Does your friend have a pair of cojones? Man, I think some travelers are bigger pussies than the ones they come to Thailand to chase.

I was in BKK over Songkran. 2009 (?) , when the whole red shirt thing blew up. The ongoing protests are nothing like those, and even then only a small fraction of the town was affected. Just avoid the protests, go about your business and don't get involved. You'll be fine.

    Bangkok loving it!

Guys business is as usual here in Bangkok. I have had some great times recently at Nana plaza. 3000 LT is what I have been paying. Usually the girl does not leave until after lunch the next day. I stay away from the rainbows and Barracas since the girls seem to only want ST for 2500. If you go to some of the smaller go go's in Nana and Soi cowboy you will find some gems for sure. Climax is still going strong with some great music and a good selection of FL's to chose from after midnight. Insomnia near Soi 12 has been renamed but I forget what the new name is very slow and boring now. Mixx club is also still going strong with about an average of 800 people or more each night with plenty of girls working. So don't listen to anyone who tells you to stay away because of the protests. It is the best time to be in BKK for a monger.

In a group of likewise stunning women their view of themselves starts competing against the others. And many guys just like to look, turning down stunners left and right. And when a girl is turned down in favor of another, doubts start to creep in. I imagine go-go bars are much like the fkk clubs. My preference is much different from the next guy, the girls I'm attracted to are usually a notch below stunner level but have the attributes I prefer. I rarely go for the girls who think too highly of themselves since service usually goes down as the looks go up. There's something to be said about grabbing an attractive girl after she's been turned down by ten guys.
Looks and service do not go hand in hand. I've known guys that won't pick the hottest chick for your exact reasoning. It's a false assumption. There are stunners with great service and stunners with lousy service. Just as there are average chicks with great service and some with lousy. Case in point. I was at a FKK once. I motto is to always pick the stunner all things being equal (pricewise). I did a stunner, great service. Later that night, I was watching this slightly above average girl (not stunner level) go with one guy after another. I had to have her. When she is alone, I go up to talk to her. She ignores me. The stunner chick walks over and says "hey, he's talking to you." The above average chick continues to ignore me. I tell the stunner,"fuck her, let's go." Like the saying goes. You won't know until you try!

Not sure I agree with this after having a colleague from Scotland come to Singapore. We were out drinking at Club Romeos in OT and he started chatting up a ladyboy. He was totally shocked as he couldn't pick that he / she wasn't a real women. This was also after we told him. That the in the bar the blonde Russian dancers are girls and the 6' 2" Thai's are ladyboys! Even sadder was that we went back the following night and he made the same mistake!

I think that's very true. For a few years now it's been quite fashionable among the middle classes to have a farang bf / husband. But of course it has to be a 'respectable' one, and the Thais are very quick (and usually pretty accurate) to judge such things on the basis of grooming, clothes, age etc.

It certainly wasn't that way here back when I was in my 20s and 30s. Thailand was a more conservative place and farang men were not viewed all that favorably. But I guess I ought to be grateful, as otherwise I might not have had all these years of interesting adventures in this hobby of ours.

So, maybe societal pressure isn't what it once was. Or maybe some women just learned to stand up to it.
I really don't think it is as bad as it was a decade ago. One of the reasons is there are so many foreigners here now, not to mention all the young ones.

I don't know about the other, but Hangover 2 absolutely ruined State Tower and SkyBar. The drinks were never very good, and way overpriced, but it was a nice place to hang out and admire the city. Now, post-movie, the place tends to be a madhouse. A bazillion tourists crowded around the bar paying $20 for a shitty cocktail and ooh-ing and ahh-ing about being in the same spot as Paul Giamatti (note the matte paintings in many of the scenes. A lot of it wasn't even shot in the bar).

Most of the younger guys I know here would never consider paying outright for sex. Strange.

I really didn't want my 1000th post to be be a niggling criticism of another poster. You actually wrote:

Nothing about tourists or sex tourists. Anyway, I'll agree with your last point. There may be some people wavering over their comfort zone, and perhaps some stories will put them off. Let's move on.

My OP (which was contained in ONE post) on the HANGOVER 2 issue in fact explicitly referred to a few years back and obviously is a minor issue relative to what is happening now.

As I've alluded to in probably a dozen posts. Bangkok tourism including sex tourism has been hit very hard by the political unrest, particularly as it concerns the convention business which I accurately referred to as having been "decimated" perhaps down 70% and not only are these often big spending types, but the decision to cancel some of these junkets it out of their hands, instead being made by corporate level risk managers. So its not likely to change anytime soon for that group.

Now individual mongers will adjust plans to some degree as they realize perhaps the risk (more bad news today of course) is worth taking, so might be a mitigating factor

'Well that would ruin my holiday. Honey, there is no way we are going there! '

I have friends who are off to Thailand next week and aren't bothered by the ongoing troubles, let alone a crap frat-pack movie.
