I'll be in BKK in a few weeks and was interested in some of the girls from certain escort agencies (specifically xclusive thai). Problem is, some of the girls have "no Indian clients" written in their description. I'm assuming this is to deter hagglers, which Indians are (maybe rightfully so) infamous for.

I'm American but ethnically I'm Indian / brown. So do the "no Indian clients" disclaimers apply to me? I want to assume this is just for people that are actually from / born in India. I'm well dressed, have good hygiene, and definitely not cheap; but I'm wondering if this more than a culture issue, and if they just don't like brown guys.

The most common complaint from these girls (about Indians) is body odor.

If an agency does create a fuss, just call another agency. There are so many choices.

Too much cologne or perfume, an actual overdose of cheap cologne or perfume is a big problem with some middle eastern people. I have sometimes stay at the Fraser Hotel on Soi 11. The 1 bedroom apartments are huge and very reasonably priced and I also enjoy being on Soi 11. But the Fraser happens to have a lot of Middle Eastern guests. It is really quite amazing when certain Muslim women, especially the fully covered older ones, get off the elevator. Believe me, you don't want to get on the elevator after they disembark because it stinks so bad. My Thai girls and I laugh about it. It is a clash of cultures to be sure. Many Middle Eastern Muslim men over indulge in the cheap cologne too, but not nearly as much as those fat women. Thai girls do not like it.

So smell clean, smell fresh, and don't reek of cologne is my tip of the month to our fellow Middle Eastern Muslim punters.

JPD, with there being so many girls in BKK, there is no reason to focus on the girls with an Indian prejudice even if you are not Indian-Indian, but rather of Indian-American heritage. Forget them girls and concentrate on the girls that WANT to spend time with you. The girls that think you are a handsome man. 555. They are the ones that will show you a great time and I promise you that there will be no shortage of those girls. So, I suggest you concentrate on the Go Go's, massage parlors, and bars. You will be able to tell right away if a girl wants to be with you or not. Then your only decision will be who You want to be with.

Note: there are a few Go Go's with anti-Indian attitudes. The old Rainbow 4 bar policy was no Indians, but I believe most Go Go's do not bar anyone from entering. Perhaps another BM can list the Go Go's that discriminate. Just move on to the next Go Go if you are barred from entry at any one particular joint and DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONALLY. We all get discriminated against once in a while in the big Mango. Read the posts on Thermae for example.

Thailand was never very difficult. It's places like Indonesia where the internet has made a huge difference. My first trip to Bangkok was prior to the internet. I got laid within 2 hours of checking into my hotel my first trip to Bangkok even though I knew nothing about the surroundings prior to arriving. And I got laid multiple times daily, every day after that. Indonesia was much more difficult. It took me 2 months to figure out places to go. But after I figured out the places to go, it was awesome. We used to say in Jakarta that it was the world's best kept secret. And it was. Not anymore.

Back in the day, before the ISG, before the internet, before personal computers, before HIV; travel equaled adventure and it was more fun then or maybe I was just "Golden" like Pony Boy in the "Outsiders. " Anyway, back then we had word of mouth or the grapevine. That was our major source of travel information and while you were on the road you would meet people with similar tastes and of somewhat similar economic social backgrounds as yourself from various countries around the world, all western ha ha, and talk about your varied travel experences, swap stories, and what not.

For example, I first heard about Phuket in 1972 from two Dutch girls on a beautiful beach in Cahuita, Costa Rica. The girls told me that if I liked Cahuita I would love Phuket where they had rented a thatched roof beach bungalow for $4/ night and smoked Thai Stick all night long. I see people overthinking, making too much planning, setting a "minute by minute agenda" for their first visit to LOS.

Absolutely true, Come to think of it when most of us started visiting LOS several years ago (decades?) there was no such "guide" for LOS. There were mobile phones but mostly for calls and texts. My guess is they will be the dominant economy in SE Asia sooner than most folks think. They are moving forward. Contrary to what many of my fellow 'Mericans thin; central planning works. China and 'Nam would not be where they are now without it.

I agree. I worked in Hanoi for approximately 6 months, and was impressed greatly by the professionalism, knowledge and openness of those with whom I worked in the Ministry of Public Works. Not only were they open to new ideas; they were eager to acquire additional skills and knowledge. I don't think VN will eclipse Singapore anytime in the near future, but it's going to out perform Thailand and the Philippines–if it isn't already doing so–and I predict its economy will eventually become the second most robust of the ASEAN countries within the next decade.

In Cowboy last night for the first time in a couple of months. Sat outside one of the bars with some friends and observed the comings and goings. It's kind of over for the Western man in the BKK P4 P scene. Our ilk is dwarfed in numbers by Japanese, Koreans, Indians, and UEOs (people of unknown ethnic origin). Asian dudes are and will dictate the scene when it comes to performance and cost. The former and the latter will not be to most of our liking. And there is absolutely nothing we can do about. Life moves on. It was certainly a joy to be able to experience the end of the Golden Era here and in places like 'Nom Penh.

Where to go? Well many of my stateside friends are keeping it in their hemisphere. Hitting Mexico for a short trip and Central and S America on longer trips. Places with unrest and poor economies are always good for the monger. I would imagine for those with stones Venezuela would be pretty good at the moment.

For those of us who are settled here; well, we will have to settle for the current situation.

I agree with you, after having worked in both Hanoi and HCM City in support of the VN education sector for 6 months during 2014.

I expect VN's performance will be even better in the PISA results that will be gathered in 2018. I was dumb-founded by the standard and quality of the system when I worked there, and they were so receptive to new and innovative ideas too. Their problem is to get more people into formal education. So far, participation levels are relatively poor.

One of the Deputy-Directors in the Ministry told me their long-term goal was to be better in English proficiency than the Philippines by 2020, and so far English competencies are being phased-in across primary and secondary schools.

I arrived last week and wanted a quick release after not having sex for quite a long time.
