Most LBs I've seen are easily identified & unattractive. When I've been unsure my hotel's security staff or other hotel employees helped me to avoid them.

One could also enlist the help of a TG to give a guy a tour, as she may have a keener eye & be able to offer useful tips re LB avoidance.

One day in Asoke place ST Hotel, several customers exiting rooms or waiting for rooms were with a LB. It depends how you define good looking. Good is above average but not a 9 or 10 or a stunner. Maybe not even an 8 with 10 being absolute perfection and zero being totally ugly.

Learning to identify ladyboys in Thailand has its other merits. Back home I see transsexuals everywhere. And I don't mean the obvious transsexuals that gross out anyone who sees them. Yes, there are more of those out on loose in these modern times. But, its the convincing ones that I was missing. I was in a bar the other night, and noticed one taller than average older "lady" and I did the usual visual spot check (Shoulders to hips ration, length of ring fingers). Sure enough' it was a dude. And older grey haired dude that most took for an older, poorly groomed woman. Looked around and noticed the lady with the big boobs and ugly face had some very big feet for a woman. She wore a low cut, cleavage bearing top. Boobs were fake. Some was she. They are everywhere.

I've been living in Seoul, South Korea for almost two decades and can say that Koreans, as a culture, are extremely homophobic. It's extremely rare for a man or woman to come out to his or her family without risking ostracism. I have a flaming gay friend and he says that Seoul, even though a modern metropolitan city, is a sparse and dry environment for a gay man to find a hookup. He has to go to the Philippines to get some real action.

If a Korean man has a fetish for lady cock, there is little back home to satisfy the itch. In addition, there is always the risk of people finding out a thus becoming a social outcast. Enter Bangkok. Koreans who fancy ladyboys obviously see Thailand as a playground where they are free to do what they would never do back home.

Concerning Koreans and Ladyboys here's what I gathered over the years. Korean Ladyboys exist but in short number. Yes there are transgender bars in Seoul but it will come with a price. If you ever thought that Seoul is an expensive place to punt for girls, it's worse for ladyboys. Bangkok is a way cheaper option for Korean men who want a little more from their women. Second, not to be offensive, but the majority of Korean ladyboys do not have large cocks. Thai ladyboys can pack a sack lunch to feed four. Lastly, I've seen a fair share of Korean Ladyboys and in general, they're nothing compared to Thai Ladyboys. In a drunk stupor, I'd never hook up with a Korean Ladyboy. But a True Obsession coyote? I can't say that I'd never.

Good summary. I would counter that service oriented Bargirls do still exist. Some know that the key to making consistent money is by accumulating regulars. However for sure LT bargirls are fewer. Buddhism has few rules on sexuality and actually none about your sexual orientation. However, Thai do have some problems with people actiing outside of what is socially expected of them. Gay men who perform the women role or lesbians acting like men, are outside of the norm and face less acceptance than their partners. Hence ladyboys who look and act like women are not putting themselves outside of the norm and are thus socially acceptable. It is all about "face". You have to act the way you look in public or otherwise you confuse other people and make them loose face.

Nobody has mentioned the genetic component in all of this. Every trans I've spoken to (several, but not dozens) said that they discovered at a rather early age that they didn't like "boy" things. They preferred "girly" activities, dressing as one, acting like one. This is not necessarily learned behavior. I grew up with a single mom and a sister. I played with her friends' kids, boys and girls. Heard tons of gossip around the kitchen table. But I never wanted to be a girl, nor felt like one. Every one of the LBs I've talked to always use the hackneyed phrase "A woman in a man's body. " Talking to one, I asked if she was going to go the Full Monty. She said she was, in a few years when she stopped working. "Why shouldn't I? I am a woman. But for now, it makes me money. ".

My guess (and it's just that) is that, while still a very small percentage, the percentage of Thai men born with this genetic abnormality is higher than western countries. Such that it has become more of an "accepted" (and I use that term advisedly) fact of life in Thailand. It's ingrained to the point where extreme effemininity (is that a word?) is grounds to be excused from compulsory military service (that may have changed with the lifting of the ban on gays in the military a few years ago but I'm not sure). There are many careers where a trans is not accepted, like schoolteacher, government jobs, etc.

The trans do fit an interesting part in rather rigid Thai society. Almost every variety show on TV, plus almost any Thai nightclub, will have a LB performing. Lots of bawdy jokes, etc. , have the locals in stitches. I asked a GF why, and she said that, as they were not exactly men, nor exactly women (or, as Archie Bunker said, "Too much of both and not enough of neither. ") they could get away with saying things a man or a woman could not. And that was why they were so popular as entertainers. They could say what everybody else was thinking, but were forbidden by societal rules to say.

As far as their popularity in the bars? I am certainly no expert in that arena. But I can relate what one at Cockatoo told me. I stopped one afternoon to rest a second from the heat. She mentioned that all the (genetic) ladies now wanted to go very short time, so they can get back to the bar. They didn't care how happy they made the client, they just wanted to turn them over and get back to the bar. (Well, we've certainly heard that one before). She assured me that LBs would give far superior service, she implied that time (within reason) wasn't a problem, and her main aim was to make the customer as happy and satisfied as possible. I didn't take her up on her offer, but it made a lot of sense.

Assuming, for the sake of argument, that it's true, that might account for the popularity of the LB. I know when I was pulling girls from bars their looks were 3rd or 4th on the list.
