Cafe Oms @Binh Thanh
On the way back from Q2, after Cau Saigon, I took a detour into D2. I have never been in this area before. But I "smelt" something sleazy about this area. I slowed down and look the both side of the street. I noticed an old woman (around 40) at a hot toc place waving at me when I just drove passed it. I continued on till the junction and turned right into Ung Van Khiem Street. (On Google Maps, enter “ho chi minh city, ung van khiem”)
I was still going slowly. Amongst god knows everything, I noticed a few small cafes at the both sides of the road. They looked suspicious. Very suspicious. I made a mental note of these places and drove on. I turned around at the point where the street become less busy, and drove back down the same road towards the point I started.
I can now see many cafes like these, and some of them have girls sitting in front of their shops. These girls were wearing colourful clothes. You can’t miss it. They are definitely cafe oms.
I picked one of them and walked in. This place (see pic1. Can you see a little gecko on the wall? Cute
) had a few chairs and nothing else except a mandatory plant (you will notice there is always some plants in front of these cafes, presumably to obscure the views from outside) This girl greeted me and sat me in a worn chair. The Thanh Nhgia is on the LEFT side of Nguyen KIEM (Phu Nhuan District) which is one way at that point. It's number 567, NOT 568 as reported, it's big and hard to miss. I read two of Hardluck's recent reports on this place and decided to try it out one afternoon, mainly because I liked the idea of a cute girl giving me a bath. Hi guys, I'm back in VN !
