Medellin Hotels and Rental Apartments

Anyone here can confirm on Dann Carlton guest policy? Seen some Facebook chics going there, just want to know if they don't no guest fees.

I have stayed there many times. Never had a problem when making a booking for 2 and telling them 'she's arriving later". Had several different girls in same stay. Never tried 3-somes there though.

And my GF did report that the hotel staff have a snooty attitude to young girls. They didn't show her the respect she expected.

I respect the value of other members' time (and yours specifically) and never post a question until I have read at least a year's worth of posts, but on the Medellin thread, that would be literally 550 pages. Perhaps I came across as entitled or ungrateful, let's be honest: No one will ever read 550 pages of posts just to find the lay of the land in new mongering grounds. I read 100 and gave up. I'll probably just end up relying on intel from the guys I meet at the Mansion.

Maybe the senior members on the Medellin thread could nominate more posts to "Reports of Distinction". That would prevent sincere newbies like me from asking dumb questions about Medellin. ISG is a priceless resource and I am hugely grateful it exists. But unlike any thread I've read on ISG. Reading the Medellin thread is like a looking for a needle in 550 haystacks.

You are both right actually LOL. One one hand this board is a guide, but it's just a title and no one is obligated to hold any new monger's hand so to speak. And on the other hand, if one person asks you to read or not sharing anything specific, just keep reading till you get your answer cause I can promise you it's here, or wait for another to reply. It's really that simple. This is by far one of the top monger boards or for our hobby. But unfortunately it's not going to be organized like a library with exact search strings. On my first trip to mde I found like 60% of info I needed, and the rest in 3 different travel sites.

So patience patience. Everything is here as new updated info is posted daily.

I hear you. It is a very long thread / section. There was a recent effort to split it up to help with that I guess. Not sure if that is working.

I don't think you can go to far wrong in the mansion. Been there several years ago and it was great.

Your response "illustrates the problem". Rather than helpfully answering my questions, you bother to write a whole paragraph chastising me.

I have written long and detailed trip reports on ISG of my trips to Tenerife, Malaga, London, Makati, Madrid, Barcelona, Berlin, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Frankfurt, Panama, Bogota, Cartagena, Gran Canaria, Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiangmai. The list goes on.

I don't appreciate your condescending comments. The board is only worthwhile if newbies can read it and get actionable intelligence. No one can be expected to read over 100 pages to find out simple answers to key questions. Thank god we finally have "stupid shit" threads on many of the local threads of ISG. That has cleaned up a lot of the nonsense.

If I continue to get comments like yours, I'll simply stop submitting trip reports.

I did not see a question in the post I was responding to. If it was about whether you could trust the management of the Mansion with your personal information. Perhaps that was a question. I don't have any information on that, but I did feel that question was answered. Anyway, I believe that I generally try to answer questions for which I have something to contribute, and generally ignore those where I have nothing to contribute. I was commenting on how your post came across to me. And that was not terribly useful to you, so if the admin wishes to delete it I would be very much ok with that.

I just came back a couple of weeks ago so this info is current. At check-in, and at the bottom lost in what you sign as part of check-in, is a clause that says you agree that if you bring an unregistered guest to your room, there is a penalty of $200. I asked the GM about this later and he explained that they just are not girl friendly and this is meant to discourage any guest from bringing a chica to their room.

If you register a chica each and every time would be ok or is there a penalty still?

This is just people sharing their experiences and does not come with a guarantee of being exactly what you think you need. It is not a commercial guide promising answers to all your questions. Your comment that many posts aren't even remotely useful to you comes across badly. No one says they need to be useful to you. No one guarantees that they will be anything to you. And it certainly does not inspire people to try to help you out.

Thanks for the prompt responses. I really appreciate it. I'm leaning toward the Mansion, since the social aspect of chatting with other mongers and the east access to a few girls during the afternoon while swimming in the pool sounds pretty optimal. No one mentioned how much they trust the management with their real name etc. Am I being paranoid? Are they trustworthy?

I've been reading literally the last 100 pages of the Medellin reports thread and learned almost nothing. It is amazing how many posts aren't even remotely useful to a new visitor. I always RTFF, but I feel like 100 pages should be enough. If there isn't actionable intelligence in 100 pages, then there should be an idiot's guide inserted every 100 pages.

I can empathize with you that this question comes up very often and it can be annoying. I think that there are some issues with reading this forum for information. If you take this thread for instance and read back a dozen or so pages you'll see post after post asking for clarification or differing views on what hotel is girl friendly or not. Also trying to get information directly from the hotel is difficult if no one gets back to the person. Tomorrow I'm going to try and use WhatsApp to communicate with them. I will create a separate post with information I read or found to see if that helps people like me.

The problem is that it is not clear even with the hotels themselves. And not always consistent. If you ask the hotel before you book the question may get lost or ignored, but you find out when you get there. Which may not be to your liking. And one person reporting on their experience may not be the experience for the next person. And some that post here are not "rule abiding" guests, and as long as they got away with it they might say it is chica friendly. When in fact the hotel does not want chicas being brought in, but sometimes tolerates it. I am a person that is not comfortable with that, I guess I don't like the uncertainty as to whether I can or can't bring in a chica.

There are some rental places that are set up with this business in mind and mongers are target customers. On Airbnb you need to read all the host house rules, and usually they have something about bringing in non-registered guests. Of course if you register a specific guest when you book the Airbnb you are generally OK. Although they will not always treat that person the same as if it was you and your wife on vacation, for example. I have had to go down to the guard station on some buildings to assure the guard that this person was registered with me and is a normal paying guest you might say. That is, of course, a technicality, but they will at least allow her to be treated as a live in girlfriend or something like that.

It was good for my use. I did not try Zoom or anything like that. It was a bit flaky at times. I wouldn't trust it in a work situation. Better get a surfspot back up in that case.

I'm very pleased with my stay at the hotel. Good breakfast, super location (practically in the Park Lleras), spacious, luxurious room with balcony and jacuzzi and excellent service through out my stay. All this is at a cost naturally, but if you're willing to take that, I would recommend.
