Hey fellows,

So I'm pretty new to P4P (but been in Asia nearly a decade; I know, what a waste). A few months back in Thailand was my first time. I want to tell that story for newbies' edification and then ask questions to prepare my next trip.

So, a few months back I'm in BKK, being shown around by a friend who lives there. Now this friend pretends he never does P4P, and he never did in front of me, but somehow he knows the go-go bars, supposedly because he "takes friends there". Anyways.

So he explains to me (then a complete newbie) that girls in go-go bars can say yes or no to you. There is a selection process. You have to be nice to them, buy them drinks, talk, and then they decide if they like you and want to go with you or not. He tells me they have the upper hand since many clients want them, they have the choice

This strikes me as odd to say the least, but remember this is my friend, I trust him, and he lives in BKK. So I figure, he must know. So I try this way of "seducing the hooker and getting her approval". But I suck at it. I'm pretty good at getting freebies but I feel totally uninspired at pretending to have a normal conversation with a hooker who can't speak English, in a loud bar, with other costumers and girls watching, etc etc. I just don't see the point. And I hate to buy multiple drinks for the girls – I NEVER buy drinks to normal girls in bars, so why am I doing this for a SW?

So this leads to a lot of awkward, frustrating moments and aborted attempts, with the girl or me losing interest after a while. Whatever chemistry exists through body language and eye contact is killed each time by lame attempt at "where are you from" conversations. Obviously I'm also not in my comfort zone since this is all new to me.

Believe it or not, this lasts for 2 NIGHTS, with me (a late twenties, fit, not bad looking dude who is not bad with women in real life) NOT BEING ABLE TO SCORE IN BKK GO-GO BARS. In hindsight, hilarious.

In the middle of the third night, I get really annoyed. I think, "OK this is ridiculous. This isn't supposed to be that hard". I finally ditch my friend and go back, alone, to a bar (one of the Rainbows at Nana upstairs) where I had friended a waitress.

I sit down, waive her, and tell her, picking the cutest girl in the line up without even bothering to make eye contact, "I want number 29. No drinks, no talk, no bullshit. I don't have time right now. Just tell her to get ready and we go. "

In retrospect I was probably too aggressive/edgy (a no-no in Thailand) but I was annoyed at that point. Anyway, no problem. The waitress nods that she understands. The girl comes down the line up, gets ready backstage, comes to pick me up at my table 5 mins later, and off we go.

I don't even think I bought a drink while I was waiting.

So the lesson here for complete newbies, is that doing it short and quick is possible. I adopted the same technique the following few nights. Sit, get ONE drink for myself, pick a girl, and bar fine her immediately. Almost no conversation in the venue.

I'm not saying this is the best way, but it worked for me last time.

I don't care for anal or any particularly perverse activity, so of course that's a caveat. I don't need to agree on anything special beforehand.

All my lays were ST as I was sleeping at a friend's place. I used the Nana ST hotel at 300 baths a session (I had no clue where it was, the girls take you there though, just pretend you've been there 1, 000 times before, it worked for me).

OK. Now I spent a long time RTFFing, as I'm back to BKK in a week and preparing Questions for experienced members:

1. Is actually talking to the girls and buying them a few drinks in the venue advisable? I saw a few members I respect [Barko among them – dude, I've read all your posts, I'm a fan ] saying that was a good idea; but they didn't explain why. Is this about good will? Agreeing on anal? Getting them drunk? Having a good time? Doing a chemistry check?

2. I've also seen some say that you can book a girl ST and if you are fun and your hotel is nice etc then she'll end up staying LT. Is that advisable/doable? How much do you pay the girl then, end of night? ST+tip? Or LT rate?

3. What if you want the girl to stay with you during the day time (instead of leaving in the morning)? Is this advisable? Any suggestions on rates? (I'm talking Nana go-go girls).

4. I've seen suggested to tip the mamasan/papasan and/or waitress to buy goodwill. I believe this is mostly for MPs. Does it apply to go-gos as well? And how do you tip? Openly or discreetly (palm of the hand thing)?

if you arrive very late at night and/or have lots of luggage, a taxi would be much quicker (less traffic congestion) and convenient. if you have very little luggage and you arrive during the daytime, the airport to city line is a good cheap option. if you're staying in the nana area, the airport to playa thai then connect with bts seems to be the best route.

here's a recent "reader's" comment about the airport to city line that was posted on the bangkok post. according to the writer, it's easier to use if you're going to the airport and less convenient for arrivals.

i took the city line last friday and found it to be cheap (30-odd baht skytrain + 15 baht city line) and relatively timely (30 minutes from saphan taksin to phya thai and another 40 minutes to the airport). given that i left in the middle of an almighty storm, a taxi could have taken over an hour at 350 baht+, and so it was the weather that swayed my decision.

as said already, the city line trains are not built for luggage and i'd be interested to hear if the express trains do indeed have different set up with more luggage space. i also had only one light case, so did not experience the trolley issue, but that is certainly of concern for future trips when i could well be carrying a larger full case + additional laptop bag.

the only pain for me was on arrival at the airport, where there are only a few elevators connecting the floors. so on the lower floor where the train arrives the elevators quickly filled up, leaving a large group jostling in front of the doors to be sure of a place on the next trip. so i took the escalators... great idea. these long escalators slowly take you to the next floor, where you then have to double-back on yourself to the start of the next escalator and so on up 4 floors. of course, this is thailand and people stand all over the escalators (keep to the right!!!) or have a trolley, making it impossible to speed this up. this tactic of slowing your exit down works ok in paragon, but is frustrating in an airport - so if you are in a hurry, also factor an additional 5 minutes to get from the lower floor to departures!!

on arriving back in bangkok, now with wife and more baggage, the thought of going on the train, then bts and then taxi v just getting in a taxi was too much. sad, but i don't think i'll ever use it on arrival.
