I'm well dressed, have good hygiene, and definitely not cheap; but I'm wondering if this more than a culture issue, and if they just don't like brown guys.

Virtually all older western people have odours ranging from almost undetectable to very strong (the guys that really stink). Many of these guys are in denial. They just don't know the exact extend of their body odours. Many Thais have noses that can detect odours that we might miss..

It has been my experience certainly with women that Asians have much less body odor than European, Slavic, Scandinavian, Middle Eastern, or African peoples. Now this is anecdotal, since my sample size is just a few hundred, but still. One of the reasons (among many) that I prefer Asian women is they just smell (and taste) better than other ethnicities (to me, YMMV). It is only partially due to the much more frequent showering that certainly Thais engage in, but also it seems most other East Asians as well. Even when sweaty and unwashed, there is just much less smell, and what there is tends to be much less pungent and offensive.

These are guys quite willing to part with money buying drinks for their favourites. Probably not on tight budgets.

Cowboy is becoming dominated by Asian customers and any Farangs willing to spend more money. If on a budget, forget it.

You are quite right that the price of spending time at Cowboy has got too expensive for most expats.

I have tried the daytime bars at Nana. It just does not work for me. Too much money and time get wasted without good enough returns sexually. Food is not good enough to warrant wasting money on it, generally, and I prefer more healthy oriented food. Some of us just want to get a good fuck and only socialise with girl long enough to see if chemistry is good enough that sex might be good fun. Not there due to boredom. Not there for socialising. LOL.

I don't understand why guys would go to Cowboy to see the other customers. I have never been the type to need a wingman. Some of us, like Natty Bumpo and myself preferred the company of sexy girls over other mongers with a very different mindset to our own. Cowboy is not the place to go chatting with buddies unless you are at an outside bar. The music is too loud for starters. I can chat with some bargirls in Thai, the ones that have clear diction. Billboard in Nana seems to attract groups of Indians who like to party together in the bar like they own the place. This only detracts from the bar for me, since I prefer a quieter atmosphere with less action in the customer area. It seems that the majority of the guys on this board are what I would term "lone mongers. " And I understand that the wants and needs of the lone monger are very different than that of the resident. For us the bar scene was almost as much about the camaraderie with other expats as it was about the gals. We live or lived here so could get a gal at anytime. There was absolutely no urgency. The most common complaint from these girls (about Indians) is body odor.
If you are clean (i.e. no body odor) and pay the agreed amount, you should have no problem.
If an agency does create a fuss, just call another agency. There are so many choices.

Regardless of your nationality, if you treat the girl well and tip for good service, these girls will want you to be their client.

In Cowboy last night for the first time in a couple of months. Sat outside one of the bars with some friends and observed the comings and goings. It's kind of over for the Western man in the BKK P4 P scene. Our ilk is dwarfed in numbers by Japanese, Koreans, Indians, and UEOs (people of unknown ethnic origin). Asian dudes are and will dictate the scene when it comes to performance and cost. The former and the latter will not be to most of our liking. And there is absolutely nothing we can do about. Life moves on. It was certainly a joy to be able to experience the end of the Golden Era here and in places like 'Nom Penh.

Where to go? Well many of my stateside friends are keeping it in their hemisphere. Hitting Mexico for a short trip and Central and S America on longer trips. Places with unrest and poor economies are always good for the monger. I would imagine for those with stones Venezuela would be pretty good at the moment.

For those of us who are settled here; well, we will have to settle for the current situation.

In a queue for money exchange once, some Arabs came up behind me in the queue, and I just had to leave due to the acrid stench of their underarms (possibly un showered for the day or several days. I don't know). I don't like to stay in the same Hotel as middle eastern guests, purely because of the bad experiences of nearly being overcome by "fumes" in elevators, and thinking about holding my breath. Very sweaty Thai construction workers have so little odour in comparison when they have entered the same lift. Also I felt very out of place in Zenith hotel (Soi 3) years ago at breakfast. The middle eastern types appeared to stare at me and my lady at breakfast like we were lepers. She wasn't dressed sexy at all.

Yeah, Middle Eastern put it on thick. It makes me light headed when I smell it.

Here's my advice, take a hot young Thai to a fragrance store and have her pick out a scent for you. Tell her to pick something that all Thai people would like. She'll get something generic, but acceptable. Also, eat Thai food. It'll give your skin the same scent as the Thais.

Too much cologne or perfume, an actual overdose of cheap cologne or perfume is a big problem with some middle eastern people. I have sometimes stay at the Fraser Hotel on Soi 11. The 1 bedroom apartments are huge and very reasonably priced and I also enjoy being on Soi 11. But the Fraser happens to have a lot of Middle Eastern guests. It is really quite amazing when certain Muslim women, especially the fully covered older ones, get off the elevator. Believe me, you don't want to get on the elevator after they disembark because it stinks so bad. My Thai girls and I laugh about it. It is a clash of cultures to be sure. Many Middle Eastern Muslim men over indulge in the cheap cologne too, but not nearly as much as those fat women. Thai girls do not like it.

So smell clean, smell fresh, and don't reek of cologne is my tip of the month to our fellow Middle Eastern Muslim punters.

Don't really understand the need to use cologne unless you're trying to hide a smell. Cologne / perfume bother the hell out of me. I prefer women just smell like they came out of the shower.
