They were probably Mercury Bar ladyboys. Mercury is a Ladyboy Bar right next to the Nana second floor Mandarin and seems to be mistaken for one of the Mandarin bars quite often. Not necessarily by people here, but by visitors I know who go up that escalator and look to the right at the top, see all the ladyboys standing around and automatically assume they are from Mandarin, which is the first sign they see on the way up. The doorways for the second floor Mandarin and Merbury bars are right next to each other.

I cannot say for now but I went their once maybe two years ago and I could clearly spot a few obvious ladyboys. The most disturbing was that they even had guys dressed as girls dancing on the stage. I mean they didn't even put the effort to look like a girl, they did just put girls clothes on. The place wasn't giving a good vibe also as the mamasan was constantly sending me some ugly girls to ask lady drinks.

Agreed! Their ruthlessness is as fucked up as their looks! Horrible business especially from mamasan, how do you expect to get repeat customers. (Ladyboy bar or not) if you let your employees play their customers like that?? This really changes my perspective on all of Thailand. I known Thailand to be benevolent and peaceful seeing how they respect their king and religion. Epic fail

Please don't be so quick on your conclusion. You're visiting one of the most low-life place of Thailand and want to compare their behaviour to the rest of Thailand? From my experience I would say that most of them are very nice even though they've got a lot of problems in their own life, but you've got to go in places that are not polluted by their low-lifes to experience it.

Once I had the same kind of misadventure as yours but it was in Patong in one of the bars upstairs and it didn't involve ladyboys but some ugly girls instead. It was one of their ping pong show, the show looked like shit and after 5 minutes I was at the desk and wanted to pay my beer and was presented a 1200 baht bill. I wanted to smash their heads, the mamasan, the cashier, their girls. But finally I paid and it served me a good lesson and I was really unhappy with myself for being caught in such a scam. Back then I wouldn't give any tip anywhere I go. But after that experience I realised that I was never supporting the good persons trying to make an honest life but instead I finished by giving a huge amount to some of their most shitty people. From that day I always tip the waiters in restaurant where I'm a regular, the girls in traditional massage places, some of the taxi guys that are friendly and since then my whole experience in Thailand is better.

What you described is about as rough a scam going on in a Thai go-go bar as anything I have heard since the upstairs Patpong bar shakedowns of old (still going on? I hadn't heard). I'm talking about the 1,000 baht note to 100 baht note switcheroo. And as I read it that was apparently pulled by one of the ladyboys, so it might not even have been fully witnessed by anyone else. So how could they back up either side? Of course, if this is a routine scam pulled by the same ladyboy over and over, then everyone in the bar would know what he did.

Now that you are on guard about any and all scams being pulled, I doubt you are ever going to fall for that kind of thing again, especially since you and I would guess anyone else reading your report will avoid DC10 unless they are armed with steely stubborn resolve not to buy more than one LD for one ladyboy at most and have nothing but small baht notes and coins in his pocket to settle the bill on the nose without need of change.

The biggest bar bill or outside the hotel room scam I am aware of going on in a few places is the "Tequila and coke" non-existent cocktail drink request from girls that is in fact a two LDs order all at once.

I honestly don't know how anybody could walk into a LB Go Go in LOS and not notice where they were or with whom they were interracting. I don't care how many Tequilas have been consumed earlier in the evening. 555. But, I got this list off the internet somewhere about a year ago. There are a couple of bars on it that have gone out of business, changed their names, or changed their orientation, but I think this list is still pretty accurate. Feel free to update the list.

Yea, I'm pretty pissed. Walked around 2nd floor at Nana Plaza, 3 ladies pull me in pretty aggressively. It's my second time in one of these bars so all I know is what I read on the forum. I thought sure, one drink with one girl. All 3 sit with me (and everything was happnening so fast I wasn't even 100% sure if they were ladyboys. Anyways, all 3 sit down and mamasan asks if I want to buy them all drinks, I told all 4 of them, I'll buy one drink only and the other 2 ladies were begging / pouting to sit with me also. How much could these drinks be right? The beer is 160 baht, I assumed the lady drinks would be the same. Drinks come, mamasan leaves and it's just us 4. After pretty aggressive persuading me to ST one of them and still not confident they weren't ladyboys, I wanted to pay the check and leave. I call the mamasan over for the check and the bill was 875 baht! F*ck it, lesson learned. I pulled out a 1000 bill and one of the girl snatches it away, I turned to the mamasan and gave her a look like there's the money. After about 5 second passes the girl pulls the bill back out and said I only gave a 100 bill. I thought oops, I must have pulled out the wrong bill, so I pulled out another 1000 bill and now they're all pestering me for tips, 100 baht each. I initially told them no, but they faces all got confrontational along with mamasan. Finally got out of there and I checked my wallet and then confirmed the first bill was 1000. Total cost for this Lesson. 2400 baht. It didn't help that the mamasan (a confirmed ladyboy) was saying I HAD to tip her too.

Towards the end though, I did confirm they were ladies (so they say) and the girls said the only ladyboys there were the 2 Mamasans. Avoid DC10!

Was not able to hit the scene before 11 PM last night. Few FLs on Sukhumvit road, no more than 50 at most. All hopeless. Only 3/4 ladies were of quality that I could sleep with them, with difficulty LOL. The scene was very disappointing around grace hotel, not even a pale shadow of itself. Around 12 things were dismal in front of nana plaza when it comes to quality. Went to massage shops on soi 24. SW was closed at 12 and so were most others on 24/1 except candy massage. Nothing caught my face there. Found one girl at last massage show in 24/1 but she was not interested in full service. Huh. Massage shops on soi 23 in Sukumvit were half open but again selection was hopeless. 2 girls seemed to be OK but wanted at least 1500-2000 on premises and 2500 in room.

This is far cry from what it used to be even 3/4 years ago. Looks like this trade is breathing its last breaths and will completely dry up in 10 years.

Why would you not go into Soi Cowboy or Nana Plaza? Or the beer bars on Soi 4? Massage places close at midnight and it's common sense the pickings will be slim at the end of the night. 1,500 -2,000 is too much for a massage on premises? That's been the going rate for years? Yeah, "no dick" means nothing with regard to proving someone is a ladyboy or not. There are many post-op (after getting their dicks surgically removed) ladyboys all over Thailand.
