As my title indicates, my thoughts on Apocalypse Now differ radically from the prevailing opinion usually expressed here: I absolutely love the place. I've been to Saigon maybe a half dozen times over the past three years, and I've hit Apocalypse on each occasion, never being disappointed (save on longer trips, when after a few nights you start to recognize the same faces over and over again).

I think you mentioned in one of your Parts that girls in Apocalypse looked better to you than ones in the HBT bars. I haven't stepped inside Apocalypse in years, so it is possible that quality has improved a lot since when I used to go there sometimes. And for sure the HBT bars these days are in a dreadful state, not really worth visiting actually. Those bars went through a series of serious clampdowns a couple years ago, with people being put in prison even. The bars mostly closed down, with just a few remaining open, and those with far lesser talent than in years past. They are basically stocked with girls (ok, ladies) who should be retired from that career path by now. One guy posted here a while ago about a new bar called Ly Ly on HBT, also another one there. I stopped in at both. Dismal. He seemed hopeful. I see no reason to hope. I checked in at every one of the bars down there over a couple nights. Not ONE young hot one in any bar.

In the past, there was one bar for sure that had hotter better girls than Apocalypse (at the time), it was called 91. It almost always had at least one or 2 superstar girls, and the rest looked pretty damn good too. The tradeoff was that it was tamer than other bars, not much chance you'd be doing any fingering or french-kissing there. There was a bar on LE Thanh Ton called Bin Bin that also often had hotties, just not in abundance like 91.49 and 51 were also often pretty good.

I ended up one of those nights at 29 on Dong Khoi. I spotted a non-familiar face, slim girl with dark skin. Apparently her first night there but this girl clearly had experience. She said she was 18 but there's no way she was that young. Spoke zero English. She got aggressive once we embraced, had this way of kind of growling something in muttered Vietnamese as she did her thing, kind of animalistic. Things got well out of control right there at a downstairs table. My belt ended up hanging down from my pants somehow. Al kinds of things got touched, by both of us. Some DFK but not all out. I think they padded an extra lady drink (80) onto the bill, which came to 450 or so. I tried tipping her 300 but she was not pleased, so it was 400. That's too much for non-FS and non-BJ, I would say. Anyway, I did see 2 girls (her being one of them) who most guys would be ok with for this kind of thing, or even the upstairs kind of thing. The rest looked like the ones from the other bars, not good. I lucked out in a way because soon after arriving and settling in with this girl, a group of Koreans came in and went straight upstairs, which I was told was for FS or BJ only. (It didn't used to be that way there) So me and my girl were not allowed to go upstairs till they finished, so it meant she needed to do something else to keep me entertained. Fine by me because I wasn't into spending extra large on FS or BJ there.

So if you like the tiger type, there's a pretty good one at 29 now.

Back in 2012, I visited a bar called Lodge Bui down towards the end of 39/2 Pham Ngoc Thach. Would anyone know if this place is still open and if the girls hanging out there are just regular girls or freelancers?

It seemed like a decent place to hang out. Live band and pool table upstairs. Saw a few bargirls hanging out back then, but never had a chance to chat them up (was with my Ex at the time).

Except for my Go2 Bar spinner, I haven't really given much of a detailed "trip report", so let me finish up by doing just that. Thanks to work and other commitments, I only had the pleasure of spending time with three girls: Linh the spinner plus two girls from Apocalypse.

The first Apocalypse girl, Kim, was definitely one of the unicorns I always look for. She's a local girl, not a regular, and I've never seen her before in Apocalypse (nor did I see her again after the night I met her). I almost missed her as she showed up pretty late and I just happened to bump into her at the bar when I was refilling my empty Corona hand. We retired to the back / outside area to chat a bit, then headed out. She took me to her apartment (so no hotel fee) and again no mention of money at all. A good time was had, and after just a couple hours of sleep I was awakened by the early morning noises from the apartment building: yapping dogs, creaking pipes, slamming doors, etc. I decided to just head back to my hotel so I could get some sleep, and I quickly got her phone # but either I entered it into my phone wrong, or she wasn't interested in hanging out again because try as I might I couldn't reach her for the rest of my stay. I was disappointed because she was very pretty, and a fun girl in bed. I left her 2 MM on the coffee table as I was heading out.

