I expected to get a confirmation email soon after, but I waited about 2 hours and a Chinese dude from ctrip called me and said they could not guarantee a double bed or that exact rate. WTF? Seems these hotel booking sites advertise a rate but actual price and amenities are certainly not guaranteed. I ended up giving my "girlfriend" my credit card info and she booked the room. Even with her, the hotel gave a rate of 6. 3 RMB / dollar, less than the 6. 5 RMB / dollar advertised on currency conversion Websites. I guess it is what it is and I have no experience in the Chinese game yet.

BTW, is Wafujing famous for mongering activities? And, does anyone know of any mongering activities in the vicinity of the Grand Mercure? I think I'll be arriving at the hotel a few hours before my girl so I might want to get a little action beforehand. Also, does anyone know of a good Beijing map in English I can see online? Hard to visualize all the mongering areas you guys talk about.
I don't remember the rate, and it was 2010 anyway so the rate won't be the same. I've had no problems with ctrip. Com for booking rooms anywhere in China. Book it, show up, same deal as advertised. I can't offer any other info than that on booking. Wanfujing is a tourist walk street. You'll find pimps and teahouse girls and all the usual scams that go along with those areas. I did pull a girl from a she-pimp from there but it's a last ditch move and was only a mediocre experience. Read the forum to find better opportunities.

I told her to look for a room with at least a double bed, either a large shower stall or bathtub (for kinky reasons) and a safe in the room for valuables.

    1. Is that a good deal?

I use www.sinohotel.com Have done for years and never a problem and NO payment in advance.

I always ask for the confirmation in both english and Chinese just in case the hotel reception try the.

'sorry no booking' or the 'no english' thing. Does not happen often but it does occassionally.

The wangfujing bookshop has a good selection of maps including dual language and the Periplus map for.

Beijing is available in many overseas countries.

Thry google for a subway map and there is a BJ bus website.

The last time I was there, this hotel was not girl friendly. They had men who doubled up as security guards standing nearby the hotel lifts to vet people going in and out of the lifts.

Because of this, I never stay in this hotel again.

The Novotel XinQiao is in the Chong Wen district, not terribly far from Wangfujing (short taxi or subway ride). The Chongwenmen subway station on Line 5 is right outside their door. Their rooms are good, and they seem to be girl friendly (I've brought in girls, though they happen to have been freebies, no idea how the hotel would spot the difference.). I've seen SW outside their door in the evening, though never tried them, but that's another clue to me that the hotel is cordial to them.

Yeah, I just looked at the map. It's a KM to Wafujing and another little walk to the subway.

I just remembered it taking about 10 minutes to walk up to WFJ and that there was a subway station up there somewhere.

I do like being near a center like that so when I just can't stand one more "I don't know what's in this food and I hate it and.

Why does it take 20 minutes", I can just pop into McDs or KFC and sort of know what I'm going to get.

Come on, man, just book the hotel from the internet, what is this whole thing about calling the hotel, so you get a better rate? Besides, if you try to book it on the internet, you will know if you are getting a better deal.

I have never stayed there as I like the easten side better, but it is inside 2nd ring road and close enough to subway. Getting a taxi in BJ in the evening can be a real problem, so subway access is very useful.

Any hotel in China, especially in BJ, in that price range, is more then decent by American standard, in fact, I would much prefer the hotels in China for the same price, at least the service is much better in China. As for if the hotel is GF, I had posted earlier, only the Great Wall is known not to be and all others should be fine. There might be cases where the hotel sauna might have tipped off the security guys to block outside girls, but in general, the hotel policy in BJ is quite relax in letting girls in.

So not sure if that safe right now because I ll be there next week.

    Thanks for your help

    Ho Jo not Ho friendly

On a recent trip I stayed at the Howard Johnson "paragon" (I think) by the railway station. It was not girl friendly. They had a big sign by the elevator saying no guests after 10. I tried an out call a bit after that and she got in OK but was too greedy so I sent her away and asked for a replacement. New girl came and was hassled by security. They would not let her up. She called me to come down and they were all arguing away in Mandarin and ignored my lame protests in English. All got a bit freaky so I bailed and met her later in the lobby to give her taxi money plus a tip for the hassle. I don't know if they would have acted the same if we arrived together but I won't stay there again to find out. BTW had the hotel massage later and FS was on offer but at US price. Maybe the spa girls have an arrangement with security to minimize competition.
