And the Western man has lost.

In Cowboy last night for the first time in a couple of months. Sat outside one of the bars with some friends and observed the comings and goings. It's kind of over for the Western man in the BKK P4 P scene. Our ilk is dwarfed in numbers by Japanese, Koreans, Indians, and UEOs (people of unknown ethnic origin). Asian dudes are and will dictate the scene when it comes to performance and cost. The former and the latter will not be to most of our liking. And there is absolutely nothing we can do about. Life moves on. It was certainly a joy to be able to experience the end of the Golden Era here and in places like 'Nom Penh.

Where to go? Well many of my stateside friends are keeping it in their hemisphere. Hitting Mexico for a short trip and Central and S America on longer trips. Places with unrest and poor economies are always good for the monger. I would imagine for those with stones Venezuela would be pretty good at the moment.

For those of us who are settled here; well, we will have to settle for the current situation.

I agree with you, after having worked in both Hanoi and HCM City in support of the VN education sector for 6 months during 2014.

I expect VN's performance will be even better in the PISA results that will be gathered in 2018. I was dumb-founded by the standard and quality of the system when I worked there, and they were so receptive to new and innovative ideas too. Their problem is to get more people into formal education. So far, participation levels are relatively poor.

One of the Deputy-Directors in the Ministry told me their long-term goal was to be better in English proficiency than the Philippines by 2020, and so far English competencies are being phased-in across primary and secondary schools.

My guess is they will be the dominant economy in SE Asia sooner than most folks think. They are moving forward. Contrary to what many of my fellow 'Mericans thin; central planning works. China and 'Nam would not be where they are now without it.

I arrived last week and wanted a quick release after not having sex for quite a long time. Most of the Filipinos who work for me speak ok but their grammar is very poor. Contrast this to educated Lao, Thai and Vietnamese who speak poorly, but whose grammar is very strong.

Back to my typical night out in the neighborhood: if by 11 pm I have not found Miss Right in the several Patpong bars I like to frequent, King's Castle 1 & 2, Badabing, and Electric Blue; then it is time to head to Spasso. At 11 pm on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night Spasso is usually going strong with plenty of FL's and unfortunately an almost equal number of sausages. Yes, it is a sausage fest. I don't know where these guys come from, but they are always there. Additionally, it is roughly a 50/50 split between NE Asians and Westerner sausages and some of these guys are wearing fucking sportscoats. Unbelievable! 70,000 THB is outstanding money for Thailand. I am currently paying people to work in my field 300 THB a day (lunch and water supplied). Bending over planting rice in the heat and humidity and working the land for 8-9 Hours a Day,6 days a week. 7,200 THB a month, however this work is not ongoing. They are very happy for the work and the amount they get. Mongers on here banging on about how Thailand is a robust economy and you need 120,000 THB a month to live comfortably? Quite frankly Sirs you have your heads up your asses.

I agree, the number of people earning 70 k a month or more you could probably count on an elephants trunk, especially outside of BKK.

I've some audio messages (sent over messenger) in Lao which I need to get translated into English to understand them. I tried Google translator but there is no speech input option for Lao language.

Is there somebody here who can help? May be somebody would be knowing the language. I would appreciate to any help!

If you have any Isaan or Lao contacts on any of your video chat services, they could help. You could also use google translate to request the sender, if literate, to write the content down, then you plug into translation app.
