No it's not realistic in Bangkok, unless you are young, very handsome, polite, and speak the language quite well. Civilian Thai women are not too keen on middle-aged and old mongers hitting on them when they are trying to shop. It also reflects badly on us foreigners. 20 plus years ago this would have been more acceptable, but now it's definitely not. Confine your mongering activities to those who you are sure are on the game.

Agree, it's not an option unless you fit that description. Thailand, and Bangkok in particular, is an upper middle income country and the economic advances, though still vastly uneven, have really take off in the last 15 years here. A young attractive Thai woman or even a Thai MILF would repel advances if out shopping. You might find them on Thai dating sites. But the whole mongering scene has changed over these years. The bar girls are fatter than ever, more covered in tats than ever, and asking more money than ever for poor service. Nana is full of LBs, Patpong shut down years ago, and Soi Cowboy is only mildly interesting. It's why other posters are noting the change in the bar and oily / soapy massage scene in the better establishments (I. E. Asian men now the preferred customer). One good thing for the Westerner men who live here in that intervening period, is that mixed marriages don't even get a second look anymore. No one assumes your Thai wife is / was a bar girl. That's encouraging.

There used to be two places in BKK to get your balls and arse shaved (not waxed) : Barbers Friends on Sukhumvit soi 19 and at the barber shop inside Nana hotel (Sukhumvit soi 4).

Both these places closed a few years ago.

I was walking around Soi 4 last night and must say that I am frequently amazed that most of these African girls do any trade at all. Not to hijack a thread, but the mention of Maggie's brings back great memories and a bit of sadness of times past. I met two or three spectacular "Northern Sisters" (Mongolian) in Maggies one of which still has to be top 5 all time "rental friend" material. Spent the better part of 4 days with that lady. (Not 24/7 for 4 days / nights) She was tall and leggy with great curves. Go figure, I miss Asian blood. I'm neither tall nor large (even though I'm developing a dad bod). Still, I'm smaller and certainly shorter than most East European working ladies working in Europe. And sometimes even younger: DDD.