I believe I met Kim on a Friday evening, and the next night I had similar luck. Well, maybe; I'm still not sure how I feel about Vyy. She was another outlier at Apocalypse. Not a regular, showed up alone and late, and wow. She was a strikingly beautiful girl. We clicked right away, and after a couple drinks and a bit of getting to know each other, we headed back to a hotel where her friend had a room. The friend was out somewhere, so she let us use the room for a couple hours. It was exhausting, crazy hot sex. Really outstanding. Vyy was completely up-front with me from the beginning: she works the "circuit" between Shanghai (Manhattan Bar) and Singapore (Brix), and occasionally Hong Kong (though she said it's harder for some reason to get a HKG visa these days.) She had just arrived back home from Shanghai to renew her visa. She said she almost never goes to Apocalypse when she's in Saigon but was feeling horny so. Just my luck! After our quick romp I gave her 2 MM, and we exchanged numbers.

She had plans to spend a day / night in Thailand with a friend the next day, but she asked if we could get together when she returned. I said sure, but didn't really expect it. But, she was serious and stayed in touch. When she came back, I thought it would be nice to have a proper "date" so we had a nice dinner, then some drinks at one of the many sky bars around town, and finally migrated to another bar somewhere around Apocalypse. And that's where things went south; she started asking me if I wanted long time or short time that evening which, to me, was just in poor taste considering I'the just spent maybe $100 USD on dinner and drinks. I didn't tell her that, but I did tell her that I wasn't expecting free sex later and that I would of course pay her, but she kept insisting long or short, 2 MM or 3 MM? I got fed up and sent her home, then headed to Apocalypse for greener pastures. But wouldn't you know it an hour later my phone starts blowing up with "I miss you baby" and "I'm horny come over" messages, so my little head got the better of me and I acquiesced. She even told me she had a hotel room, which sounded great because it was one less expense for me (or so I thought). Of course when we left the next morning she stood there at the front desk waiting for me to pay for the room. So, overall, while she was gorgeous, and the sex was outstanding, she left me with a sour taste in my mouth. I guess I should have known better. She's one of those mercenary working girls who just want to squeeze every dime from gentleman like us, but she hides it pretty well. At least she was fantastic in the sack, so it wasn't a total wash for me. But I should have listened to my spidey sense when I sent her away and just ignored her when she messaged me later.

A couple final thoughts. There was a recent thread where I think someone said he could barely find a 7 in Apocalypse, and all I can say is wow, maybe I have low standards! I'm a pretty hard grader myself, but that statement just seems silly. I think 7 is an easy grab, they're a dime a dozen. 8's and 9's are fewer but they're still there, and I did even see one girl I'd grade even higher. That's what I love so much about Apocalypse. The quality of the girls is very high in my opinion. Weekends obviously are much better, but even on slow weeknights there are plenty of very attractive ladies. And to pre-empt the inevitable comparison to the billiard bars of yore (and the few that still remain), I've been in a few of those bars in D1 (my first trip to Saigon was several years ago when there were still at least 2 or 3 within spitting distance from Apocalypse. Gone now, of course). All I can say is: there's no comparison. Not to demean anyone's preferences, but the girls I've seen in those places are farm girls in cheap cocktail dresses. The girls in Apocalypse are prettier, classier, better dressed, speak better English, and they don't constantly pester you for lady drinks. Just my $0. 02, coming from someone whose favorite place in the world is a working girl pickup bar.

Anyway happy hunting, gents. I hope I can get back to HCMC and Apocalypse Now sooner than later!.

OK, so it's 2 or 3 AM and the crowd at Apocalypse has thinned out; even the Hardcore Girls have left en masse for god only knows wherever they all go. You spent too much time chatting up too many girls, unable to make a decision, and now you're drunk and horny. What's a fellow to do? My honest advice is to go back to your hotel and get a good night's rest. But of course we all know that's not going to happen (not if you're me, anyway). Your 2nd best option then is Go2 Bar. It's in what's known as the backpacker's district, not far from Apocalypse. A taxi will cost you maybe 20 or 30 k, and the drivers will all know the bar by name.

