While I hyped up Patpong on my Bangkok visits before it was just downright bad on 2 visits this past week. Pink Panther was very quiet but had one nice smiley girl so had fun with her for a while. King's Castle 1 continues to be the busiest gogo bar there but absolutely none of the girls I liked from prior visits were there. King's Castle 2 was never really my thing but I was bored so bought a drink for the best one there since she started DFK'ing me before I bought her drink. Badabing was also very quiet. Can't find my super cute girl from my very first visit but I am a recognizable face there now so girls hang out with me for no drinks. My buddy refuses to go back to Black Pagoda so I didn't get to catch up with my beautiful Dao (sp?

I may visit again in a couple of weeks. I'm hoping I just hit Patpong on a poor week. We all know gogo bars can be great one day and bad the next or vice versa. The key is to hit many gogo bars and often and you will find your gems.

I think there were more girls sitting outside their KTV's on Thaniya Road than in all the gogo bars in Patpong. Thaniya Road is worth a look and you can try your luck with the girls even if you are not Japanese.

I was referring to distinguishing between races by sight alone.

I have lived permanently in Asia for more than 20 years (in Philippines) and of course I can usually tell where a person comes from come from when they speak, and that includes the 5 major dialects in the Philippines, but I bet that you cannot pick a filipino's place of origin without hearing them speak unless it is an extreme indigenous group (like Isaan people in Thailand or Igorot people in central Luzon).

Confuse a Japanese with a Korean or vice versa and you will seriously offend either one. Can you distinguish between various South Asians by sight (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi or even Sri Lankan?

When we visit Bangkok almost every Thai addresses my wife in Thai (she is filipina) and it amuses us. She must appear Thai to the locals. The same thing happens to the Japanese wife of a good friend of mine (British) when they are in Bkk. She is also mistaken for a Thai, and she creates enormous confusion because she speaks fluent Thai and is able to respond in Thai that she is Japanese.

You may have a particular skill in picking racial differences but the regular person-in-the-everyday-street obviously has a great deal of difficulty.

I can do most by sight. Most, not all. There are always some that throw you. To my eye Japanese, Koreans, and Chinese look quite different for the most part. Now, Indians, Pakistanis, etc. That is a different matter altogether. Would not have the same success rate.

Other than religion, there is no discernible difference either in look or mannerism between those. So it's a moot point.

However, there is a big difference between say Russian and British, or between Japanese and Chinese. They may look the same, but their mannerisms are different.

Most Thais would have no idea where a farang comes from, even after they have spoken with them. As a white caucasian, I have difficulty distinguishing races, and certainly cannot do it by sight alone.

Filipinos have no idea where I come from unless I tell them. Classic recent responses have been "Australia! Is that near America?" or "Australia! Is that same as English?

I suggest the racial profiling by Asians occurs at a very simple level and depends on whether skin is white, brown or black, and has little to do with where you come from.

Even with our strong Aussies accents the Thais had to ask we are we from and from there it was all about bloody kangaroos LOL. In Bali the Indos can pick accents miles away.

In south east asia, the people have less idea of nationality. One of my buddy is from India, speak fluent british accent and a bit whiter is 90% times considered as european.

Now this his pick up line guess me where m from. And he is always first one to get the chicks while we are still figuring out the possibility.

Seems many indians are having good time while others with lack of self esteem are complaining.

As some have pointed out, skin color does matter but the color of your money and the thickness of the stack is what ultimately counts. The chinese tourist will be a threat soon because the cost of pussy in their home country is going to rise with the crack downs and growing economy.

I have never even once had a Thai correctly guess which country (or even which continent) I am from. They just know I am a farang.

LOL. I wrote in another post how the people from the subcontinent are changing the demographics of guests in middle range hotels in the US and elsewhere. In some of the service apartments and rooms with kitchens, the smell of curry floats down of the hallways on weekends at places I have frequented for decades. The other Asians are their too but the instant noodles do not carry such strong oders. Heh heh

LOL. Very good post. Farangs are usually stereotyped in a positive way. I agree money is what it's all about. But etiquette is very important as well. And Body Odor is a deal killer. While many people love curry, most people do not want to smell it on you.

How much is the cheapest airfare from an Indian city to Bangkok?

Lets cut right to the heart of the problem. Its not the Indians in general but the class of Indians that are visiting. Lets blame the cheap airline fares and the super cheap rooms that allow 4 guys to a room. If airfare was as cheap as it is from India to Thailand all over the world you'd be talking about the trash being brought from all over the world. Raise the price of airfare and hotel restrictions on single guys to a room and the problem goes away.

I question whether most Thai shop owners or whoever was taking that poll would know the difference between Western Europeans, North Americans, Australians and Scandinavians. Can't tell you how many times I've told a Thai person I am from USA and they've said, "Europe?" I've told them California and they think that is somewhere in Australia. I think they would know the difference between Asian groups. But doubt they really know if the blonde couple standing in front of them is from Norway or Canada.

My final humorous point. There is so much negativity here when white guys strike out at thermae or get turned away from Japanese dominated places and comfort themeselves crying into their beers about east Asians being 3 minutes three inches and 3 k baht. That the world has changed and being white Caucasian is not as unique an advantage as before. The Chinese will arrive more and more with more money and they will steal the top notch girls that the white guys desire. So I smile, raise my glass to those who try to rationalize their own inherent dislike of Indians based on anecdotes and say enjoy your world, I'll enjoy mine.
