I don't understand what all the fuss about Thermae is about. It's a very strange place. A not very large room with some women linked up around the perimeter, and others around the bar in the middle. They are all just standing there, mostly motionless. Between them walk the men, around and around in circles trying to find somebody interesting and interested. In my case that was not possible. I found most of the women unattractive, and the few that were attractive seemed utterly disinterested in me. Maybe they are more interested in Asian customers, IDK.

And on prices I agree, Bangkok is really not a cheap destination any more. As somebody pointed out below, price-wise Bangkok doesn't have much advantage over Singapore anymore. Perhaps it is fairer, perhaps it is the future. Like the many bars where the bare fine is around 1000 baht and the girl wants around 3000 baht. That seems reasonable to me, though it certainly doesn't make for cheap mongering.

Agreed that BKK has become relatively expensive, especially for the visitor. People who live there or very regular visitors can build a stable of girls and probably get it for less. I will guess that despite the high prices, people still like BKK because of the infrastructure, and because of the still relatively wide array of options, despite the high prices as opposed to many other places. I'll take a crack at the "Thermae" deal question. IMO it's because of the old reputation of the place, and the simple fact that it's one of the very few places in BKK where you can still get the so called "freelancer" and many guys simply like that (let's be honest amongst ourselves) . "illusion"of talking a girl up at the bar, and taking her home as if she weren't a regular prostitute. LOL I may be guilty of that myself. But I have found non regular Thermae girls at Thermae several times with much success ensuing back in my hotel.

But ultimately, as I've said. I usually leave alone from there 90% of the time. (I also happen to agree with you about finding many of them not particularly attractive)

I'll take that risk, thank you. I think you would fail Logic 101. Yes, she has more right to be at any locale in her own country / land than you do. (though I am not a particularly fervent nationalist).

The 500 baht is to simply get out of the situation as smoothly as possible while saving everyone involved at least some measure of face (you may want to read up on that concept in Asian cultures.) Regardless, I don't have time to play the ""blame" game. The YMMV truism is particularly true in case of so called "freelancers" as opposed to a massage joint or even a go go where the girl has a nominal "boss".

You have no "rights" as a "paying customer" in the case of a complete dud when it's a Thermae girl or a girl you meet on the street, or in a nightclub.
It's a risk one takes, which is why the thinking monger usually tries to "feel the girl out" by talking to her a little bit.. instead of walking in, pointing, clicking and leaving.

Agree! This place is a waste of time and money. It's only advantage is that they are all in one place. Walking down Soi 4 gives you far more to choose from. You can get LT for what thermae is charging for ST. I really think in BKK for picking up freelancers, that Soi 4 is the best option. Well, I probably would have given her much less, perhaps 500 Baht if I was feeling generous, a couple of hundred if I was not.
