I am not Colombiano, resident Visa, yes but no fuckin Colombiano.

Now to Barranquilla. When I was leaving I ran into 2 Americans that were spooked to the hilt. It was their 2nd trip to Colombia, 1st was great and this time they flew into Barranquilla on Avianca. They cleared customs and caught a cab to go to the Prado(nice hotel, not so chica friendly). Some background, they were wearing their big Rolexs, not sure of chains. They had no one waiting on them, took a random taxi. They were pulled over 5 minutes out of the airport and robbed at gunpoint for all cash ($5000+), id, etc. The cab driver did not seem upset according to the guy I spoke to. Anyway, they stayed at the Prado that night, caught a taxi to the Hilton in Cartagena, changed their flight ($1000) and flew home the next day. They did not venture out of the Hilton until leaving for the USA. If these guys are members please post corrections and insights.

Anyway, if I could get pics to post on this site I would show why we go there and will continue to, chicas, period. Got some friends there but have more in the USA. I am going back next week, maybe do my bi-monthly to Bucamaranga.

I am not trying to discourage anyone from trying Colombia, just know that, like anywhere danger is possible and the police are not usually any help. I asked my girlfriend what good the report would do and it seems that if I was killed they wanted to know who the suspects are, fuck that.

OK, the Novia just this second went to the ATM at BANCO COLOMBIA, she took out 50k and that deducted $26.32 which online reads 1899 cop, my bank charges me a 1% foreign transaction fee of .26 cents. SO I still think ATM is the best way to go!
