Per recommendation by a member of this forum I tried out Minh Tanh Hotel, near the War Museum. I live around the area and was happy to find another place as my usual place was located on Nguyen Dinh Chieu, near HBT, next door to a discotech. i am very very familiar with this place as i used to go all the time when i lived in vn. the entrance fee is slightly higher than other local vietnamese massage parlours because cao thang is in an area where they will get foreigners as customers aswell so hence the slightly higher entrance fee (about 30.000vnd higher than local vietnamese parlours) but for this price increase you will get a lounge where you will get a lye-back chair and watch tv and eat fruit, this is also where you can get the foot massage:


steel bed room:

right first of all, the guys in here are not gay, gay guys work in vn gay massage parlours. basically what happens in this room is you lie face down on the steel bed with cloth and they give you a exfoliating body scrub. they do not scrub your genitals. but if you are like myself, then you probably don't want to go in this room, as 1 although it's nothing i just don't want another guy rubbing me down when i am naked, and 2 it really is not worth the money. speak of money, there is no actual charge for this service, they just ask for a tip, normally 50.000vnd, you either write it down on the tip sheet (they will only receive a percentage of that tip) or you give them the tip cash in hand (they don't tell reception anything and they will get the full tip).



foot massage:

it costs around 80.000vnd for 45mins or so, tips should normally be around 50.000vnd, so total 130.000vnd for this service. these are done by trained male foot massage therapists who only do this for a living. in my opinion well worth it, but hey that's just me, some people are weird about getting their feet touched but not me, it is actually very very comfy on the feet and the therapist also helps you to rectify back problems etc. by pressure pointing on the feet.



body massage:

all i can say is 200.000vnd? don't let them ripp you off like that! us local guys only pay 100.000vnd tip (some even 50.000vnd but to me that is a little low). before you ask, no i am not vietnamese, i just lived and worked there so i know all the ins and outs (as some members of this forum can vouch after previously meeting up with me). some girls after the body massage will ask you if you want your manhood massaged, they will look at the expression on your face to see if you are new to this or not, if they think you are new (potential money) then they will ask you how much you will pay, they might even say 500.000vnd etc. if you play it cool and act as if you have used this service regularly then they won't even ask you how much you will give. anyway if they do ask you, just say 100.000vnd, obviously they will say no and try to banter, just stick with your price, trust me they would rather have the 100.000vnd (standard local tip price) than nothing! if they don't ask you, then what happens is at the end of the manhood massage (and when your hour is up) they will ask you to write on a tip sheet (a little piece of pre-printed paper), you simply write 100.000vnd and say thank you, they can't change it or they will get in trouble so dont worry if she starts cuddling you and asking for more lol!

some time ago, someone reported on this place with some appreciative comments.
so i decided to give a try.

also for anyone who comes to hcmc for the first time, and has chance to visit massage places, the following general description may be of help. of course the system/service differs from place to place, mind.

you must understand the system to avoid feeling ripped off.
i went to this place for a decent massage and a happy ending, nothing else. to tell the truth, i only came for a happy ending and a telephone number because i know a massage in this type of place is dismal. i mean i would consider myself lucky if i get only minor bruises.
the system:
take a lift to the 4th floor and walk up the stairs. you come to a small reception area. without any info on the price and services, a guy whisks you through to a confined changing area. as a first timer, you are likely to just follow what they show you. you would notice there are so many attendants (i wonder why so many?) you take all the clothes off and wrap yourself with a towel. a guy will show you the steam bath, sauna etc. so far so good (except you may be wondering how much its going to cost)

after steam/sauna, a guy guides you to a room which resembles an operating theatre. they tell you to lie down on a stainless bed with a towel over it. at this point, you should be seeing the big warning sign across your face. this is i think where a guy will wash you all over including your manhood. if you dont want to feel raped afterwards, you must insist that you dont want it. (certainly i did tell them i didn’t) but they insist you to lie down there because they want money for this from unsuspected customers. just say not loud but firmly "toi khong muon" or/and "khong can". tell them you want a shower. reluctantly they would show you where the shower is. after shower, you would be given this ridiculously large shorts to wear, which looks a bit dirty as well.

now they guide you to a large room with many old comfy chairs. they tell you to sit in one of them, and bring you a tea and some fruit. they want to massage your feet. if you want it and know how much it costs and are comfortable with it, then go ahead (but a guy will do this, i think). in my case, i said “i no want!” (by this time, my english is suffering as well) having successfully thwarted their rip off plans, i was finally taken to a massage cubicle.

Smiley Bar is one place to go, from what I could tell there is a mixture of natural and enhanced.
