An institution in San Jose for over thirty five years, The New York Bar closed its doors forever this week. A liquidation sale of all furnishings, fixtures, equipment and inventory was held. Even the fish on the wall were sold.

A very sad day for me as this was my hangout for many years and one of the few remaining reasons I had to come to Costa Rica. A great American neighborhood bar ambiance, the hottest bartenders in town, and lots of over the hill $20 hookers to choose from. What else could a man ask for?

Of recent history, first the Park Hotel, then the Nashville closed, then Las Palmas in the Castillo. Whose next? The Sportsmans? If the recession is this bad, then those $100 girls at the Del Rey should be had for $20.

Richard, may you retire in peace. You and the New York Bar and Andy Anderson and the Park Hotel shall forever live in our hearts as the Monarchs of Mongerdom.

There indeed has been raids lately, nothing to worry about, it's Samana Santa soon (Holy Week).. These things happen regularly as it is, but they can pick up during this time of year. No one should cancel their trip. You just need to carry a photocopy of your passport and entry stamp. The airport has a new entry system, the stamps have a serial number on them. There is no more crap of "this isn't good enough". Nothing to worry about folks, just expect things to be slow if you're here during Easter as most places shut down for a couple days.

As americans we forget that Its the Law to carry your ID / copy of your passport. With the copy of your passport you will also need a copy of your immigation entry stamp to avoid a trip to HEAD QUARTERS.

Haven't been to Pirate Club, but I do know they offer afternoon discounts for much less than $75 per hour. I have also sessioned at Krysis a handful of times over the past year, and the rate is $40/hour.

Re Hotel Little Havana, the CRT rate is $46 or 25,000 colones. They now have a number of rooms in the $100 range.