I'll start by admitting I have very mixed feelings about this bar, though as I've been thinking about writing Part 2 of my report, I don't really fully understand why because I've had fantastic success here. But there's just something about the bar I viscerally dislike. Frankly, it's a shithole. It's small, loud, the music is terrible, and it's usually full of sloppy drunken white hippies in flip flops and dirty t-shirts. Pretty much the exact opposite of Apocalypse Now. But when it's late at night and you're still on the hunt it's a good bet, at least on weekends. I seem to recall having been in here once or twice pretty late on a weeknight and it was dead, although one of those times I met a lovely girl and had a great evening with her, so I guess it doesn't hurt to take your chances even if it's a random Tuesday or Wednesday.

As I mentioned in Part 1, you very well may see a few familiar faces here as some of the girls from Apocalypse migrate over later in the evening. But you'll also see some fresh new faces. I'm not completely sure but I have a hunch that Apocalypse screens the girls they allow in, plus I'm pretty sure they charge them some kind of back door "cover charge", so I think that keeps some girls away. The two girls I recall picking up from Go2 Bar over the years were both very cute, stylishly dressed, etc. , BUT. Both had pretty minimal English, so I wonder if that might also be part of the Apocalypse screening criteria. I've never met a girl in Apocalypse whose English wasn't excellent (relatively speaking), so I do think that has something to do with it. Regardless the girls I've met at Go2 Bar weren't zero English speakers, so communication wasn't a problem. "You like me?" "We go?" "You have condom?" is about all they need anyway!

I met one such girl on my recent trip, after striking out at Apocalypse. Actually I *thought* I had struck gold at Apocalypse, with a lovely young hottie who I had never seen before. We spent an hour or so chatting and drinking, and then she asked me if I wanted to go to a karaoke bar in the backpacker district. I joined her, and it turns out her friend is a waitress there, and the bar was dead, and it wasn't going anywhere with her, so I made my excuses and left for Go2 Bar. I'm still not sure if she was just stringing me along, but it was late and I decided to cut my losses. At Go2 Bar I didn't really do much surveillance before I was caught up with a very cute little spinner named Linh. One problem with the place is that it's so small, it can be tough to really get a good overview of the available ladies when it's crowded. The bar is probably 75%+ dirty hippies dancing and drinking, and the working girls usually congregate on the outskirts of the dance floor (which is 90% of the bar). My spinner was at a table near the door, so that's pretty much as far as I got.

I'm not much of a kiss and tell guy, so I'll leave out the gory details of my time with her. I was pretty drunk so after a half hour or so at the short time hotel, I realized the end wasn't, *ahem*, coming, so we slept for an hour or two and the next thing I knew it was light outside. We left the hotel, she asked if I was hungry, and of course I was so she took me to a nearby pho restaurant for breakfast. After that we went back to my hotel for more sleep and since it was after 7 AM, she could officially "visit" after dropping her ID off at the front desk. A few more hours sleep, another round of good sex and the long awaiting successful finish, and I sent her on her way around noon. In retrospect I should have asked her to stay as she was a very enthusiastic and lovely girl between the sheets, but I felt I needed some solid solo sleep. I should point out that at no time had there been any discussion of money, neither the night before nor during breakfast nor during our time at my hotel. That's one really nice thing about a LOT of girls I've met at both Apocalypse and Go2 Bar. We all know we're paying for it, but it's nice when the girl trusts you and doesn't obsess about it. I'the say most of the girls I've met in Saigon are like that, but definitely not all of them. Stay tuned for more on that in Part 3.

