This description matches that of a night-time bartender at Trop who scammed me in mid-May. I got to the bar and ordered a DosXX. He said it was 70 pesos which struck me as odd but I didn't know why. It had been a couple months since I'the been in Trop, and had only ordered a single round of DosXX then. Anyhow, I paid the 70 p and gave a 20 p tip for a total pf 90 p.

Later on I asked a masero how much the DosXX were. He replied 60 p, and I asked if the price was higher I ordered AR the bar. He said no it was the same. So basically, the bartender scammed me for 10 p. Not a big deal in terms of money, but certainly a disrespectful act.

You write that you ordered "a DosXX" which I assume is a single beer. That should have cost you $30 mx or $1.75 dlr and NOT $60 mx nor $70 mx. You were actually scammed for $40 mx not $10 mx, unless you received two beers. One thing to note is that TB for a long time used the 2-4-1 scam in order to get you to buy 2 beers instead of one. Instead of just selling you a single beer for $30 mx, they would say they are 2-4-1 and try to get you to buy double the beer for double the price. There is actually a drink menu posted on the wall, just to the right of the bar with all the prices posted and the price for a single beer is listed as $30 mx or $1.75 dls. Playboy pulls the same scam. The only place in the zona with true 2-4-1 is Chicago on weeknights but only your first beer is 2-4-1.

My previous post I had a brain cramp and wrote the wrong day. It was Sunday night / early Monday. The bartender was very non-descript. Perhaps mid 30's, around 5'9", maybe 170 lbs, short dark hair, no facial hair. Basically your generic Mexican male.

So they are doing it like that at Tropical. I don't think I would have left without my money. Some how, some way, somebody would have had to tell me what the hell was going on. You did not mention anything about going to a manager or mesero or anyone else. It would have been the beer or my money. Which bartender was it? What did he look like?

At times he would have to return to where I was standing, which is also where the meseros come to order drinks. Every time I attempted to say something he would immediately shout something back then leave the area. I have never had a serious confrontation with TB staff in my life so I don't get why the bartender was so pissed off. He had to have mistaken me for someone whom he had a previous history with. Anyhow, I would normally agree with you about leaving with either the money or beer, and normally I would have unleashed hell on the bartender but I was kind of stuck in a precarious position where I absolutely did not want to be noticed. I did not want word going around that I happened to be there that night. I had to maintain a low-profile so I could not create any type of scene that may have been talked about. Yeah so I had to eat it as a $5 dls loss.

Under the same owner with HK, Tropical is a traditional Mexican dance bar where guys can sit with girls, buy them fichas and dance with them on the stage.

But while HK has been nice, clean, straight up with clients, Tropical is the exact opposite with dark, scruffy floor, grimy furniture, meseros who more often than not, forget to bring back changes, or in Clam's misfortune, snap the 100-peso bill out of his hand. Tropical girls are also rough, many are hard-core lesbians, who hate men and would jack up prices after sex.

I was scammed a couple times in Tropical. One time a very pretty chica, Araceli, jacked prices up on me after sex and threatened to call in policias. I complained to the mesero who brought me in the office to see the manager. He's a way overweight guy, with a big mustache, sitting in the office at the North East corner. He held a kangaroo court with 3 other managers present, let the chica blow off steam, bringing in her lesbian friends to support her case. He let her scream and growl at me viciously in rapid fire Spanish, while her older GF's pin her down on the desk, squeezing her boobs, groping her crotch and DFKing her passionately. Apparently she's the young darling of the group..

After about 20 minutes listening to the chica's ranting and raving then my account, the manager calmly ordered the chicas back to work and told a mesero to get me a $20 refund from the bar. Hehe. It was sexy, exciting and a lot of fun watching the lesbians with their vicious attitudes and their mutual sexy supports in a quasi court of justice, Mexican style.

If any bros run into problems in Tropical, go to the manager and insist on justice. You will be treated to an unique Mexican drama worthwhile of a country right next door, but still alien and exotic in many ways.

Moments later when my suspicions of theft were realized, I tried confronting the bartender and he literally wouldn't allow me to say a word. WTF? I think he had a grudge against a customer that I may have resembled. But this case of mistaken identity cost me $100 mx. I'm never going to TB again.

So they are doing it like that at Tropical. I don't think I would have left without my money. Some how, some way, somebody would have had to tell me what the hell was going on. With Chicago making a comeback, I fail to see a reason to waste time at Tropical unless you like the waiters taking all your arriba money.

You can still get lucky. I was in Tropical with a Honduran friend over Memorial Day weekend, and he brought over a chica he knew with a friend to the table. I was very surprised to see she was a cute petite girl that spoke fluent English! All went down hill, however, when the chicas started sucking down LD like they just come from the desert! My friend also started arguing with the waiter over a shot of Tequila.

I never really like Tropical, and only go there with him because he like "normal" chicas as opposed to Silicon Valley (Adelitas) but the place is changed. Now they play hip-hop and have lots of lights. The band came on later and played Mexican standards though. Didn't take the girl because I just can't see paying the demanded $80, + 16 for room for half / HR. , not including those LD and parking and time and trouble at the border. Am too spoiled from the rest of the world which my posts reflect.

Yes what a shame. Over the past 8 to 12 years I have found some true diamonds, can count them on one hand so they are very far and few in between, but with this BS which too also sensed in the past year at BT I have my sights on CC. I can hardly believe I am saying this after oh so many years, I should say a decade of nothing going on at CC.

I was thinking the same thing. Normally on weekdays its 2 for 1. Maybe he was thinking in gringo and it was a 2 drink minimum like in the US? IDK. But it was funny to read and I wonder what the bartender was thinking about this situation. To me, he still paid for it because the second beer is free.

The prices are on the wall directly behind the bar. One beer was listed at $1. 75, I forget the amount in pesos but I think they use the 17:1 rate as well. The signs outside say two for one but they do have single prices. It was the bartender's attitide before I even ordered that pissed me off. Besides, if I drink too much, I can't do what I came for.

Arriba was $60 for the standard 30 minutes, fichas are $8. So about 75+40+15= $130 for about 2-3 hours of attention. Normally I wouldn't spend that much time but girl had a wonderful personality.

Arriba - $40-50 (20-30 min seems to be pretty normal. I've done one hour several times for $80-$100 Range. Depends on the girl.
