I'm on my way back. Its going to be raining for the next two weeks. I use gore tex or an umbrella, or just say in my condo and call for take out if I need it.

May sound stupid but if you are going out to soak up the atmosphere (no pun intended) late at night to eye up the street freelancers etc, I strongly recommend go for an umbrella rather than rain jacket / hood. I talk from experience. I found during the heavy rains girls were a bit wary of me approaching them if I had a hood on. Contrary to what most of us thought was the case or hoped would be the case before we really got into the Thai P4 P scene, Thai prostitutes are not poor beggars so desperate for money they must do whatever a merciful paying customer wants and go with anyone willing to give them money.

I spend *way* too much time reading the traffic in online forums devoted to a variety of special interests. I'm old enough to remember Usenet newsgroups in the Nineties, and before that dial-up bulletin boards. It seems to me there are some universal rules that apply no matter what the forum or the topic under discussion.

The rule that applies here says that people who are new to the forum should respect the efforts of those who have taken the time to post useful information. At a minimum, that means doing your homework by reading a representative sample of old posts, which will usually provide a solid baseline of knowledge. If you make an effort and *still* have questions, netiquette dictates that you frame them specifically and ask them individually.

The classic example of what *not* to do: (A) Falsely claim to have "read the forum." (B) Ask for a tour d'horizon. "I've read all prior posts here regarding using a handgun for self defense, but I have some questions. What kind of gun should I buy? What's the best calibre? How does one carry concealed? Do the laws permit me to use the gun to protect myself? Can anybody recommend a dealer?"

You get the idea.

That said, I'll dispense a little advice here in the Bangkok forum. He should stay in a hotel near the BTS Skytrain Green Line, between stations E1 to E5. He should spend at least two nights checking out the go go bar scene on Soi Cowboy and at Nana Entertainment Plaza. He should take a look at the freelance girls who hang out in front of the Nana Hotel. He should check out the massage places on Soi 24. He should at least make a lap through Thermae some evening about 2100. I don't like to find girls online. But if he's so inclined, he should read the reports about ThaiFriendly and the escort services.

Old Bangkok Hands will know this barely scratches the surface. But it's a solid start for a guy on his first visit.
