Decent weather, weekend, high noon, went out to Chatuchak Market. A number of people, but NOT packed, so rather nice. Fun place to people watch and to pick up some gifts for the home folks. Couple of shops I've done business with for a time, some decades, always fun to see what new items they have. I do studiously avoid the pets section. And the one-size-fits-all T-shirts... they don't.

And, for YEARS, I'd always stop at Viva26, section 26, to rehydrate. However, last year it was gone, didn't survive Covid. But this year, happy to report another watering hole has formed in its spot, even expanding, La Rumba cafe (section 26, Soi 1/7). So anyone taking an intermission from the entertainment scene, after wandering around Chatuchak for a few hours, great place to take some refreshments and people watch. The Latin music seems a bit incongruous for the scene, but certainly BETTER than Christmas carols (long gone are the days where one could escape THOSE by visiting BKK.).

Couple of days ago, stopped by the Dunkin Donuts off of Sukhumvit, Soi 13. SMALL shop taking up a LITTLE space in an office building. Nowhere near the size nor the convenience of the one that used to be at the foot of the BTS escalator at Asok. Not much selection in the afternoon, but maybe the morning office workers had picked it clean. Today, post Chatuchak, looked up Dunkin Donuts on Silom. Quite convenient, directly off the Sky Train platform, turnstile level, 3rd floor of the golf center building, just head straight into the building on the short bridge from the BTS rather than down the stairs to Silom. Decent selection INCLUDING.... wait for it...wait for it... Bavarian cream. 8 for 100 baht.

I am now already in Bangkok, and as I am busy until next weekend I could meet and monger in the evenings during the week.

It is the current location of a hotel and located directly across from the Atlas Hotel, a reputed short time place on this Soi. Only recently, I discovered this Soi 7/1 was also used as a set for some of the Hangover 2 movie. Further up at the end of the Soi is a massage place called Annies, which may be the reincarnation of the Annies in Nana Plaza. Direct across from Annies is the Green Room, a small but decent blues and rock band club and bar. Alas, no P4 P are there under general circumstances.

Atlas Hotel, that was the name. The preferred ST hotel for the BG FL'ers. Short walk, front desk right inside the entrance, something like 300-350 per hour, no ID required. The rooms were on the 3rd or 4th floor, with the civilians staying on the floors above (at least I never saw a civilian on the ST floor, just cleaning ladies tidying up the rooms). Rooms were not all that bad for a ST hotel, but they didn't have the sex furniture that the PB Hotel had.

Annies on Soi 7/1 is where the NAME of the old soapie moved to, but from what I've heard, the name is all that moved.

Well, the weather has certainly improved. Cooler (relatively) and definitely less humidity, with a nice breeze most of the day. Last week, couldn't walk 5 blocks before my shirt was soaked with sweat. Entering any A/C, even the Sky Train, and I was freezing. Yesterday, out and about, walking a full hour, running errands, and shirt dry enough I could sit in Took Lae Dee's A/C without freezing. Sakura Akasuri (salt tapping) yesterday afternoon didn't seem all that busy unlike my previous visit. Nice weather and scrubbed clean...

In Japan (and I assume Korea) they sell shirt button and belt cameras. There are shops that specialize in these items in Akihabara and Ikebukuro. You can buy cheap ones for 200-300 USD but if you want really high quality ones (ie 4k or 8k) you're looking at 1000++ USD(?). GoPro has the new mini 11 camera but they're still significantly larger than the other possibilities I mention. GoPro's also have very poor aperture meaning they completely suck in low light. DJI Mini Action 4 could be what he's using. They are the cameras made for drones. Just checked DJI site and they're 759 USD.

From the movement when he's walking I'm guessing this is a belt camera or a mini camera attached to his belt or a front pocket. A mini DJI would still be noticeable if you were looking at the guy's crotch but would be undetectable if you are just walking around. I'm sure he's camouflaged the cam. A belt camera would be undetectable because they look like an ugly belt buckle.

I agree Banana Boi, I think it's definitely some kind of set up that's around the waist or chest. And that's true, even the latest gopro isn't going to cut it with night footage. What you mentioned with the DJI might be what it takes, but watching some of this videos, I suspect it's also a cellphone. When it really needs to be hidden, like when he's shooting in soapies or walking right up to the chicks or especially when he does his Thaniya rounds, I bet it's a souped up action camera hidden somewhere, but other times when he's walking around and chicks are clearly making eye contact with him, he's got to be using his phone, probably the latest iphone or a souped up samsung. Yeah, he's definitely hiding the camera well, my theory is a hole in a fanny pack around his waist, and if the lens is small enough, then almost no one will notice, especially at night in crowded areas like this. I got to learn this stuff if I'm going to be as awesome as this guy. In this sad, sad age of social media with camera phones everywhere, non-stop selfies, cctv's at every corner of every city in the world, we're all on camera all the time. At this point by now, every one of us is in somebody's photo and footage, we just have to accept it and join in the fun. We all know why we're in Bangkok anyway. Well, short time is 2 hours and you bet I'll keep them busy for 120 minutes straight. While several of you are waxing nostalgic about Annie's, BG, and Soi 22 et. Al. From the golden years, I, only at the tender age of 66, started coming to Bangkok in 2015. One of my favorite haunts, although much maligned on these pages, was Bangkok Beat on Soi 7/1. It was a raucous rock and roll club and bar with sometimes decent Filipino and Thai rock bands and a bevy of slightly over the hill dames who were more than happy to accompany you for a long time night of horizontal fun for a reasonable price and no bar fine. Sometimes, just a beer or two, a quick negotiation, and it was on.

Bangkok Beat was owned by a French guy, now passed on, who got into some sort of financial difficulty and sold the establishment around 2018. It is the current location of a hotel and located directly across from the Atlas Hotel, a reputed short time place on this Soi.
