Arrived in BKK late yesterday and went out at 3:00AM on a Saturday night. After checking the forum I was expecting to find some action at Climax, Space or Bossy so I took a taxi and we went to all 3 places. Unfortunately all of them were closed, the driver explained that the police is strictly controlling… Ended up chatting with another guy at the little bar in front of Climax and went to bed… Tomorrow is another day.

I have been looking at different places on line and I think I know all the places to go but am getting confused as to how far apart they are. Is Livenstones Lodge walking distance from some of the action? Is it close to NANA or SOI cowboy? Maybe someone can straighten me out. I'm thinking I'm going to have to taxi to both places. But maybe not. Also. If that is the case. Is there any action to be had within walking distance from the LL?

George, Myself, I like to stay in between the 2 most interesting areas (to me at least): Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza. The place I like is on Soi 19 (send me PM for details) but there's TONS of places in all price ranges in that stretch. The places near LL are mainly the "artist bars" -- more of a lounge environment with hostess girls there to meet. Pricier than SC and NP, and no go-go stage. That said, a taxi costs very little to take you all the way to Soi 4 (NP) and SC is a quick stroll from LL. I haven't stayed at LL myself. But to me it feels just a bit too far from what I consider 'the action' to be. But that's me. I tend to think that for short-time visitors like me (which I guess you are too), that its SC and NP that are more what you're after. The artist bars seem to be more appealing to ex-pats who've tired of the go-go scene.

By the way, I hope your name isnt' really George Sims. I know it's forum policy not to allow naming any members on the board, but does it violate forum rules if a member outs himself?

I have done plenty of reading of the forum but no posting until now. Not a complete newbie but this is my first visit to Bangkok for over two years so having read the reports decided to stay at LL and am delighted that I did.

Fantastic welcome on arrival and everyone very friendly. Hooked up with lovely lady from the Sports Bar on night one; great GFE all round. Absolutely no hassle or harrassment there which is important for me as I find it quite offputting!

Also have visited Geisha Massage club, very close to LL. Great line up of girls so found it difficult to decide but settled on Emmy for a gel massage on mattress. great! well i am 27 years old and not the turtle type. just a young enthusiastic person that can not wait to get there!

george, ll has a bar 15 steps from your room, with 20 girls who are dying to jump in the double jacuzzi with you. outside of ll, within spitting distance are over a dozen bars.

unless you walk like a turtle, soi cowboy is under 10 minutes. taxis are everywhere, and so are motorbike taxis.

if you have never been to bkk, you will gain more insight into the nightlife, staying at ll, than anywhere else.

of course, you could stay at the nana hotel, and hang out with a bunch of 80 yo dudes sitting in the lounge in their [CodeWord131] on backwards. who knows, maybe that is more your speed?

20 mins. to walk to Soi Nana, 10 mins. to walk to Soi Cowboy.

Within a minute you reach several bars here at Soi 33.

If you arrive late there you either go to Renoir (usually good late night action, but the girls are not really my type) or Mojo's. Mojo's is a partner bar from the Office Bar, same owner [group]. But - Mojo's has a only a limited quantity of girls working there, usually Coyote dancers. But later in the night the Office Bar girls move over there.

Still to be avoided: Christies and Napoleon! Though there might be some late night action these bars are not recommended because you will suddenly find some drinks on your bill which you did not order ...

You can afford these taxi trips (say about 40 or 50 baht) .. walking is fine for the exercise and the scenery, but you won't even save enough to afford an extra beer.
