Not sure if I could say it is dead in the evenings. But walking through it at Noon yesterday, I saw there were exactly two ladies sitting in there and maybe one male customer who was nowhere near either of them. Neither looked interesting to us. One was on her cellphone. The other waved and pointed to the barstool next to her when my friend and I walked by. We just nodded, smiled and walked back outside.

Bamboo Bar (Soi 3) - I think this also is dead, outside facade has totally converted into Middle Eastern food. There seems to be door for the bar in between still, but based on the looks of it- didn't even bother to go in.

So likely another one bites the dust, things do just change over time. Fond memories of past have to be put aside- I did have a couple good ones here.

Overall Soi3 has totally converted into Middle Eastern joint; and actually the Middle Eastern influence has significantly spread beyond Soi3 to Soi5 and beyond all the way to Soi11 (yes). Once upon a time Middle Eastern influence was strictly limited to Grace Hotel-Soi3 (that was 10 yrs ago) - and now it is what it is.

However, did not see any Middle Eastern hookers on the street as such, and actually even inside Grace Hotel Lobby- very different from past. Outside of Grace its the fat-chick HQ- nothing good.

While reading some news articles on happenings for the week, I came across the one about a drunk off-duty cop shooting an unfortunate French after a fist fight over a girl. Tragic. Did anyone here know this most unfortunate of gents?

And a question. Had it been you with your girlfriend / date for the night and some other drunk came along and misbehaved, what would you do? In the spur of the moment. Hindsight is always 20/20 vision, and its easy to say I will walk away and find another girl. Tough.

It sounds to me like the Thai guy was more ticked off about losing the fight in the bar and shot him for that instead of shooting him over the girl exactly. But that is just from the way it was reported on that site.

If your post is all the information, who as a foreigner gets in a fist fight, with a local, who is an armed policeman, on his own turf, "OVER A GIRL" in Tailand?

Should the Frenchman have walked away. The way it turned out obviously but what if she was his long time girlfriend, the timing 7. 17 AM would suggest otherwise. . Also no way of knowing he was a cop and armed, he was in civies. Most important though is to understand losing face is unacceptable for a Thai-man so a smile and a handshake and walking away is always your best policy.

Firstly you are never going to win an altercation against a local esp an armed cop. It will always be the foreigner in the wrong. Secondly, why would anyone argue over a girl in Thailand (unless it was his wife etc). Just move on to the next one.

I believe prevention is far better than a cure. If I'm with a serious GF or wife I don't go to places where I could accidentally stumble across a drunk homicidal cop. On foreign soil I definitely would not be getting into arguements with one with family present.

Call me a prick but if it was just a girl for the night I would just walk away the moment the situation became remotely aggressive. My presence would just make the situation worse for both me and her.

Your questions are like someone who has never read even one post of the BKK thread. Am I missing something?

For Bangkok, as etaoin said go to Nana and soi cowboy. One definite place not to miss is Thermae bar in the basement of the Ruamchit Plaza hotel. Go after 9 pm but not too late or it becomes as crowded as samya at 10 pm on a weekend night. Price is 2500 total with no barfine. If they ask for more they don't want to be with you. Another unique experience in Bangkok is a stroll through Thaniya Road where you will see 100's of better than average looking girls sitting on the road. Do a YouTube search.

For 2 days in pattaya concentrate on walking street and soi 6. Soi 6 from 4 to 8 pm. Walking street from 8 pm til 3 am. No need to deviate from the norm here in a short 2 day stay.

Do try a soapie in either pattaya or Bangkok. We all complain it's mechanical but it is interesting to visit once.

Stay in lower Sukhumvit. Visit Nana Plaza and Soi 4. Visit Soi Cowboy.

Pay less than you expect for your hotel. (Bangkok hotels are cheap by global standards.) Read the hotels thread. In general, if you're going to have a girl problem with a hotel, it will be at a more upscale place.

Dear all, I'll start my first trip to Bangkok late this months and I'm getting excited now! While searching the forum and other websites, I would be very happy to receive any tips from anyone of you here.

I used to frequent FKK when I was in Europe (so it's good to see some old friends here like Sir Syzygies), but I need to explore new land since I moved to Asia. For the moment I don't have anyone in real life here to consult or travel with, it's DIY all the way for my first trip, I'll stay 3 days in Bangkok and 2 days in pattaya..

It will help you to read a few of the different threads in this forum which will answer most questions, but I'm going to humor you a bit here, I'd rather be helpful, but please read through the forum!

3 days /2 days is fine, make sure to make time for sightseeing and such in Bangkok though. If its your first time though, you really can do everything in BKK instead of going to Pattaya, but Pattaya is close so its fine. There are bars all over town and Massage parlors all over town, but most of the recommended ones are fairly concentrated. Gogo's on Soi Cowboy and Nana Entertainment Plaza (soi 4). These would be the main and most popular, but not only, red light districts in the city. The "recommended" PSE massage parlors, especially for those new to the city such as Cherry, Addict, Mango, Snow White, Honey Bee, Bangkok Passion, and Tulip are all located fairly close to each other off Sukhumvit near BTS stations, google can find them all. The cost for one girl 1. 5-2 hrs in an MP is 2000-2500 baht, all inclusive. There's plenty of other places as well if you look through the forum, all around town.

For gogo bar girls (a gogo is similar to a strip club), you pay a "bar fine" to the establishment to take her (600-1000 baht) and then pay for the actual event, for Short time (ST) which is 1-2 hrs or Long Time (LT), longer, often overnight. ST can be 1500-2500, LT can be up to 5000 (but generally less), but there's lots of inbetween, and depends on the girl too. She will quote you a price, you can haggle if you'd like, its fine to, if not simply expected, but don't low ball. You can take these girls to your hotel, or for ST a specific ST room you rent by the hour. Look at the hotel thread for more hotel info.
