When I asked him why the fuck he was being such a dipshit, he explained it to me. Here is (roughly) his explanation.

One of the beautiful things about LOS is that ladies abound. So one month he sent her $600. That was good, but mama and papa are still in hospital, so the next month he sent her $800, and told her that was the last upped payment she will get. Ok. 3 months pass by and she gets her regular $400, but then she herself got sick and needed to go to hospital. $800 out the window.

Eventually he returned and expected to be greeted like a returning hero. He got some pretty good boinking on the first night, he tells me, but then it went south quickly.