Since I haven't seen much written about it lately except a few cursory disparaging reviews, I thought I'd give a quick overview for any newbs or tourists who might be in town and looking to check it out. First things first, prices / particulars: beers aren't as cheap as other places, but neither are they ridiculously expensive, and if you're budget conscious you probably don't want to be shopping here anyway - plenty of cheaper options as everyone knows. Coronas are at the top of the scale at (I think) 135 k, for half that you can get Tiger in a can, and I think there is something local even cheaper at 55 k. I don't know about booze because I don't drink hard liquor when I'm out and about. There is also a cover charge of around 100 k or on weekends, which is partially refundable on a drink coupon. The universal price for a girl is 2 MM, plus hotel if you don't already have one (exceptions are possible, more on that later). There is no "long time" or "short time", or rather, if a girl asks you that question I suggest you move along to the next girl who strikes your fancy. It should be 2 MM overnight, and BRING CONDOMS; the girls don't have them. The short time hotels probably do have them available for purchase but not always. And regarding hotels (for the newbs), as is well-documented elsewhere in the Vietnam forum, your 5-star Western hotel will absolutely not allow girls in after 9 pm, so plan accordingly by either staying at a small local GF hotel or being ready to pay for a short-time hotel, which runs anywhere from 300-600 k for late-night until morning.

Now, on to the layout and the scene. Although the bar opens early, it doesn't pick up with a good crowd until 11 or midnight. That always works out perfectly for me as it give me time for dinner and drinks with my local friends, which give way to fake yawns and complaints of jet-lag around 10 PM. =P Then it's a dash back to my hotel to freshen up and get ready for game time. When you walk in there are always a couple larger tables occupied by groups of 6-8 girls, usually with a bottle or two in the middle. They're on the left, closer to the stage but parallel to the bar (so, not all the way up in front of the DJ). I like to call these the Hardcore Girls as they're there every single night, they tend to leave in a pack together, and I've never seen any of them go with a guy, so don't waste your time. I've chatted up a few myself on a couple occasions, but never got anywhere. I really don't understand why they're there if they're not working, who knows. Anyway avoid them. Focus instead on the girls at the smaller tables nearer the door. They're all working, though they also tend to be semi-regulars. Nothing wrong with that, and I've taken a few of them out for wonderful experiences.

There are two more contingents of girls where I tend to focus my energy though. First is the solo or pairs of girls standing near the walkway between the two bars, or at the ends of the bars nearest those walkways. I may be just over analyzing (as you can probably tell, I've spent A LOT of time in this bar! But those girls tend to be non-pro or just part-time, non-local girls (often from Hanoi) in Saigon for a few weeks to work and pick up some extra cash. They don't know anyone except maybe the friend or two they're travelling with, so they generally won't be drinking at a table with a bottle or a bunch of food and a small crowd of girls. They come to HCMC because nobody knows them and I don't think there's much opportunity for this type of side-work in Hanoi. I've met two extremely memorable ladies from that segment of the population, one of whom still sends me WhatsApp messages once a year or so when she's going to Saigon. You've got to pick and choose carefully, but generally these girls are rich with potential.

There is one more rare and elusive creature to keep an eye out for. The local true part-timer / non-working girl. I've met a few of these unicorns, and they can be the most fun just because the hunt is more fun. They'll show up very late on Friday or Saturday (after midnight, or even later), usually solo, and they'll hang out at the bar nearer to the DJ (right across from the tables of Hardcore Girls). They tend to be well-under the radar (no short skirts, no low-cut tops), and they're elusive. I've often blinked and missed them, but if you can find one, enjoy. I met one such girl when I was in town earlier this year, and have been thinking about her ever since, but I couldn't get in touch with her this time. I did see a friend of hers one evening (a friend who, incidentally joined us in a threesome last trip! Who told me my unicorn was in Myanmar, so I guess that's why I couldn't reach her on her VN phone # or via WhatsApp. BTW the friend was beautiful but a bit of a cold fish, so despite the prior threesome I had no interest in rekindling anything with her.

A couple final tips: not every girl here is working, so don't assume you can pick up anyone. There always seem to be some local couples / groups, and they're usually up near the DJ. I suspect it's entirely possible to infiltrate and pick off a 5th wheel from these groups, because they all know what goes on at this bar, but you probably want to be discreet about it to avoid any trouble. Also don't bother going upstairs, I don't even know why they open it. Or, maybe, do bother if you're looking to pick off that 5th wheel, because it seems to be just locals up there.

And don't disparage if the next thing you know, it's 2 or 3 AM, the bar is clearing out, and you haven't found your sweetheart. Go2 Bar isn't far away and it's open until dawn. In fact, there's a good chance you'll see some familiar faces as some of the regulars from Apocalypse head there later. I'll leave that for Part 2 .

