The level of antibodies and therefore protection from serious illness seemingly does decline round about 6 months after initial full vaccination, hence the importance of the booster. Whether you are also more likely to become infected and more likely to transmit as far as I can tell is still not fully understood but true or not it's a common belief in Thailand that Sinovac loses on both scores within 6 months.

Personally while I enjoy the pub scene I would be loath to risk getting a positive from a cheap antigen test and get hauled off to god only knows where and probably even he doesn't know how it could end up.

Vaccination can prevent infection by up to 10%. So, yeah, ensuring customers are current on their vaccination can reduce potential infections.

In order to get in to Khaosan Road you must be fully vaccinated. Check. If your vaccine is over 6 months old you will pay 100 baht to take a swab test and wait there for the test results before you can enter Khaosan Road. HUH? WHAT? If you test positive for COVID you go directly to the hospital for I assume 10 days quarantine by an ambulance waiting on site to take you. WORTH THE RISK! NOT! Sure sounds like they really want to be rid of the "non-wealthy" backpackers who go to KSR..

There are basically no backpackers right now LOL. KSR has been trending Thai for years and now is much more of a Thai hangout spot than one for farang.

Totally agree not worth the risk if you're farang though, even if its a 1/1000 chance that you have covid and are symptomatic that 2 week mandatory hospital stay will cost you.

It is definitely setup like what is written above. I have not been there yet but I know a couple of girls that went there and they showed their Thai vax certificates and went right in. Apparently once inside the bars have been redone to qualify as restaurants and it is party central just like pre covid. Alcohol is flowing freely and social distancing etc all but ignored. The alcohol gets turned off officially at 9 pm but drinks are still served for an extra hour or so in thinly disguised cups or can cokes etc.

I haven't been there myself since the November 1 or whenever "re-opening" yet either but a farang friend and his Thai girlfriend went there a few nights ago and said they were required to scan a QR code on their phone, show proof of vaccine, which in their case would have been several months old, and got some kind of ink stamp on their arm apparently to show at every bar. Unlike me, they are drinkers but said not many places were open and it was pretty dead.

But, as we have learned, crowd levels, requirements for bar openings and entry can change by the night or hour in the various Bangkok jurisdictions.

About 2 weeks ago a couple of Sukhumvit Soi 4 bars required customers to scan a QR code on their phone and show their proof of vaccination certificate in order to enter. That lasted 1 night before it was dropped.

I do notice the police turn up at soi 11 and soi 7 around 9 or 10 on most nights. I guess they don't want the places to just go nuts and completely disregard the rules with drinking into the morning. A controlled braking of the rules seems to be in place.

Ironically when there was a curfew in Bangkok of 9 pm, the little curtain "restaurants" on soi 11 still operated after 9 pm. I was home by that time but could see patrons still thinning out to say 10 pm on most nights. There were even taxis and motobike taxis lined up to take the patrons home.

The last 30 days of the 9 pm curfew was definitely a "soft curfew" as opposed to the lock them up on the spot first curfews in 2020.

In thailand there are rules, but many are mere guidelines controlled but each area or province. Unless you come accross the wrong cop or really f**k up.
