I think that in very complex situations, often the only way to resolve them without causing future problems or getting bogged down in unimportant minutiae is to accept the simplest solution. Of course getting bogged down in minutiae may be seen as preferable to some parties in some situations.

Thailand has, in fits and starts, two steps forward, one step back, made vast progress in the last thirty years. Everyone, from the farmer to the elite, is better off. The country is more secure, and the economy is stronger. Sure there are problems, the deep south, this current political imbroglio, and others come to mind, but the nation has and will continue to progress.

A Thai buddy took me to this restaraunt just outside of Pantanakhram a while back. If you go past the restrooms, there is a bar with a small fishbowl. Girls are Thai/Chinese with rooms above where you can negotiate a price. I did not partake; was with my Thai wife, and besides prefer Isaan ladys, ha!

Having studied Thai history, and followed its politics for some thirty years, fifteen of them married to a Thai woman whose family is involved in politics and who, off and on, hold elected positions at the local level, I thought I had aquired at least some tiny notion of what's going on there.