Last week I went to have a look at the remaining bars in district 1.

The most promising one was called Ly Ly, it's in an alley off of Hai Ba Trung kind of near the Indian restaurant over there (Ganesh). Actually the girls were not good. The owners are the sisters who used to own Two Sisters bar. That one was actually very good right before it was shut down, with a few hot young things in there, and a good attitude in the bar, you could really have some sleazy fun right there before heading off to a hotel with her. One of the sister owners asked me to let people know about their bar, and she said next week they will get new girls in. I guess she realizes that her current group is not very good. If her promise comes true, then it could be a good place. But if the talent doesn't pick up, then I think this place and the rest are doomed.

I went into the Lounge bar that is where Bar 49 used to be. It was similar with about 7 girls, none attractive. Not girls, because they all seemed to be 30's or so, or late 20's at the youngest.

It makes me wonder if the police told them they could stay open only if they don't get attractive girls to work there.

I'm on this board doing research for my current Taiwan trip but since I'll be in HCMC in a couple days I decided to write this post since I never see any mention of it on here. The last time I was there was last year so I'm doing this by memory and I don't remember the exact prices. Basically on the second floor of the Vien Dong Hotel on PNL there's a spa that gives HJ. I think it was 200 k-300 k for an hour massage but don't quote me on it. I usually tip around the same price as the massage. I've never seen foreigners in here so I'm not sure if it's a local only place. I do all my communications here in Vietnamese.

Basically, when you go up to the second floor the receptionist table is right there. Usually they'll try to sell you the VIP room which includes a shower, sauna, and TV in the room. I've gotten the VIP room a couple times and tried to ask the girl if there was any "extra" in the VIP room but so far I've only gotten the answer that it just includes the shower, sauna, etc. If you don't get the VIP room they'll lead you to a locker room where you undress and put your close in, there's also a plastic bag where you can put your phone and wallet in to take with you, you'll also take the locker key with you. While in the locker room the helper guy will ask you if you're looking for a specific number or if you don't have a number then he'll ask you what kind of girl you want. Next you'll head to the shower area which has curtains, there's also a jacuzzi I think. The next part is a little fuzzy for me since I got the VIP room the last couple times but I think near the shower area there will be a guy that hands you your shorts and robe. After that you'll be lead to your room some how, sorry I forgot the exact details here. Next part is typical, the girl comes in and gives you a massage then finish you off with a HJ.

I usually like coming here because of the convenient location and every girl I've gotten so far have been pretty cute. I usually get the girl's number and text her the next time I want to come to make sure she's available. The last time I was there I was able to talk the girl into agreeing to come to my hotel and stay the night for $200. She was pretty hot so I just threw a number at her to see if she agreed. However, to spend the night she had to ask time off of work and the only day she could do it that week was Friday night. Originally, that this was okay because I thought I was flying out Sunday morning but it turned out I was flying out Saturday morning so I had to cancel the appointment. I was hoping to hit her up again this coming trip but my phone got reset so I lost all my text messages so I don't know who's number is who among my contacts from that place.

I went around that area last night. The bar on Dong Du is gone, it is being gutted now. No big loss there.

In the spot where 49 Bar was before, there is now a new "lady bar" called Lounge The High. Strange name, I know. Inside, the place looks fresh and classier than most of the old HBT bars were, but the girls sure did not. Definitely the older and less attractive type at this place, some faces that seemed familiar from bars from days gone by. Also the young bartender was previously the bartender at 91, and I think at Thien Loc before that. And she's not "available". The place looks very new, and so there's hope yet, if they get some new girls in.

Across the street and down an alley was another brand new bar called "Ly Ly", and it's similar to Lounge the High where it's brand new and with some older veteran girls working there. They told me they would be getting new girls in next week.

I looked in at a few other places, including Thien Loc, 29 Dong Khoi and Smile Bar, and none of them looked like they had any young attractive ones. Sometimes when bars close, girls shift to the new ones and you can see nice ones in some formerly bad bars. Not this time. All bad, so far.

I was told by one girl that the bar formerly known as Bin Bin is "gone forever".

