So is the actual exchange rate better than the ATM rate with brand new $ 100 USD bills.

No. From my recent experiences in Thailand, the ATM (exclusive of fees) will always be slightly better.

The only exceptions I've noticed will be at some places in Vietnam, and the black market in Seoul (it should still be in Namdaemun). The new US hundred bills will get a better rate in those places.

That has happened to me numerous times, in both Thailand and the Phil. I learned, over the years, to just move on to the next one. In the rare case where it is someone that I just got to have, then I start offering more money. That has always worked for me.

Drawing cash at the ATM will be 3-5% (depending on your bank fees) worse than changing cash at a good money changer. The Thai banks money changing outlets do not offer the best money exchange rates. Especially at the airport arrival area the rates are really bad. The best money changer which is trustworthy and has the best money exchange rates is Superrich. The have many outlets across BKK. ATM rate with Schwab seems to be better, if the Schwab fees rebate uses same rate at time of withdrawal. Its been about 15 baht fee, compared to like 21 baht lowest I seen on the kiosk but avg about 30.

It's been reported on some forums that some Soi Cowboy bars are pulling ladydrink rip-offs, with overpriced lady drinks, NOT the ones you think you're ordering, multiple lady drinks when you meant one, and other rips. Preventive measures detailed here:

Yes it was Afterskool a few times, but even better / sleazier was Fannie's right next door. In fact way more than just a BJ was on offer there and I partook many times. I was a regular at Fannie's for many years, never had very hot girls but I always had a blast as anything goes in there. The past 5 years or so (even before covid) it went way downhill, started hiring the dreaded coyotes and was just terrible. I also went a lot to fannie's sister bars Moonshine and Jungle Jim. Toy Bar is the other but was never as permissive as the other 3.

I know I've had my bin padded in some Soi Cowboy bars that I won't mention as it was awhile ago and I don't have firm proof. And yeah the girls want to order a tequila coke which is not a single drink but a shot and a side coke which they sip (or drink fast), so you get double billed. I'd allow it sometimes but tried to keep it in check. The deal was the 2 girls with me and my primary girl would give us cover for activities on the couch. I always just took it as the cost of the fun, as I know it was just part of the game. I know I didn't have to buy all the drinks, but I had fun and was a regular back then.

Showing my age, Patpong, a LONG time ago, was notorious for it's upstairs' bars shows, displaying the various utilities that a vagina could be used for, shooting, writing, drinking ... Back then, caution had to be used as some bars were notorious for MAJOR rip-offs. Solution given to me was to pull a bg from Nana have her be my bodyguard. It worked. I vaguely remember recently reading somewhere about some rip-offs having reappeared.

I haven't been to Patpong since covid, but for me it improved a lot over when it was really bad maybe 10+ years ago. I liked SOL and that I think was the craziest bar there, I walked in on a lot of guys getting BJs right in the open and even one guy doing the deed with a girl right at the bar. There was a girl named rabbit who was notorious there, but damn I guess that was like 15 years ago. I have a trip next month, can anyone tell me their opinion of how Patpong is now?

As for choosing the girl, sometimes I go after the hottest girl but it rarely works out. If I'm getting a lukewarm vibe or even just some instinctual sense that she's not that interested I pass. I've made some bad choices but for me the key is to trust my instincts while we're hanging out over drinks, before the subject of BF is brought up. I don't bat 1. 000 but I do fairly good taking the ones who are having fun with me and give off a good vibe that they're interested in my company. And yeah it's rarely the hottest girl in the bar unless it's a small place.

As for girls that won't go I did say all girls go but yeah that's wrong as more and more it seems the number that won't increases. There are the dreaded coyote girls who are there just for eye candy and to lure in customers. If I suspect that's what they are, I ask right off "do you go with customer?" before buying the first drink. I never want to waste time sitting with a coyote where the best outcome is to get her LINE and overpay for her when she gets off work. Then there's also the drink girls in some go gos, like Sapphire in Pattaya which comes to mind as I go there a lot.

Anyway, love your mentioning of things from the past. I'm not one to say things were better back whenever in the past, things just evolve. Still every time I go, even my trips during the middle of covid when almost everything was shut, are fun. I'll be back late next month and coming with a good friend who's never been there. It's fun to me to show someone new around, the feeling of awe and wonder from them makes me remember wayyyyy back when Thailand was new to me.
