-How can one get from Suvarnahumi (BKK) and Don Mueng (DMK) to lower Sukhumvit, Soi 23 and higher, by taxi?

-Is the Airport Link an option for BKK, getting off somewhere near Sukhumvit 71 or Ekkamai (I don't know what the stations are called) and taking a taxi from there?

The best thing you can do is take a taxi from Dong Muang to the Mo Chit BTS Skytrain station and then take the BTS, direction Bearing (all trains from Mo Chit go to Bearing). You will avoid all the heavy traffic and blockades. For Sukhumvit Soi 23 ("Soi cowboy") you need to get off at BTS station Asoke. Soi 23 is within easy walking distance. You can cross the Asoke intersection by using the upper walkways almost until the end, then turn left and follow the small walkway to the right of the stairs into the "Citibank" building. Inside go right, take an elevator to the ground floor and use the Soi 23 exit. That way you will probably be able to circumvent the people blocking the Asoke intersection.

Alternatively from Mo Chit you can also take the underground (MRT) direction Hua Lamphong to Sukhumvit station and then look for exit 2. Upon getting out of the station, turn right and then right again (this is the infamous Soi Cowboy). Go through Soi Cowboy and you are in Soi 23.

From Suvarnabhumi, take the Airport Link train to Phaya Thai http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phaya_Thai_Station and then change for the Skytrain (BTS) , Sukhumvit Line, direction Bearing. For Sukhumvit Soi 71 you need Phra Khanong Station. For Ekkamai, the BTS station is called "Ekkamai". For Sukhumvit 23, see above.