I wasn't surprised to see this thread start to lose activity. Afterall, the bars in Saigon aren't quite what they used to be. But still, I hoped times would suddenly change in our favor. The magical day someone posts 91 has re-opened! Sadly I don't see that happening but a man can still dream.

Wendella summed it up for me with the "warm-up". There's something about going to a familiar bar, ordering a drink, and anticipating the attention from multiple girls. Whether this attention is genuinely warm (usually followed by lots of touching and kissing) or business-like, you still walked into the bar knowing you had options. And soon, that option would be decided based on which girl convincingly seduces you right there in the bar. Some may argue Apocalypse Now has a plethora of tits, asses, holes, etc. But I personally seek a little more "connection" via instant attraction, which I haven't found at Apo in years. While I've seen one or two gems at Apo, the ratio wasn't favorable enough for me to continue going there, especially when bars like 91 were booming.

Today, it seems like you need lots of cash to even get in the mood to step into a bar and expect a "good time". But I find this challenging, in a positive way. The HBT scene made me somewhat lazy and I knew I had to fix my mentality or else I would start to loathe this city. I once met a girl at Apo around 12 am. It was too early in the night to "pick her" but she was attractive enough to game. Once eye contact was established, I walked towards her. She asked me the generic questions: where I'm from, where I'm staying, are you here on business or holiday, etc. She then mentions money before her name. I immediately go cold on her and begin shifting my attention to other girls. I wasn't trying to make her jealous. I was trying to show her I'm a fun guy and I just lost interest in her. In doing so, I hoped she would slowly become attracted to me. I played random drinking games with a few girls and tossed around a few lame jokes just to get a laugh. Every once in a while I looked over to see if she was watching. On any other night, I would've been drunk in an hour and probably give in to her initial offer. But on this particular night, I was short on cash which luckily affected my drinking habits. I was sober enough to gauge her reaction and every once in a while, even throw a smile or wink in her direction. Naturally, she flirted with other customers but at some point, she would eventually realize she was either going home alone or have a second chance with me. Shortly after, I stood across from her at a table and waited for her to strike up a conversation. She looks in my direction and laughs, but doesn't say a word. I stand firm and wait for her to earn my attention. She makes a pouty gesture with her lips which I thought was cute. Then she starts talking money again. Once a hoe always a hoe. I respond with "I only have half that amount, I'm leaving right now. Meet me outside". I've tried this many times. When it failed, I simply got in a cab and went to a different bar. But this time it worked. And in the cab ride, she let me play with her tits which brought back lots of memories of HBT, particularly 35, 49, and 51.

First of all, many thanks to Wandella for his contributions to the sport in Saigon! Especially the guidance posted 05 Mar 15 and subsequent post yesterday (01 Aug) for which I received with assurance and sadness. . and you know what they say, 'Everything after Bangkok is a disappointment' - I thought I had just been spoilt and lost the mongering touch!

The bars are indeed a disappointment if one wants a quick and assured takeaway. Saigon is not that place (except for Apocalypse Now). It looks as though the girls in bars such as '5', 'The Office', 'Voodoo' are students (with a few sweeties) and 'rinsers' (London term for rinsing the cash out of your wallet) where one would have to invest the time and energy to establish a 'relationship' before any pink is availed.

Apolypse Now always has a few diamonds in the rough. I frequent every weekend and see the same-same faces, a few new faces and the usual entourage of 'hippo-crock-pig' expats and grungy backpacker things. Even the prettier Vietnamese girls, the diamonds in the rough, who have exploited my male weaker side (ie. Accompanied me in the past and allowed me to continue with my addiction to the game!) seem to come back for more. Even staking claim to me being 'their customer' and friend and getting a little spikey when I turn them down in favour of a new girl. The diamonds are pushing the envelope and ask for $200! A few, the real lookers, when compared to the other markets (Abu Dhabi, London) are certainly worth it. But, you can see the trend. The asking price is being pushed up due to 'supply and demand' as there are only a handful of real winners and far too many 'also rans'. Even some of the 'also rans' are trying it on for $200! Except for the real lookers, the also rans are usually gratefully the $100 offered after a little huffing and puffing.

How I wish I had visited Saigon when there were the bars Wandella alluded to in his posts. Ah well, it is what it is!
