In fact, an unemployment rate this small is a real problem. Business can't expand and it's very difficult to start new ones. There is no available labor pool from which to draw. So, I think you'll see labor costs continue to increase, perhaps significantly, over the next few years as businesses compete for available talent.

Many businesses in the tourist area just could not survive and shut down, Soi 33 of Sukhumvit has been dying. See how many customers they have in Mojos or The Office these days.

Tourism is 6% of the Thai economy. A drop in the bucket. This is an export based economy.

Anyone who really understands Thailand knows the overall economic situation is decaying, especially 2014. The protests, the coup, the drastic drop in tourism has dropped growth rates significantly and there is still talk of a recession.

We've got over 300 employees in our Thailand office and I can assure you none of them are happy campers this year. Retail sales are down, retail accounts are delaying payment of goods, supply chains also being stretch for credit. And the 'government' is basically broke.

But for ISG members, that's not bad news, right? LOL.

Correct. Even restaurants have had to increase salaries to attract employees. There are just not enough folks to work. That is why Thailand was so distressed when all the Cambodian and Burmese workers fled. Yes, the economy is quite fine.

You guys really make me laugh. The Cambodians, Burmese, Thai-Yai were being used because Thais that want to pay someone 120-150 Baht per day to work long hours serving food, washing the dishes etc., or labouring work, whatever. Thais will not take that sort of money. They cannot really live on that amount of money per day, even to feed just themselves with no one else to support. This happens in many countries, I see it a lot in Europe, where the low paid jobs are all taken by foreigners from very poor countries willing to be paid less than the locals.

So the aliens are moved out, of course these businesses are forced to pay higher. Otherwise no one will do it. Its not that everyone has adequate employment, its that they need more money to survive.

Thai Girls are working in the bars to make significantly more money than that. They have other family members to support in many cases, e. G. All the single mothers.

I notice many street food stands that used to be around here (Sukhumvit) are gone, coffee shops closed or empty. My favourite grilled chicken and Som Tam stand on Soi 19 is gone.

Tourism looks to be well down, due to the problems. Many bars are struggling for enough customers too.

I was with Aor several times in December. The Suzy Wong girl I was with was short, but unlike Aor, who had a layer of fat on her tummy, which may be visible in some of the photos I posted, if not it is visible in other photos I took, definitely had a firm and trim waist with no fat.
