    (1) The US Stock market did drop for 1 or 2 days after Trump was elected. It then recovered quickly.

    (2) Most Wall Street pundits and Market gurus had made this prediction. All the TV Channels reported this story: CNBC, Bloomberg etc. It was not just CNN.

Yes Thai Baht did not go anywhere much since 2007. Down and up a bit. 1997 and before, the Thai baht was virtually pegged to about 25 Baht to the dollar (US).

45 Baht to the dollar in 2001 was not likely to last.

I was here 1991. Girls were very cheap then despite the weaker exchange rate. The massive exchange rate jump may have been a factor in the rises going up so much from late 90's onwards, plus the bad economy. The Japanese and the tourists could simply afford to pay much more than they used to, with better exchange rates.

I have yet to see or have a Thai gal (and this is in my 20 years here), whose looks and service are worth over 100 USD to me. Sorry, it's just not.

Since the liberal media is also against Brexit, the effects it will have are likely also overblown by the media.

Almost true. Taxis are still so cheap that one can use them every day, and you can eat wisely healthier Thai market food very cheaply (without doing Maccas or KFC). I even know of Vegetarian food stands. You can also rent a room by the month cheaply. So its the sex that is getting expensive really. Clothes and shoes should still be priced okay.

Imported goods have ridiculous prices. The middle man agents make big money for doing nothing. King Power Duty Free is a rip off too. I don't buy from them any more.

Thais make so much less money than Farangs, for the lower classes. Its hard to understand how they can afford to buy their car and fill with petrol. Huge gap between the rich and poor here.

The Thai baht was even stronger when I first came here so it has merely recovered somewhat after bad economic times spread over 30 years and including world economy crises. When is the next one?

Would I spend $50 to $100 extra each day on a more fancy food and hotel or on sex? I would not waste it on the Hotel and food, personally. Priorities! Rebalance required caused by rising cost of mongering, and monger less frequently.

You can still get a really cheap fuck for street girls on Soi 4, 1000 to 1500 Baht. There are still guys there trying to negotiate for less than 1 K. The better girls are not interested at all, and won't even take 1 K. You get what you pay for to a certain extent. I found my best performing Soi 4 girl ever, recently. She recognises she can get repeat business for a good fee and a good time. Maybe she is smarter (and prettier) than most.

The better girls in Thermae may cost 3 K, not sure if that includes a Farang surcharge or not. Probably does. Some are clearly not worth it. There may be cheaper girls too. I have struggled to get a really good performance from any really good looking girl (preferably natural) from the Thermae recently. So I am clearly picking the wrong ones. So Thermae is a waste of time and money for me (not like the old days when the girls performed great all night). I do better with gogo bar girls, if in the right venues and make a good choice. However cost is high. Maybe better value if can find a gogo girl to go all night. It is hard to rationalise the cost of gogo girls any more, unless they are magnificent performers. Can see them privately to cut out the BF and drinks costs. Is the bar itself entertaining enough to be worth a visit? Mostly I am going to find special girls. That is all. Not a great place to chat to a buddy.

MP shops can still offer good value for money if can find the girl that works for you. Prices there rose so little in over 10 years. Standard therefore declined. Girls have to do a lot of fucking to make good money.

    Except the prices!

It's the #1 tourist city destination in the world.

I believe 20 million per annum?

That is never going to be good for prices.

Cost wise Bangkok is a tale of two cities.

If you want to eat at high end restaurants, have your latte at Starbucks, wear branded clothing and use top spas its no cheaper than other capitals in developed countries.

If your standard is cheap accommodation, street food, clothes from Platinum Mall or Big see and a massage almost anywhere then it's relatively inexpensive.

As mentioned shifting exchange rates play a big part when making comparisons.

Freudian spelling of Bangkok. I have not had a Thai girl offer me her ass for years, but I did not specifically request it, nor go to the right places often enough. Common for LBs I guess. Ha ha.

Not common except at specific pornstar type Oily massage shops. If you read that thread you should know which MPs.

Pretty common. And no need for extra bhat. Just pre-negotiate. I think the short term going rate is 1500 B.

No one should have expected the trajectory of the stock market or the USA Economy in general to change in any meanigful way from where they were already going on the occasions of the election or the inauguration of a president. Heading up or down, neither has ever done so on those occasions throughout history. The election and inauguration of the current president was no exception. The trajectory of both essentially continued doing what they had been doing since mid 2009.

However, the trajectory of both can and often does change in meaningful ways after that administration's first major economic legislation is passed. Typically, the stock market (let's call that Wall Street) makes a move rather quickly after passage because that is forward looking, essentially making a bet on where the general economy (let's call that Main Street) will go based on what is in the legislation. Look for Main Street to make its move in terms of increased or reduced inventory, hiring or firing, etc a while later, after the provisions in the legislation begin to hit the ground.

On that count, the USA Stock market has not increased much at all since late December 2017 when the current administration's first major economic legislation was passed compared with what it had been doing in previous years. There certainly hasn't been any skyrocketing in evidence since any of the forementioned occasions.

In some meaningful ways, such as private sector jobs creation, Main Street is producing less well than in recent previous years. Real annual GDP might have ticked up a percentage point since then, likely the result of an additional $700 Billion in military spending and a $1.5 Trillion sugar high jolt in disproportionately large corporate and top marginal income bracket tax cuts.

So too might be the case with Brexit, nobody knows. There might be an immediate temporary move one way or another that settles in to a much longer term trend once due diligence has been done on its likely real world longer term impact.
