They are not that far apart. Do a couple of days in Bangkok and then head to Pattaya for a couple of days and see which one you like best. As far as dating in Thailand, it's difficult to pull good looking girls for dating these days, I'd say most guys would attest to that. That's a bit too informal for me. Columbia Taimiami II long sleeves (keep the sun off you), convertible pants (I like Bean, REI and Marmot) and Keen closed toe sandals with socks.
