Someone please explain to me why they love Bangkok?

Are you an older gentleman and massages / escorts are your thing?

Are you a straight monger that can't get sex on a normal basis from at least decent looking women back home?

Or, do you live here permanently and have the time to uncover and polish the gems?

Staying anything less than a few months here, and it is a sh*t show IHMO.

So many games, straight up con people, and fake smiles. Not to include what I feel is outright prejudices towards Blacks regardless how you present yourself. I'll be in Thailand for at least another 3 weeks and I can't wait to leave Bangkok this morning. I couldn't even sleep well during the night I was soo pissed that I allowed myself to be jerked around on Soi Cowboy last night. I should have known better. Don't remember the bar, but it is either next to or two doors down from Suzy Wongs. I only got sucked in because NOTHING was looking alluring enough to pay stupid prices and a real cutie SEEMED interested enough that just maybe she'll barfine. If not, no biggie. I'll have a couple drinks with her and bounce. I didn't care to spend a little change for small time chatting and BS'and with a hot young thang.

Each time it was "2" drinks for her. Long story short, I burned $100 in record time. That shock came when I felt barfining here was not an option and asked for the bill. Prices were insane and she said something to the effect that she does not do that. I would have been ok spending half of that, but the quick work to drive the bar tab up left a very bad taste in my mouth. Soi Cowboy will NEVER get one dime from me. It's my first time during this week that I asked about the barfine and then get rejected in a sense.

Strange, must be a Thai custom. I've never been a resident here, but 30 years visiting, BKK does feel familiar. I still know how to get around, the public transportation system has grown amazingly, and I find the changes (mostly) interesting. The city is alive, the food is fantastic (though I can't see coming to Thailand and NOT always eating Thai food). And look at it this way, you made some lady happy, so why so selfish? Sanuk. Some things I don't like: Dunkin Donuts no longer sells the chocolate Bavarian, SOL seems to have closed, Bier Garden is a shell of itself, and Viva 26 bar at Chatachak is GONE. And these days, I think if you come here SOLELY for the gogo scene, you will be disappointed, especially if you're familiar with, as Goatscot says, 25 years ago. As the Thais say, "same, same, but different". Plenty of things to see up-country, history, temples, and all. BKK is a good jumping off point for other countries, though Myanmar seems to me no-go right now. But Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, VietNam (still have to check out the 'Nastyland one of my trips).

My solution: go get a salt tapping at Sakura Akasuri up on Soi 55, step over to Foodland's Took Lae Dee restaurant a couple blocks further down, sit at the counter, have a decent Thai meal and watch the chefs working, then walk a couple more blocks down to &Ampersand on the corner of 55 and soi 13, for some FANTASTIC gelato (OK, so much for my ONLY Thai food, I'm NOT a fanatic). Hey, it's ice cream, who doesn't like ice cream?

I spent a month there and had a great time. Well mostly; at least you haven't caught Covid ....

Join the club. I am not black, more like off white. Bangkok never worked for me. It didn't before Covid and it doesn't now. I speak some Thai and I even tried the Bangkok online Thai website (don't remember the website name, someting beginning wit "fw" I think). That is ok if you book online but if you are a walk in and want to see a girl, like I did it is not acceptable. I am an older gentleman, almost 70, medium build and height white guy. Honestly, I know very few if any long-term residents who fish in the Nana area. About the only time I go there is to eat Arab food on Soi 3/1, and even then the area is a bit hard to take. Oh, it was pretty amazing a quarter of a century ago and the Go-Go's and Street scene along with thermae and Nana disco were absolutely off the charts wonderful. I haven't ventured inside a go-go bar in ages and have no plans to do so. But for the local that speaks a little bit of the language and has the patience for the online scene there are some incredible gems out there for about the same price if not a little bit more than we were paying in 2000.

I can certainly understand why the draw for the p4 p tourist is not so great, but for those that live here, it's pretty incredible.

In terms of P4P, however, I would still say that there are plenty of options for the visiting tourist; depending on your preferences the proliferation of Massage Parlours for example certainly provides plenty of easily accessible opportunities. Not a complete loss, walked back out and jumped back on the BTS to Patpong to do my own cream filling.

Curious, which Soi was Happiness on? Soi 23? For a good, legit massage in the Ekkamai area, try Soi 55's Yama Herbal Massage, less than a 100 M from Thong Lo BTS station, left hand side as you're walking away from Sukhumvit. The draw? Well, as ia two decades plus resident I'll tell you the city does have a lot of draws. It's incredibly vibrant, has many varied and interesting neighborhoods, more fantastic restaurants and food stalls then you could eat at for the rest of your life, a fairly good public transportation system, an affordable cost of living, and for dudes that live here a very good gal scene. Honestly, I know very few if any long-term residents who fish in the Nana area. About the only time I go there is to eat Arab food on Soi 3/1, and even then the area is a bit hard to take. Oh, it was pretty amazing a quarter of a century ago and the Go-Go's and Street scene along with thermae and Nana disco were absolutely off the charts wonderful. I haven't ventured inside a go-go bar in ages and have no plans to do so. But for the local that speaks a little bit of the language and has the patience for the online scene there are some incredible gems out there for about the same price if not a little bit more than we were paying in 2000.

I can certainly understand why the draw for the p4 p tourist is not so great, but for those that live here, it's pretty incredible.

Short little report from a admittedly green and undoubtedly dumb newbie here in BKK. Staying at JW Marriott right near Nana.
